I'm talking about 900p. It's a huge joke for a 'next-gen' console. 900p in 2020 is very bad. Doesn't seem Series S is next-gen after all.

Biggest joke is not taking into account the price point. Graphics is not everything and it offers the almost same experience for more budget constraint people. It provides a much more compelling and value for parents to buy it for younger kids with game pass.

In your opinion then Nintendo is trash dice their graphic is really bad?

Options are good for consumers, even if the S doesn’t suit your use case. I’m also fine without 4K, I play on 1080p on my 4K TV with my PS4 Pro.

Also you can feel that Microsoft has moved away from the traditional console-selling model but promoting vigorously on their subscription based Game Pass, compared to Sony's. There are more bothered with people subscribing to their Game Pass than the number of consoles they sell.

Seriously, Xbox Series X will not appeal to gamers with good gaming PCs since their PCs can subscribe to Game Pass and perform better than the Xbox Series X. But for those without a gaming PC, it is damn worth it to buy their Xbox Series X at this price point for 4K gaming and access all the games in their Game Pass.

Agree with you that Microsoft is targeting this specific niche in the gaming market. I'm not a developer and have no horse in the race, but I do find it interesting what sort of market numbers we're talking about.

Essentially, this 'new' target audience is the gamer who:

- is 'casual' because he does not have a good gaming PC or PS4 / PS5, but still wants to play non-mobile 'full' games

- is willing to pay a monthly subscription (plus upfront hardware costs)

- is not very picky about the choice of games (since you just have to consume whatever is given to you in Game Pass)

I'm not sure how big this segment of the market is. I see the new generation of gamers, they have embraced mobile gaming. The children of my colleagues are gaming more on their phones / iPads, and maybe Switch, and I have not heard of any of them asking for PS5 / Xbox Series X.

points 2 and 3 are why i am buying an xbox rather than a ps
i have a ps4 and i only play launch day games or ps3 remakes because games are too expensive
buying fifa 21 now is $80 but in 2024 it'll be only $15 but the game is exactly the same if you've never touched fifa 22, 23 or 24 it will be brand new to you

plus pes 20 is on game pass so i might not even have to wait 3 years just to play the game at a reasonable price

over the past 2 years since i've gotten my ps4, i've only really played 2 or 3 games but over the past 1 month that i've gotten game pass, i've already tried over 5 games

i tried darksiders 3 for 30 mins and gave up because i didn't like it
on a ps4 this would have cost me at least $10 to resell the game 2nd hand

I was impressed with Game Pass when I tried it out for the $1/month trial period.

As you said, was able to quickly sample a few titles to see if I liked them (think I tried Metro Exodus, Outer Worlds and Yakuza). Didn't feel stressed about completing them to get my money's worth, and also easy to drop them when I realized I didn't have time / energy for them.

But I'm very clear now about my ability to game :s13::s13: With work and other commitments, no way I'm going to clear all the good titles in Game Pass. Probably will just sub for the months where there is something I want to try, then just unsub and go back to the other games I've bought.

IMO Gamepass is only great if there's games available that you like to play. I cancelled my Series X preorder since launch games there are almost non existent to my liking.

Maybe 2021 or 2022 it'll have big hitters 1st party. I will just waste 1 year of sub if I get it at launch lol

So far the game pass has been excellent with me focusing on Forza 7..I am still considering to offload my series X or/and ps5 but because I need a Blu-ray player I will have to keep one at least...

An interesting point to make is that a SIM steering wheel which only works for pc and PS4/5 now works if you are on game pass if you are using pc.. sounds like best of 3 world.

Sega confirmed that in 60fps mode, Yakuza runs at 900p on Xbox Series S & 1440p on Xbox Series X.

A 'next-gen' console running at 900p is a joke & an absolute embarrassment. This isn't old hardware from 2013 like PS4/Xbox One. But a new 2020 next-gen console running at 900p?

https://twistedvoxel.com/yakuza-like-a-dragon-xbox-series-s-x/

Even series X can only do 1440/60, and its not even 60fps locked.

This is why I've been saying dun buy the marketing BS from Sony/MS, these next gen consoles are not 4k/60 machines, they are more like 1440/60 machines. 4k/60 with RT on these machines = pipe dream.

Few years down the road, these next gen console can only run 8K @ 60hz while GPU wise will be ahead liao..

to me the most significant changes in this gen is the SSD loading (i hated Disc loading times) and online games which can run at very decent settings.

i think it is too early to say, it will take time for developers to fully understand the architecture underneath rna2. some say the ps3 when fully utilized is able to keep up with ps4

it might just be possible that with the best usage of the hardware available, games can really do 4k60

Cause of the lack of new info from Sony side, anything Microsoft shows now is just a console war, between Sony fans and Microsoft fans lol. :s22:

Don't know why people care so much about arguing over which console is better, when competition is good and they can just buy whichever they want.

Oh that is if you managed to preorder, I missed it so probably will wait till early next year then buy.

as long as the postings remain friendly and rationale, dont think it hurts to mix in a bit of xbox news into the mix , for now at least..

Yeah, I think it's good as in to know about what is good from both sides so that both can improve, neither is perfect anyway. I am indifferent to both brands as I don't really care, as long as it fits my use case.

Currently I'm based in Jakarta, where the launch date is not even announced here by Sony yet. :s22: Probably still going through the permit to import.

TLOU was released at the tail end of PS3's lifespan, its first party and arguably developed by Sony's top studio naughty dog, still that title performed very poorly on the PS3, the PS4 remastered version was 60fps (almost locked) and it looked far better, dun say keep up, its not even close...

Some less demanding games will be able to do 4k/60 locked with lower settings for sure, but 4k/60 with RT/high settings is just impossible, no amount of optimisation is going to change that. TBH I dun see the point in going for 4k with low details and no RT, its going to look worse than 1440p at higher settings, heck even 1080p with RT might look better than 4k with no RT at low settings.

Actually it does seem Xbox ish gaining some popularity, also noted in reddit forums that the responses on Xbox seem more positive than PS one. Even in youtube also tend to see more PS5\Sony blasting than Xbox Series X\Microsoft. Just too bad that the games line-up they announced for xbox series X seem weaker than PS5, even the supposed flagship game Halo also seem disappointing to the fansee.

Tiagong in Jipan there also seem to be a growing number of unhappy noise with Sony as many ish kpkb about them trying to enforce western SJW censorship even on Jipan soil. As both Sony US and Sony Jipan seem to say they will adopt the same 'family-friendly' policies they adopted on PS4 for PS5 too. Tiagong many small studios in Jipan already announce they will drop PS5 and only release their games on PC and Xbox platform because of this as their anime based games are usually the one targeted by the censorship.

Though these blasting won't represent the actual sale figures in the end but at the moment it does seem Microsoft ish scoring better in public relations. :(

Anyhow, think PS5 will still sell a lot better in Asia, but AMDK area maybe Xbox got chance to outsold PS this time.

Might be tough to outsell in AMDK since I think only UK and USA (esp USA) are battlegrounds. PS dominates in mainland Europe. However that being said, I agree that this time round Xbox will narrow the gap (even if narrow only by a bit).

So far, Microsoft seems to release a lot of info & games + preview in hands of some you tubers. They may be playing catch up but they've done a good job. Plus the buying of the studio would definitely help it. All in all, a good win for consumers:s12::s12: Especially as this may have Sony digging in to produce more quality exclusives

Not happening. Actually it's a mistake to upgrade to an xbox series S|X if you currently own an Xbox One S|X. There are no new next gen games coming for the next 2+ years. MS bought a lot of studios, but too late to have anything until 2022-2023. Halo was the big hope launch wise, and damn it looked terrible.

There is a reason MS is going strong on advertising backwards compatibility. They have nothing else. Even then, Sony has more games from the PS4 compatible with PS5 than Microsoft have with the Series S|X.

I think the gap will actually widen this gen.

Its certainly looking that way. The gap will either be similar as current gen or widen even more. Not narrow or close.

One major factor that will contribute to the low global sales for Xbox is the fact that it doesn't have any exclusive games. Zero system sellers that can move hardware. Every upcoming MS first-party titles is multiplatform, also releasing on PC on the same day & date. This will affect & result in less overall sales for Xbox, as some PC gamers may skip out on buying an Xbox.

Though as everyone know by now, MS supposedly doesn't care much about hardware sales numbers anymore (since they're getting trounced by Sony & Nintendo). Their focus is only getting people into their ecosystem. Xbox, PC, Game Pass Subscription.

The only time MS care about sales numbers is during the Xbox 360 days, when they had a 1-year advantage & sizable lead over PS3 in the beginning of the generation.

Shouting from the rooftops & taking a dig at Sony at every turn, especially Aaron Greenberg during the monthly NPD. Don Mattrick also claim that 'the first company to reach 10 million in console sales, wins the generation'. That's obviously nonsense, as Xbox 360 end up in 3rd place behind Wii & PS3.

If they are in 2nd/3rd place, sales numbers suddenly doesn't mean much. Seems like it only matters when they are leading.
