Also depends on the distance between your sofa and the tv, if the distance is 2m or below, 55” can do I think

Forget about what distance lah.
TV will become 'smaller' the longer you look at it
General rule of thumb imo just hoot the largest TV available within your budget :s13:

Just curious why is it too small since most hdb are also not very big unless one is staying in a much bigger home, otherwise I thought 55 inch is more than enough.

Why do cinemas have big screens? Because its definitely more enjoyable watching on big screens than on small screens. Imagine u go to a cinema and u see a small screen. sibeh sian one ahhaa.

Most hdb living room nowadays the viewing distance is about 2.4m, 55 inch already small for that distance esp if u viewing 4k content. read somewhere a full HD at 55inch vs a 4k content at 55inch 2.4m..not much of a diff. so to fully appreciate 4k content at 2.4m or beyond, 65 inch is better.

Just like 8k content on anything smaller than 86 inch is a waste of money.

I stay in a 5 room hdb where my living room width is much bigger, however i glass partition the living area into an office study room, thus my sofa to the tv aka viewing distance is about 2.5 to 2.6m. I still think my 65 inch is small esp if want to have that cinema effect. Wanted an OLED so the 65 inch is reasonably price. The next higher OLED size is 77 inch and Singapore prices that in a crazy way...like almost 12 to 14k for a 77 inch compared to 3.9k for a 65 inch LGCX. So i dont wanna pay obscene prices for a tv so i settled for a 65 inch CX.

There are cheaper alternatives for a 77 / 86 inch LCD LED TVs out there that are reasonably price at 3k plus...but since i wanted a new tv, i didnt wanna remain using the same LCD technology and wanted to try out OLED.

Apart from the next gen hdmi 2.1 features and VRR, the colors really much nicer. Even watching the tv from the side has the same color vibrancy since the pixel emits its own light source. Watching a LCD tv from the side, the color shift is so obvious.

Not sure if this has been shared here before. I find it quite informative but then it was posted on 8 Oct 2020, hope it is still relevant.

I've covered about him before. He's just a loudspeaker who doesn't even know about TV technology; letalone HDMI 2.1. It's basically like putting a total stranger on YouTube and then suddenly, people starts believing him.

If you read my post on VRR, you will notice I mention frame doubling or what is called as LFC (Low Framerate Compensation). This is done on the GPU side. Meaning your console or PC will double the framerate in order to fit into your TV's VRR range.

For example, the LG has a VRR range of 40Hz to 120Hz.

Thus, the minimum fps you need in your game is actually 20fps. So at 20fps that the game is outputting, the GPU will double the frame and make it 40fps. This makes it fall in line with the VRR range of the LG TV. Therefore, you will get to experience VRR especially with a 30fps game like the PS5.

If you want a good source, learn it from someone who actually knows much about TVs like HDTVTest. See here to understand more. Basically with a HDMI 2.1 TV like the LG C9 and LG CX, you will benefit from LFC for VRR.

Its kinda odd that this thread has now kinda change its chatter to TV. But I too am considering also, so I'll chime in :)

However, my consideration points are
1. For gaming (1st) since its in my study room
2. Occasional Netflix/Apple TV

Thus, must haves
- Size: 55' 4K
- HDMI 2.1
- Variable Refresh Rate
- eARC
- 4k/120hz
- Around budget $1k (not gonna spend on OLED as I assume true blacks are good mainly for movies)

Kinda narrowed down to 2 choices on Carousell really
1. TCL QLED 55R635 ($950)
- 1 year warranty by parallel importer
- ROKU OS, not sure if it works in SG despite ROKU having one of the best OS with all apps

2. Samsung QLED 55Q70T ($1,200)
- 3 years warranty
- Tizen OS, with all apps supported

Will prob wait for the Samsung QLED Q70T to drop price further then go in for it.

Thanks for sharing that is good info, but where to possibly to get that TCL TV?

Wanted to use it for Monitor(PC) and console gaming, is there any good recommendations? So far I’ve seen folks here suggest TVs will be better choice. If Tv as monitor will be real big and the siting distance is very near to it.

Both models (& prices) are from parallel importers on Carousell. Go search.

I think TV is better choice compared to monitors, due to their built in OS (apps).

https://www.theverge.com/21718936/xbox-series-x-ps5-performance-game-comparison

Interesting article to read why PS5 is leading console performance even with the lower teraflops spec compare to series X.

TLDR; Xbox games was not really optimise and developer tool kit is not developer friendly, and also release later than PS5.

I was watching the digital foundry YouTube videos and thought how possible PS5 can catch up to series X even with lower spec performance.

hoping PS5 release more firmware and bug fix ASAP to tackle the issue.

Yup, it is always not about the raw horsepower but instead, game optimization play a more impt part. Also higher clocked gpu/cpu does usually deliver more performance since most of the games does not efficiently utilize all of the multi core/thread computing power available.

Btw,Sony already released 2 system firmware updates for PS5 since launch to address the known issues, i believe they are working hard now to iron out all bugs as we speak.

I think ultimately, its your own preference that is most important, as well as the games you play. I for one will never use a greater than 27" monitor after trying my hands on the Predator X34 a few years back. Finding games which can support 21:9 is a pain as 16:9 is still the most common aspect ratio. Also, imagine the field of view you will have being so close to the screen. It's a pain when playing most FPS or MOBA games since you cannot see the entire screen + the amount of time you need to swing your cursor to. On top of it, gaming monitors have lower input lags compared to TVs.

If you are primarily using the monitor for productivity + only story games, you may still get by with using a TV as monitor. If not, i will greatly advise against this option.

Don't get your hopes up for the CX48 here in SG lol. They would have already released it here if they're willing. Next year CX11 already if they bring CX48 here
