Yeah maybe I bought PS5 too soon and need not have, though Spider-Man and Tsushima are great on PS5. Bought it off a carouseller for $712 disc version.

I ordered a PNY XLR8 CS3040 1TB w/o heatsink version for $192 from Amazon.sg(sold by Amazon US) on 24 Aug, arrived yesterday.

There another one by amazon sg, but cost more.

Elden Ring Preview - IGN

- Lost Graces (bonfire-esque save points) with light leading to your next objective
- Spirit Steed (horseback with verticality to jump across cliffs at designated platforms)
- Stealth gameplay (aiding gear like sleeping arrows to KO foe)
- Upgradable Map via Map Fragments (can add markers for treasures, mini-bosses, NPCs etc, set destinations)
- Multiple routes (barge in and fight or stealth through back door with dangerous traps maybe) at Stormveil Castle (Complex and multi-layered Legacy Dungeon)
- Various Dungeons with enemies, traps, treasures, illusory walls (souls homage)
- Multi-armed Boss with brutal attacks and can counterattack

Personally, I feel stealth gameplay may make the game much easier but I would like to see how FromSoftware will layer it with the traps etc, hopefully making it as difficult as just barging in to fight or any other route. It definitely sounds like there's more exploration, customisation, freedom and approaches to gameplay. Anyone else excited about Elden Ring?

When you get tech information from influencers rather than the experts.
There's no conclusions to be drawn from what's done.
Just ill-informed, misleading opinions.
In term of the topic of heat dissipation, efficiency is primary.
There is no reduction in SOC node process, so it's unlikely the chip is running more efficiently, so a decrease in mass and surface area of heatsink will for sure reduce cooling efficiency. Even the base plate seems to be a drop from full copper to a mixture.

Definitely a cost saving decision, but probably they did it knowing after tests that it won't affect the performance and probably longevity as GPUs can run fairly hot anyway.

But end of the day, probably not an issue, sure within the safe range of operating temps before they dare to change it.

It's probably more of the scenario the early batch was a bit "over-engineered" in terms of cooling because they wanted to be sure it's all ok and durable enough, but after more tests over time, it was reduced to a less expensive set up that can still perform within specs.

This review is better, makes more sense though I owned the initial release of the PS5 model.

This guy dissing the guy who compared is rubbish also.

Talk talk for 8 mins and didn't even do any actual comparisons and tests between the old and new one.

agree that efficiency is primary, but it's quite clear from the video that the temperature output is higher, which directly relates to the processors operating at a higher temperature.

a sample size of one unit is definitely far from conclusive and Sony probably did enough research to conclude that the system is safe to operate with the marginally higher temperature but if you ask me, I'd definitely rather get a bigger heatsink with copper components

Initial design was probably over spec slightly on the heatsink to prevent unexpected failure due to heat, now they probably confident enough that the slight raise in temps will be fine so faster cut costs to a cheaper but still "effective" solution.

But apparently the SOC is not much of a concern, because the temps are pretty ok from the start, I think they were saying the memory and SSD run way hotter, so hopefully there's improvements on that end.

XBOX Series X SOC I think runs slightly hotter than PS5s and it's still fine too.

Anyway, Sony's been known to be quite aggressive in costs cutting. Most first revision built better, especially for PS3.

The damage is kinda done anyway. Got a friend who is a massive Nintendo fanboy (he hates Sony) and he was bashing Playstation non stop regarding this in my group chat. He also keeps saying that PS5 is RDNA 1 and 9.2 Teraflops. And that only very few games will make use of the Dual Sense adaptive trigger and haptic feedback. lol.

I went to gaming forums like Resetera and Neogaf yesterday and the fanboys there are taking this fake news as gospel even though there were people debunking it.

Bottom line is fanboys want to take bad news about their opposing consoles and run with it. But when the truth comes out that the bad news is fake, they go hiding in their holes again.

I still can't believe that there are still fanboys above the age of 40, especially those who bash consoles that they are not fanboy of. It's hilarious.

Just play games and enjoy.
