You can only utilitize the 5Gbps bandwidth with wired devices basically if you get the SingTel 5Gbps plan with the lousy SingTel WiFi 6 device.

If you are only using wireless, then the lousy SingTel WiFi 6 device (with 1Gbps WAN port) will limit your 5Gbps Internet to 1Gbps, not 2.5Gbps. Even if you upgrade to HB611-SGST (with 2.5Gbps WAN), you will be limited to 2.5Gbps.

On the other hand, you can get HB710 (with 10Gbps WAN port) from outside (S$192 from Starhub, similar price from Carousell) to have the ability to fully utilize the 5Gbps bandwidth.

If you have a choice, look at other ISPs which offer better value 3Gbps or 5Gbps plan.
Thanks.

I'll prefer to stick with singtel since they can probably troubleshoot if anything happens (don't need me to head down to parent's place)

Maybe can even consider the 10gbps entertainment bundle with singtel tv sports group as well as the TPlink HB810 router provided for S$66.44. If not maybe just sign the 3gbps with HB611 and get limited at 2.5gbps

3gbps is XGSPON, 1gbps is GPON. different standards.
However having said that, VQ was able to upgrade me from 1gbps to 3gbps without activating another TP port.

I believe the new XGSPON has subsidies from gov

From M1 thread -- new M1 10Gbps plan with all-in-one ONR (including WiFi 6).

Personally I will not recommend it.

Looks like M1 is now offering ONR for the 10G plan @ $49.90/mth.

That's $14 cheaper than the ONT plan which comes with ASUS or TPLink router.

Anyone knows if M1 is willing to bridge the ONR? ;)

With ONR
Integrated HomePac 10Gbps
$49.90/mth
24 mths

This plan comes with

  • 24 mths HomePac 10Gbps
  • Ideal for homes where the Fibre Terminal Point (TP) is not enclosed.
  • The ONR provided with this plan also serves as WiFi 6 wireless router.
  • Free registration (worth $61.04)
  • Free ONR Activation for all time slots (worth up to $123.41)
  • Free Home Fixed Voice Service
  • Free 24 mths Mobile Broadband (Bespoke SurfValue)
  • Note: If you plan to move your address by June 2025, we recommend signing up for our 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps plans.

Looks like M1 is learning from Starhub to come out with a cheaper 10Gbps plan, but too late and in the wrong direction.

Personally I will recommend against this plan. Better to go with 5Gbps plan with ONT and TP-Link/Asus router.

Many users of Starhub issued Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR regretted due to wireless stability issues. Quite some of them got Starhun to replace the ONR with the ONT later.

Let's see if the M1 ONR users will regret or not. And let's see if M1 will entertain the ONT replacement request or not.

I am pretty sure M1 will not entertain bridging request, but the users may figure out a way to bridge. But what is the point of bridging since wireless will most likely become non functional.

If you are thinking of bridging, better forget about this plan and go with ONT.

Not for new users -- S$34.90 6Gbps plan is now gone. The best value from M1 for new users is probably the 3Gbps plan with free TP-Link BE230 or Asus RT-BE58U.

It seems to me that targetted existing users may still get S$32.90 per month recontract offer (with free Archer BE805 or RT-BE92U).

As of now, best value plans for new sign-up in my personal opinion.
1) Starhub 3Gbps plan at S$29.55 per month with free TP-Link HB410.
2) M1 3Gbps plan at S$32.90 per month with free TP-Link Archer BE230 or RT-BE58U.

The above offers are not as good as the earlier promotions for new sign-up, not because of 3Gbps vs 5Gbps, but because of the value of the bundled WiFi 7 router. The following offers are no longer provided to new users. Existing users may still want to check with Starhub/M1 to see if they can qualify for the recontract offer.
1) Starhub 5Gbps plan at S$29.55 per month with free TP-Link HB710. Recontract offer is at S$30.37 per month.
2) M1 6Gbps plan at S$34.90 per month with free TP-Link Archer BE805 or RT-BE92U. Recontract offer is at S$32.90 per month.

That being said, I will still recommend M1/Starhub 3Gbps plan to most of the average new users as they are still of better value than SIMBA 10Gbps plan since they have better support. SIMBA is also using CGNAT without static IPv4 add-on, so it is not a good option for power users either.

MR/VQ may not be so suitable for average new users either because of CGNAT and potential stability issues (especially VQ). Power users may want to consider MR/VQ.

Singtel usually does not offer good values for new users (even if the new users do not mind using ONR). Power users usually shun Singtel/WC because of ONR.

WC can be considered if the user wants lower cost and do not mind using ONR. But WC support may not be that good for average users.

Updates: as per the reports, M1 6Gbps offers for new users from the physical shops are still available.

S$34.90 per month for new home owner; S$35.90 per month for new users switching from another ISP, with free Archer BE805.

@xiaofan - I am a power user, I have M1 2.5Gbps & VQ 3Gbps.
Considering either Starhub or Singtel/WC for failover.
WC speed/cost is more appealing. However SH is on ONT.

Any opinion?

If you are going with two ISPs, I do not see issues to go with any combinations.

I tend to think VQ/M1 or VQ/Starhub are a better choice. VQ has good featues for power users (eg: static /56 IPv6, static IPv4 add-on, SFP+ ONU, etc). M1/Starhub willl be a good backup.

VQ/Singtel or VQ/WC are also okay if you do not mind using ONR for the second line.

If you want to take a bit of chance, WC may offer Nokia XS-240X-A ONR which can be easily brided. In that case, VQ 3Gbps + WC 10Gbps will be a very good combinations. ZTE F8648P ONR with new FW may not be easy to bridge.

Just an update : M1 walk-in change ISP still allows $35.90/mth 6gb plan with free BE805 router. Hope that helps those who missed.

YMMV

Just went to M1 IMM and price for new flat owner is $30.90 - 3GBPS, $34.90 - 6GBPS and $50.90 - 10GBPS.

Thanks for the info, xiaofan!

Just registered an account to share that i've managed to recontract SH 5G @ $30.37/mth with 1 free HB710 via 1630... but the "promo is ending today" (according to the telesales guy)...

And this "ending today promo" only surfaced after those on the app were offered and i mentioned that i'm looking for the 5G plan around 30+ which my "friend" recontracted :p

I stumbled across the Starhub 5gbps for $29.95 which is still active. The only downside is, it comes with an ONR.

Thanks for the updates.

Hmm, they removed this page quite some time ago. Looks like they are clearing the stock again.

But I do think 3Gbps ONT offer with HB410 at S$29.55 per month is better than the above 5Gbps all-in-one ONR offer.

Quite some Nokia XS-2426X-A ONR users complainted about wireless stability issues and wanted to change to ONT.

BTW, I have updated the above post to add the following information.

Updates: as per the reports, M1 6Gbps offers for new users from the physical shops are still available.

S$34.90 per month for new home owner; S$35.90 per month for new users switching from another ISP, with free Archer BE805.
