I say this because it's the reporting season for REITS. So i reckon the price of Reits would likely get inflated during the CD session, and then deflate during the XD session.

how much can the prices inflate? by 1 or 2 bids? or 5 to 10%?

Aimsamp is at 1.345. When I first put it on my watchlist, it was 1.310. Increase by 0.035c. Might not be a big deal if you're buying small, but I want to buy upwards of 20 lots. That's a $700 difference, at the very least.

Oh well, let's assume if the DPU remained, let's assume $0.10 and for 20lots you will get $2.1K dividend. $2.1K - $700 = $1.4K, you still win :D

then you must have a very short term view or you are just buying to speculate on the dividends. if you plan to hold long term, compare the trading price now with the prices 3 to 5 years ago. the 52 weeks low of this stock is $1.30. and you need to be realistic, nobody can buy at rock bottom prices.

I'm not expecting $1.30. You asked how much can the prices go up by, I'm just replying your question :)

And no speculation required, I will be the first to admit I'm buying this REIT because of the dividends. Buying REITs to do short term trading isn't the smartest move imo, i intend to hold this REIT for quite a few years.

the point that i am trying to make is, if you are planning to hold for a few years, then you shouldn't bother too much about a couple of bids difference.

dividends announcement is likely to inflate the reits prices by a couple of bids only UNLESS there is substantial change to the dpu. to me, it makes no difference if you buy before or after the announcement or XD because you are holding for the long term. and thats why i said to long at the longer term performance of the reit.

And the point I'm trying to make is that now is not the right time to buy, regardless of long term or short term, would be good to buy lower, no?

And yep, I know that CD will inflate the prices. I just started getting into investing, so I've already decided to buy all my stocks during XD period so that I can at least save up that few hundred dollars.

Well, I believe every investor has their own strategy which is the best for him/her :D

But, just my 2cents ... time is money, too! Just my own experience, I started investing around August-13 and that time StarHub is trading ~4.2x and I thought the price was expensive because StarHub was 3.95 just 2 months ago in June ... So I waited, and in December I had the opportunity to buy StarHub @$4.05 but I was eagerly waiting for the $3.95 ...

I might have saved $3K (assume I buying 20lots) @$3.95 instead of @$4.1, but I missed the dividend payout of $1K in Nov-13, and likely to missed another round of $1K dividend in April-14. And maybe another round of $1K dividend in May-14. And StarHub has not trade below $4 for the past 8 months since June-13, so likely to missed the $1K dividend in Nov-14 as well?? Will be even more sad if StarHub decided to payout special bonus like M1 just did?

Well, just an example. No one can predict Mr. Market mood, maybe next Monday he decided to give us 1 big round of buffet? :D

I would have gone for Starhub at $4.05 tbh. Why would you have missed the April dividend if you got it in Dec? And why May one as well?

I added M1 to watchlist at $3.38. Price rose to $3.43. Once it went down to $3.41 I hoot alr. Now at $3.45,
I inside happy lo :D

My point is not to wait for the absolute lowest price, but just wait for it to go down. Even $0.005 makes a difference :)

I got starhub at 3.96 last year, waiting for another buffet in june or july.
Sorry I'm a cheapo, prefer to buy at the lowest possible price.
Limited funds got to spend wisely.

I'm a cheapo too, not criticizing. Who wants to buy at the highest price?

If missed to get in Dec-13, and as still waiting to buy@ the low price I might not have entered till now, therefore might missed the Apr-14 and May-14 dividends (expected date based on the FY13 date).

And, Am just trying to give an example ..... On the "cost of waiting" ..... Didn't try to imply the best timing to buy StarHub :s22:

But, I believe everyone has a fair value on how much and when to buy a share (like your M1 happy example) ;)

Happy Investing :D

it is logical that everyone will try to buy at the very rock bottom prices.

whether it is possible to execute is another thing.

If so easy to make money and buy at the lowest price, then everyone will be rich. But in reality everything is depends on supply and demand. Once the share price reach a support level, many buyer will start to come in and queue. And slowly the price will rise again. I personally feel as long as don't buy at the highest price will be safe. But who knows about the market. I mean if you are a long term investor, daily fluctuation of share price don't matter much. Only those short term investor or speculators are more concern about the daily price, especially those playing contra/short sell. The daily prices are mainly drive by short term investors.
