S4 users don't really have any reason to upgrade to the S5. Maybe people who are non-Samsung users will give S5 a go. It's a solid phone at the end of the day, just that it disappoints existing Samsung users.

Good thing to note is that 4.4.2 kitkat runs pretty smooth with Touchwiz now. Less lag definitely. It's a more pleasurable user experience.

I was also disappointed by the S5 unveil. The fingerprint scanner seems buggy and don't seem to always work. Heart rate sensor is pointless. Kids mode bloatware is not necessary. The UI taking up so much storage space is also ridiculous. The phone is heavier, bulkier and it has more bezels. Previous S4 features like the useless eye tracking and the air gestures are still there. That's it for the bad parts.

Now for the good parts which I like. I was also reading about some internal optimizations samsung did which might make this phone really good. The new wifi & LTE unified download booster is interesting as well as the new battery tech. Sometimes it is not about the numbers but the optimizations of the battery tech that determines if a phone has good endurance or not. Snapdragon 801 should be a really good processor with better memory bandwidth, slightly faster cpu and faster gpu. SD800 is already very good and is still considered a top-of-the-line SoC. 2 GB of RAM should be enough since Android Kit Kat is not a memory hog like jelly bean.

I would have liked it to have 3gb of ram like the note 3 at least, just to make sure it doesn't lag at all. I also don't like it that samsung is coming up with more features that don't really matter to most users. It would be good if they can refine what they already have on the S4 and make it better.

i'm very satisfied user on s4 likely will go for s5. the secure folder lock, 128GB SD card, better battery and real-time camera view mode is very interesting to me.

on the s4 i find myself taking and editing a lot of pics to post online quick and fast, this has been a major increase in my use of phone (less camera use - and I have like 3 compacts and 2 dslrs adn 1 slr). so it depends on your usage. so that bigger battery is really good for my use.

if you're just texting, watching streaming videos, whatsapp and social media and simple photo and capture, movie streaming... seriously you don't need a phone like the s5, let alone the s4. Its arguable even that the $169 xiaomi can do that as well well as the s5, z2 and 5S.

I got the S3 intending to upgrade to S5 but too bad.

Terrible lousy phone

I rather get the HTC M8
This phone still trying to hide its useless mono speaker at the back unlike HTC M8 which features dual frontal stereo speakers. Still using cheap bandaid plastics while HTC already went full metal unibody.
Moreover, this phone has thick bezels and not to mention tons of bloatwares which takes up more than 50% of its 16GB internal storage. What the heck is that Kids Mode bloatware on this silly phone?

5.1" with only lousy 2800 mAH, which year are we living at now? good luck with your Screen On Time.

Overall, I will give this phone 2/10.
Once Samsung will never return again.

I will aim the HTC M8 which is much superior and much more innovative.

do u blast your phone in public or at home to utilize those stereo speakers?

S5 battery spec seems ok. I expect HTC M8, not be much better in terms of batt. Normally its worse anyway.

My pref for HTC is the smoother and responsive UI. Samsung has too much bloat but the cam is usually better. Boom sound is subjective but I think most ppl don't need great speakers. Personally I prefer the more stock Android experience so tats y Samsung is out for me, whatever fancy stuff they throw in.

No, apparently HTC and Sony will eats up Shitsung's pie.

Personally, I knew quite a number of samsung users changing to Sony Z1 and they are now aware of Z2. Previously they keep on buying samsung phones only.

S5 supposed to come with some fancy new battery saving algorithms that promise up to 50% better battery life. If that really works as planned, that "what year is it" 2800mah battery should last even longer than the Note 2's 3100mah one.

The Greyscale power saving mode is intriguing......

The more I look at S5, the more it looks like Note 3 Super-Mini....:)

Not that bad after all! =:p

The back panel of S5 can be used as a Handyplus in time of emergency if you have a minor cut! So health-minded product indeed!:s13:

S5 now uses 1 / 2.6" camera sensor size now, which is larger than previous S4, which is 1 / 3.2"

For my usage, I need changeable battery besides recharging as and when I can in the office.

So, I just can't use Sony or HTC now!:s8:

Yup. I was all set to upgrade from my S3 to the S5 ... until I saw the look of the S5 (sigh ... not the same design again) and its specs (hardly better than the Note 3, worse in some areas).

So I started looking at alternatives and discovered the upcoming Sony Xperia Z2! I always saw Sony as a second tier Android manufacturer but the specs of the Z2 blew me away! The Z2 misses the fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor, removable battery and phase detection autofocus of the S5, but in return, you get 1GB more RAM, bigger battery, metal/glass construction, very fluid UI and double-tap device on and off etc. And I was surprised to find that the Z2 will come with their equivalent of smart-stay, and various other motion features that I thought only existed on the Samsung.

I'm still deciding between the two but I think I'll go with the Z2. For those who have issues with the S5 for whatever reasons, I think you owe it to yourself to explore alternatives so that you can make a buying decision without regrets !
