Ditto, I am also contemplating with this idea.

FX risk & exposure has been discussed many times on this thread but current situation is different. USD demand always surges during rough period. Should retail investors look at alternate options?

ST, BBCW what’s your view?

PS: I have been reading this thread for some time now. Loads of good info. Really appreciate your efforts & patiences.

My view is you need to read my reply to this question.

investo, you may want to refer to this reply

If you are speculating on usd itself probably not a good idea but if you are buying a cheaper asset (relative to pre crisis) denominated in usd then it's a different story

For iwda i mean.

Not paticularly speculating on usd but usd is still somewhat all time high now and feel like could shoot the opposite direction once short term/ovn funding stablizes and feds pumping of liquidity actually reaches the market.

Although iwda is at a big discount compared to 2 mths back, but the strong dollar somewhat negates it a little with its strenght.

Could you advise please, im ready to enter but somewhat still want to pick a "better" timing and entry as opportunity like these dont come often.

Am holding on first as i dont think we are nearing bottom yet.

Thank you.

You can always enter in batches if you're afraid of missing the bottom or whatnot. DCA also works on shorter terms.

Think in 1929, stock crash very fast then still slowly drop for almost 10 years before recover? Is so then very scary, can't start DCA now, better wait.

Typically the faster the fall, the faster the rebound. Are you willing to risk letting these discounted prices go? Would you still invest 6 months later if the market rebounds?

Right now the market is really frothy and volatile, so if you have some extra to put in beyond your regular DCA, you can use limit orders and just name your dream price.

Another way is to take 23% (12/52) of your monthly DCA and switch to weekly DCA just to ensure you get closer to the true average given the volatility.

The initial crash at the end of 1929 was -47% from the peak, then over the next 4-5 months the market rebounded +50% off that low. Then through an unprecedented series of bad decisions, things got much worse from there and didn’t get to a true bottom until mid-1932 with a whopping -89% off the original peak in mid-1929.

Are you expecting a repeat of that?

Can anyone recall if FSMone charges platform fees? Or inactivity fees?

I remembered they made some changes to their fee structure 1-2 years ago. Right now I’m thinking of doing a lump sum into ES3, and maybe again 6 months down the road, but am worried of any hidden fees inside

Anyone here know how P2P Lending works?

From my understanding, it seem to works similar to Bonds which give interest back to the lenders.

Is P2P Lending better than Bonds?

Is P2P Lending better than Bonds?

An intermediary pools together a sum of money that becomes working capital loan for the borrower (usually an SME). The borrower pays a lower interest compared to what they would to pay borrowing from a bank, and the lender (you) would receive a higher interest compared to what you would receive depositing it in a bank. The intermediary in exchange takes a slight cut of fees for connecting lender to borrow; essentially replacing the role of the bank.

This has been catching on for quite abit in Singapore & SEA, a quick google would show a list of companies who are engaging in this business. Generally speaking their returns are better than bonds yes, but the lenders will assume the risk of default if one does happen since well, you are the lender. That being said, there are of course collaterals which the borrowers pledge when applying for these loans, which is up to the discretion of the lender on whether they are sufficient.

Whether it's a bond or P2P lending, it's only as good as the debtor's ability to repay the debt.

If you lend already and they can't pay you back then your money is gone. P2P tend to have higher interest rate because the debtor are less credit worthy.
