Competition is good.

Looks like this is to counter Starhub's new 5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum plans.

Singtel SIM Only: unlimited local data.
https://www.singtel.com/personal/mobile/plans/sim-only
Singtel 5G+ Enhanced Core plan at S$40 per month
Singtel 5G+ Priority Plus plan at S$55 per month, unlimited Malaysia Roaming
Singtel 5G+ Priority Ultra plan at S$80 per month, unlimited Malaysia Roaming, free aditional share line.

Starhub SIM Only, unlimited local data, unlimited local calls and SMS, Unlimited IDD calls, free voice roaming, DeviceDollars
https://consumer.starhub.com/personal/store/mobile-plans
Starhub 5G Unlimited+ Core at S$38 per month, S$5 DeviceDollars per month
Starhub 5G Unlimited+ Plus at S$48 per month, S$10 DeviceDollars per month
Starhub 5G Unlimited+ Max at S$78 per month, S$20 DeviceDollars per month
Starhub 5G Platinum at S$128 per month, S$50 DeviceDollars per month
Starhub 5G Platinum Elite plan at S$188 per month, unlimited global data, S$80 DeviceDollars per month
Just catching up.

I noted that StarHub's roaming is also unlimited calls/SMS. That's a very key differentiator - it allows you to stay connected and make and return calls home, which is a very useful thing. Roaming calls/SMS is where operators kill customers. Roaming charges are nuts, as anyone who has received calls can testify.

Then there's Caller ID - Singtel's Lite plans includes 12 months free only. Those who want to stay on the plans need to add the VAS charges. It all adds up quickly.

If you like StarHub plan, by all means get it with unlimited roaming calls/SMS as a perk. Please do not get StarHub plan just for the unlimited roaming calls/SMS feature alone.

The best practice is whenever you need to have lengthy calls to land lines, you pay 10 bucks to one of those calling apps. I use Skype previously - the cost is rock bottom and 10 bucks can last you "forever". LOL!

Hours later, and you selectively quote to change the post and tone. To state, that's not the point of my post.

The point of my post is that Singtel's "catching up" is full of fluff - a lot of 3-/6-/12-month things with no permanency. It is not real value, just a lot of cloud and smoke. Arguably, a 10-minute roaming call would cost much more in some cases than a month of D+, for example. It reeks of complacency and arrogance.

You obviously have never been in a situation where you were overseas and a hospital was trying to contact you because your NOK is in the ICU. You think they're gonna skype credit you or whatsapp call you? Please don't delulu. These have real consequences.

Hi all. I have the $15.xx Singtel plan (SIM 1) and $8 Eight plan (SIM 2). SIM 1 data roaming off. SIM 2 data roaming ON. Im in Philippines now and cannot receive SMS/OTP on SIM 1. Why?

Solved:

Found out DATA ROAMING (NETWORK) in Singtel app was OFF. Switching it ON solved the problem.

Oh, I see you are focusing on the "catching up" point and not on the "unlimited voice/ sms roaming" - apologies on missing that point.

I do agree Singtel is playing catching up in terms of data/voice/sms/roaming quantum. For example, if you use SIM-based wifi router or sending mass SMS, Singtel might lose out compared to better alternatives.

What I perceive is that the different telcos are not exact replicas of each other. For the mobile business, Singtel is selling experience, ie. coverage, speed, etc. M1/SH/Simba freely give VAS and quantum. So, Singtel might never catch up.

Similar situation for smartphone companies, Apple and Samsung will never be able to compete with China brands in certain aspects.

Most products and services are not commodities but differentiated. Different strokes for different business.

Seems like the Singtel $15.xx do not have voicemail..!

***************************************************

Hi All. I have a singtel $15.xx plan. How to do the following (voicemail set up, etc) without incurring additional cost when I travel overseas:

1. when a person calls my singtel number, I want the call to go to singtel voicemail.
2. Once there is a voice message in voicemail, I want the voicemail to notify me by sms.
3. I will use Eight number to call and retrieve voicemail
