There is a reasonable chance the $15.28 Singtel plan will continue in a year's time so that one can recontract.
Thinking back maybe I should have taken the free esim offer & convert to the $15.28 plan, just for VoWifi.
But certainly not with the current options.

It is unlikely that the free 6 months plan will continue beyond October, and almost certainly not beyond 2025.

Singtel vs Singtel MVNO is a perception thing.
Is there is a difference ? Probably. Is it significant ? Depends on who you ask.

Why would anyone want to go anything higher than the $15.28 plan ?
The reason to go for this plan is to be on Singtel for the lowest price, the value proposition for higher plans is simply not there.

Why would anyone want to go for anything higher than the $7.50 plans is my question.

Since it's essentially the same network.

Especially having tried the $0 priority trial, it's even harder to feel any difference.

correct me if i'm wrong, the $15 plan needs to be renewed every year as well.
if one assumes singtel allows the $15 plan to remain in 12 months time, one should also assume the $7.50 plans can continue on (albeit maybe having to port out and back in)

you don't equate stability with Singtel compared with Singtel's MVNOs?

actually i'm just curious why no one has been pushing the Singtel MVNO plans more than the $15 one.

Why would anyone want to go for anything higher than the $7.50 plans is my question.

Since it's essentially the same network.

Especially having tried the $0 priority trial, it's even harder to feel any difference.

The Singtel recontract offer has been there at least since 2020. BTW It was S$20.37 per month previously. So it is very likely that the offer will be there and it may also go down in the future if others drop price.

The Singtel MVNO offers are very new and one can have reasonable doubt it will not continue next year. Rather the 5G plan pricing may drop to S$10 per month range but not with such 50% OFF promotion.

I will tend to agree with @A7997A with his below statement.
It is unlikely that the free 6 months plan will continue beyond October, and almost certainly not beyond 2025.

Still the current 50% OFF offers from Singtel MVNOs like Zym/Zero1/Vivifi are really good (port-in offer with 7th to 12th month free; new user offer with 4th to 6th month free).

Just enjoy while you can.

Why would anyone want to go for anything higher than the $7.50 plans is my question.

Different people may have different preferences. Nothng wrong or right here. To each his own.

No right or wrong, got money/no money, just individual preferences and needs.

This is especially true if we compare S$15.28 per month vs S$7.50 per month. Some people will argue this is just the price of one or at most two Cai Png (not easy to find S$4 Cai Png now in many places).

Some examples:

1) SIM Only Plan users will think why people pay for the high monthly price for those bundled with devices and two year contract (and often adding the total, they will spend more). But then they may just like to get the latest iPhone or Samsung, and like to pay by installment.

2) Mobile phone vs home wireless router

I set my main Android phone budget to be below S$400 (and will use it for two to three years), same as my home wireless router. Others will set the budget of the phone to S$1500+ but the wireless router budget to Zero (only using ISP bundled router).

BTW, my wife will only use iPhone and she likes to have large storage, so her phone will not be cheap even with the base model (now iPhone 14 512GB version), but she would like to use it for at least 4 years. She was using iPhone X 256 GB for 4 years.

3) Mobile phone plan vs travel or other spendings.

Some people will go with the S$7.5 per month plan but may go with a expensive trip.

Maybe I should have also said this, hahaha

I'm currently on the $20 plan. Left 2 weeks to end of contract so hesitating to recon to $15 or jump out and back to vivifi.

It is a bit dangerous to consider those plans $7.50.
It is $15 per month, unless you complete the entire year.
Things change along the way and it is possible that circumstances force you to port out before completing the year. Also consider that this is a one time promo, do not expect that this will be repeated.

That said, the Singtel $15.28 is in a similar situation requiring a 12 month contract, and is in fact worse off since you can't break the contract without penalty during that period.

That said, my opinion of why people choose the Singtel $15.28 after asking a similar question recently is :
1) It is Singtel, not Singtel MVNO
2) VoWifi is a distinct difference on Singtel plans, since few mention this, probably not important for most.
3) Supposedly priority over MVNO plans. Some observed a difference, other mentioned that it is not obvious, and the only time it will be useful is when the network is overloaded, like in stadium, concert, MRT.
4) It has worked well for them, and they don't want to rock the boat.
5) They are willing to pay the slight premium for the Singtel brand.
6) If you are still in doubt, see 1)

Will I take advantage of this 6 months free promo or take the Singtel Offer ?
If I can sign straight into it without all these hassle, maybe I would take the SIngtel $15.28, so that I can be on Singtel's network with VoWifi. But with the pre-requsite, no thanks, since it push the effective fee to $18+ and I have to deal with a 12mth contract plus VAS that disappear after 12mths.

I was on Zym's $15.10 plan and was planning to sit out this promo until Zero1 CSO started saying they have VoWifi, so imagine my disappointment when it turn out to be a false claim.

Anyway, back to this topic. if you are on the look out for a 5G plan, the 6 months free is certainly very compelling, but there is always other consideration that might be important to others that might tilt the scale.

I just received email that my $20 contract is going to expire and have to pay 5G and caller id.

Jitao look at this thread to find lobang and recon to $15 and glad to see now the offering is better: 250GB local monthly and 50GB Malaysia monthly at cheaper price. Woohoo!

Hey guys quite curious why would anyone sign up for the $15 plan when basically all the other MVNOs are offering $7.50 after 6 months port in discounted?

Granted you'll have to port out somewhere for a month at like $10, it's still essentially a 50% savings in the long term.

Is Customer Service that important when you basically will never really contact them ever?

Can't really think any other factors are worth the extra $7.50, MVNOs eSIM also have, 5G also have, and actually with the bonus roaming data to hot spots like Japan and Thailand, it doesn't make any sense to sign up with Singtel directly.

for moi case, i need an e-sim for moi watch.. currently only that 3 telecos support.

Really tempted to get those mvno to get the roaming, but those countries maybe only travel twice a year, so I dont mind paying extra separately.

What I need is extra stability and reliable and speed for local as 90% of the time I am are here in Singapore.

i cant justify for the price either, for same price if you went the mvno route you can get 2 lines and more roaming.

network stability and reliability wise i had no issues with sintel mvno either. its basically sintel network. they also been around for years and still going strong, brand or not doesnt matter to me. as long as my line works and i have data and can ocasionally make calls it is good enough.

to me is not worth paying double just for vowifi or that 0.001% chance i will be stuck with no data because of crowded area. my mvno sintel loads fine in a crowded train as well. even if im stuck with no data its temporary and will pass quickly. (though someone will say there is a difference for sure)

you are merely paying for the convenience for a physical human to talk to you when you need support or a store to walk in to. of course mvnos only have email and chat support but i also much prefer this as it is way more convenient for me.
Yeah agree

Paying double at $15 seems to get 3 tangible benefits
1. real human cso / faster or not depends
2. esim for watch option
3. Vowifi (I'm pretty sure no one desperately needs this to pay double the price, lmao)

haha! There is always people who prefer MNOs with better network 5G+ (true in away) as MVNOs always get the crumbs and last!

Singtel Sim Only enhanced lite is SQ premium Economy, enhanced Plus or pro is Business class.

Singtel mvno (Zero1, Zym and Vivifi) is SQ Economy.

#1 can be important for many people. Same reasons why some people stick to the bigger three (or at most MR/VQ) but not SIMBA/WC. You can argue that people may need more support for Fibre Internet though.

I do not really need technical support from Singtel most of the time (except to get IPv6 for Singtel ONR). But occassionally I will have billing related queries with Singtel and then the support is decent.

#2 is a niche use case but can be a deal breaker for thoe who need it.

for moi case, i need an e-sim for moi watch.. currently only that 3 telecos support.

I will say #3 is also a nich use case. And typical mobile phone has the default configuration to prefer Mobile network than WiFi Network, so seldom people will use VoWiFi even under Singtel.

#4: For me single billing organization is also one good thing to have as I have Singtel Fibre Internet as well (last time also got Singtel TV). I choose to go with Tuas for Electricicty mainly because I can still use Singapore Power for billing. You will think this is not a real issue but for some folks this is actually important as they do not use Giro or App to pay bills. I do use Giro or App to pay my biils. I pay Singtel bills with MySingtel app. I pay my utility bill with SP app, but then I choose to pay Starhub with credit card recurring payment.

In the end, you can refer to the answer below.

I go for all, ST to get the benefits of getting devices etc., while having MVNO to complement the lack of roaming by ST in 2025.
So many options and combinations to play with.
