hi all, so if i am in overseas, i just dont accept or reject the call that is fine right? Was on enhance lite plan previously and i just let the call rang through. I didnt get any charge by Singtel. This is the same for the 1528 plan is it?

Same.

It is just there are some corner cases and some iPhone thingy which may cause issues for different solutions.

For example, usually ignoring the call may be better than declining the call but hard to say. For me I tried both way and no issues. YMMV.

this is why I'm trying to avoid any bill shock by activating call forwarding if possible before flying out.

the amount of time spend calling in to appeal / explain... can be very traumatic especially when nowadays there's no human CSO and everything is through layers and layers of AI bot chats, etc.

got it. thanks! i was wondering if there is any difference or additional things i need to take note of under the 1528 plan as compared to my previous ST plans. Usually i am very scared of all these data roaming thing and the hidden costs.

When i transitioned to the new ST enhanced plan last august (iirc), and went to JB, ST side screwed up. Somehow they didnt transfer my free msia 2gb roaming which i was entitled to. So i had a huge shock when i was at Msia custom when all of a sudden, my wife and I got notified by ST about this 500mb precautionary cap, and i kept getting a lot of notification of the charges etc. And there is no way i could call them as i was under Msia network. So i had to turn off my data roaming, and rely on offline map (heng i had it) to reach my destination before i could settle down and communicate with ST via whatsapp. That was when i was informed by the ST operator and they apologised. Had a huge shock.

Im on singtel $15.xx plan. Recentely went to Bali. I configured this way to avoid any charges.

  • In the My Singtel App: Keep Data Roaming (Network) toggled ON.
  • On your physical phone settings: Turn Data Roaming strictly OFF.
I used SIM 2 (Eight Telco) for data roaming.

Yet I was charged for AutoRoam (PAYR) and for rejecting an incoming call. Toatal $27.67 instead of $15.xx. Whenever i go overseas I always get these type of charges sneaked in - ONLY for SingTel. It is time to quit Singtel.

If i go to Starhub Senior Plan $6, will these things happen too?
Can explain more? Singtel detected small amount of data that's why charged u?

Autoroam (PAYR) means they charged you pay as you roam rate? Isn't it expensive.

Hmm, not so sure what is AutoRoam (PAYR).

By right the full name of the add-on is "Auto Subscribe to ReadyRoam". You should really turn it on and it is much better than another add-on "Pay As You Roam".

As for why he got charged, no idea. It may well be due to Dual SIM settings and there are some data leaks.

This is not a for-sure-working solution as mentioned by others in the earlier discussions.

Some even suggest to remove the Singtel SIM Card but then you can not receive free incoming roaming SMS. For SingTel MVNOs (not including Gomo and Singtel hi! as they do not support Roaming Voice), that makes no sense because you are wasting the bundles roaming data.

In the end, if one worry so much about roaming voice call charges, better move out of Singtel SIM Only...

I guess it's about time to switch my 1528 line settings from 5G Auto to 5G On?

Been using only 5G Auto coz I feel their 5G not as stable to rely fully on it. But now that they're shutting 5G NAS, does it make sense to just to put 5G On already? :o
I switched mine to 5G On yesterday. Just now I was at an area where the recent signal has dropped to 4G. With “5G On”, I ended up w no network. It changed to 4G eventually but took some time - about a minute as i was observing. IMHO, best is to leave it as “5G Auto”.

yah, it won't make sense to remove SIM card since we will still need to receive OTP every now and then even when overseas (e.g. to login to banking account).

previously when I was on GOMO, no such concerns since they didn't have data roaming and voice roaming anyway. now I'm not sure... seems like they have started adding these features which can be both + and -

definitely not going to the extreme of moving out of singtel sim-only but just trying to avoid those unpleasant shocks. last time (many years ago) still can easily call 1688 to speak to a human to request to waive/refund the charges after some explaining but now idk how troublesome it has become 🤷‍♂️

Thanks so much for sharing this.👍

I've yet to change and looks like I won't change for the time being. 👌😁

You are right. Im subscribed to "Auto Subscribe to ReadyRoam". The wording used in the singtel bill is "AutoRoam (PAYR)".

AI says I got chagred may be due to small amount of data leaks though I followed Singtel's prescription and i should ask Singtel for waiver.

Your settings are supposed to be the correct one. I use the same settings and never got charged when roaming. In fact I used the exact same SingTel S$15.28 plan plus eight S$8 plan for roaming during my short trip to China in December 2025. I rejected two calls from a government agency and used eight to call back.

On the other hand I seldom travel. So my experiences may not be the same as those who travel often.

It could be due to dual SIM settings.

Starhub S$12 (S$6 with Passion Card offer) senior plan will be fine as it offers free roaming voice calls and SMS (both incoming and outgoing). The roaming data bundle are too little but you can use your eight Mobile line for that. eight also offer free roaming voice (incoming and outgoing), but no free outgoing roaming SMS.

The only drawback is that you lose the network redundancy since eight is also using Starhub network.

I would also go to Starhub Senior Plan in this case if I were qualified (not yet qualified 50+ years old now).

Thanks for explaining. Im on dual for the longest time. I have this problem ONLY with singtel ...though i paired Eight with M1 for more than a year or so, taking 5 trips with no such problem.

Which M1?

M1 Maxx, no issues. No bill shock. They added free roaming voice to +65 Singapore recently. Previously no roaming voice support at all. No bill shock in either case.

M1 MNO BeSpoke SIM Only plan, seems to have problems now as per the reports, for both roaming data (automatically enabled in some cases, even with phone data roaming off) and roaming voice (pay as you roam). Even worse, Caller ID is not free, including the new SIM Only senior plan.

Somehow I fail to see any points to subscribe to M1 BeSpoke SIM Only plans ...

Then this data leak also happened to M1 Daily Worldwide Passport activated even with phone data roaming off.

Not sure if dual sim affects it

Interesting. Not so sure why the roaming data leaks happen.

Good to know that SingTel is usually willing to refund the charges.

I only know SingTel hi! Prepaid card (with no data plan subscribed) got the local data leaks after the shutdown of 3G network. The data leaks there are because of VoLTE. But then the charge is not high since it local data (about 6 cents once in a while). Singtel is reported to be able to waive the charges as well in that case and may offer some free data to avoid the problem.

When the roaming data leak happened, the telco should tell us what was used because the data captured was in kb.... it's very small

I think someone mentioned due to esim, but thats not what I experience within my two instance previously

One was with esim, data roaming off
One was without esim, data roaming off
And it happened within two days

IMHO.
Just want to say that my connection with 5G is all over the place.
Some examples,
Poor speed.
Drop to 4G and never recover.
5G but no data.
No 5G.

:ROFLMAO:
Do not use what 5G Auto settings be it on iOS or Android whichever equivalent settings. Singapore has full 5G coverage, do not let the device poll the 4G
