Need some advice from you guys.

I sent my Xperia Z for servicing 9 days ago (17th Sep) and they only got back to me today, saying that there is water corrosion.

I've only rinsed it with tap water once (14th Sep) and wiped it dry with a cloth immediately after rinsing, making sure all the flaps were closed beforehand. In fact I always close all flaps tightly.

How is it possible to be water corrosion?

And the customer service (Lynn Tan) said that the phone might be beyond repair or unstable and that warranty is void because of the water corrosion.

Im quite lost now. Im on a 2 year plan with Starhub from 2013 March till 2015 March. If my phone is really spoilt and warranty void what is your advice?

If I intend to upgrade to Xperia Z1, do I need to go Starhub and pay the penalty + pay for the new Z1 since I'm upgrading my phone early?

What shall I do with my spoilt Xperia Z then?

Argh really lost and headache. Really need advice here.

They really is screwed up.

Mine is probably the same situation as you, and I predict they are going to say the same thing to me.

I sent in on 21 Sept and till now no phone call. If they haven't even open to see now, I am sure it would have corroded too. The issue is, if you don't open it quick enough, of course it will start to corrode, right?

I feel for your case, and I am just going to wait till they call me to say the same, and I will blast them for not opening it up to check before it corrode. It is their fault for taking so long to open and check.

even if they open up and see no corrosion but water inside, what difference does it make? warranty still void what.

Its not correct , when u give the phone for repair if there is water log the indicator should show pink in the flaps and its checked as soon as u give phone for service by the collection person , they cant call after 4 -5 days and say this , what if they themselves spoilt it ? write an email to sony support and complain ....

I know about the flap turning pink/red when it touch water. I opened mine before sending it in, it was white. That means it didn't touch water.

I really don't know what's wrong. Since they emailed me at 1pm, I mailed them back at 1:20pm, they havent gotten back to me.

And I'm stuck with my ancient Nokia N8 that can't even surf net (takes 2 minutes to open up facebook, and 5 minutes or more for graphic intensive websites) and too paiseh to take out to use in public cuz its too ancient. :o:o

Maumu -> Update me about your phone too. Haiz. The phone is very good but why the customer service so sucky.
What happened to your phone? Same situation as mine? Just rinsed it once with tap water to remove dust and wiped it dry with a cloth, also can get water corrosion. Argh.

If they 'sit on it' and did not check or repair immediately, the internal parts will definitely corrode after a few days since the water inside will remain inside. FYI I sent in for repair the morning after I washed the phone the night before and discovered the flap wasn't secured in place. Corrosion wouldn't have taken place yet in such a short time.

So who knows if they may use dirty tactic and wait for a few days for the corrosion to take place, then call you and say it is corroded and hence warranty voided?

I experienced a similar case with Nokia before, but for that one, when I sent it in, it was already corroded so I know it is corroded upon checking-in. But for this Z, there is no evidence of corrosion yet so I will be quite pissed off if they claimed it was corroded upon sending-in.

actually I was told that warranty will void only if it is corroded. if there is water inside but no corrosion, the warranty stays.

this was what I was told by the service lady...

I need help on phone contact sync via google contacts, some of my contact cannot be viewed in the address book of Z?

I already tick all the filter options but I still cannot find some of my contacts. The funny thing is that when those contacts that are not found and when they call, my phone record showed their name and numbers and I can view them in my address book.

Does anyone experience this on their Z, please help.

Thanks.

Just insist since the white indicator did not turn pink hence u did in fact close all ports before the phone came into contact with water. Warranty should still be valid as there is nothing else you could have done to prevent water from going in. :vijayadmin:

try to go to options and see if you filtered anybody out? There's a DISPLAY CONTACTS in the filter option inside settings.

Hi guys... My camera has the black spot issue, and it is really apparent in the photos. However,my phone is rooted and unlocked. Any advice on how to send my phone for repair? The best way for me is to go stock and then relock boot loader.

You can do a pc repair via pc companion then send in for the repair.

Looks like I have to wait 1 more week before hearing about my phone. lol.
I'll copy and paste the email I just received. Now they trying to say I never close the flaps properly, when I always press and make sure the flaps are closed very tightly when not in use.And can anyone advice what's the meaning of PCB in the email they sent? Cuz I'm so angry the only PCB I can think of is a vulgarity. Why does my phone have a PCB? It's female?

Dear Mr. Fat_Boustead

This is to inform you that our technician have tested the phone on the water resistant test and is passed, if passed meaning the phone is able to resist water.

Therefore, there could be possibility that the flap did not close properly as you mention that you have closed all the flaps before rinising.

If the phone is beyond repair after technician have tried clean up, if needed to replace PCB then charges apply but will inform first before repair it.

The estimation of the outcome will be next week onwards as they will need to monitor the phone after clean up of the corroded part.

Thank you & Best Regards,
Felicity Shagwell

Printed circuit board. It's like your PC's motherboard.

I too have sent a water damaged phone in to repair, kept hounding them to go look at it before the water corroded the parts. For whatever reason, they didn't inform me its ready (i checked the online status and it says its ready). Could it be because they don't want to spoil my weekend? oh damn man
