3 days ago while in Krabi, I took the XZ for a snorkling/swim. Within 10sec at less than 1m into the water (seawater to be exact) the phone died. I went up the boat, the flaps were still secured. I opened them and greenish water started dripping out. Ouch!

Came back to SG today and went to Sony centre. The lady said they will do a water test. Basically to test if it is still water sealed. If yes, means I didn't secure properly, the warranty voided. If no, means I still got a chance to get it serviced.

I took my Xperia GO for kayaking last year with the phone fully submerged in sea water at times, still rocking well today. I put the same faith in my XZ and failed me.

Good thing is, my SD card and SIM card are well, and my data (especially photos) are still alive. Phew!

Anyway I'll get the 'lab' result next week. Fingers crossed.
but mine is the rubber that is damage leh. Than she keep say the rubber damage is not under warranty. Like that how arh -.-
On the acknowledgement form it says, "Phone indicator turn red, customer aware phone maybe unstable or beyond repair." I want to shoot her say, my phone is not dead, as no water went in. Just that a drip or so sip into it and turn the freaking paper red -_-

Time for you to go down to the service centre and talk to their supervisor. Take down his/her name, record the conversation and tell them this will be up on the internet/blog today.

Cost of plastic flap = $0.12
Cost of technician labor = $12.00
Cost of overheads = $5.00

the rest is just the premium they charge you to feed the bosses of Sony.

What trouble? Firstly they sell phone at marked up of 300% or more.

Secondly if u kena water damage, it's your user fault. People will asked huh but why? They can take their set and put in water but no problem.

So next time u guys wanna buy water resistant or those who thinking about getting sony xz because of water resistant. Think AGAIN

I am ok with Sony phone being water resistant. But why is the rubber not covered in the warranty. My Xperia Z did not have any water damage as only 1 - 2 drops of water went in and turn the indicator red.

Agree, I have my phone since March and have been washing my phone when it is dirty, no issue with the indicator turn red or water go into the phone.

If you don't know what you are talking about, please keep the comments to yourself.

The only brand I know who sell their handset at an extremely high premium is Apple. Just look at their annual financial announcements.

XZ is meant to be used in water. Water proofing problem could come from QC over at their manufacturing plant. If such is the case, the plant will have to compensate Sony.

So far I've brought it into showers, baths, onsen and swimming pool. I don't have a problem. It could just be a later batch, which would point further to the QC issue.

Mine no issue also. The only issue is the rubber at the headphone there broke so a few drops went in. However, I am disappointing with them not changing the rubber for me as it is not covered by the warranty.
