omg.. you guys are making me lean towards zenfone 5...

the only 2 things stopping me now is the buttons are not lit and people keep saying battery life is bad...

i guess unlit buttons can get used to it. but battery life.... is it really that bad?

for me, i'm used to having my phones last from morning 9am to evening 9pm. and still at least have 10 - 20 % left. capable of doing this? I'm not a very heavy user. maybe sometimes play some 20-30 minutes game on train. whatsapp and line, email checking and web browsing a bit. oh and i always leave google now on and all the background syncing on.

If u need a phone w/ strong batt, forget zf5. I'm not saying it's bad, it still can last through out a day but u need to monitor your usage closely. I'm running on ultra-saving mode (ie, data network auto cut off when phone in sleep), no game, disable almost all sync update, 2 sim and do quite alot of FB/net surfing... it has ard 10%~15% when i get home.
In other words, u can't use it to perform many tasks on the road if you don't want to carry your power bank...;)
And forget abt those battery saver apps, they can drain your batt more than saving it.
Other than its mediocre batt life, zf5 is a great dual-sim phone on the market. However, if dual-sim is not a must for you, you might wanna look else where (say, mi3).

I'm rooted(doesnt matter) but am using a 2A charger instead of the stock 1.35A charger. 3 weeks already no problem leh.

Most probably you have a rouge app or lemon set or you did not know this phone is using LIPO battery? yeah those exploding batteries you read about in the Remote Control Hobbies forum. Lipo battery maintenance is different from those li-ion batteries found in almost every phone. One of the thing that is stated in the manual is that you should not plug in extended period after fully charged. You should also not fully drain the battery. Go read up about LiPo.

I never believed in the 8hr first charge thingy for all my gadgetz although it is stated in the manual for Asus case.

Anyone with rooted unit facing any issue while update to latest system version release today?

I tried a few time but fail to update with error
“E: Installaton failed with status 1
E:Cannot load volume/miscl”

Yeah happen to me but manage in the end. I guess during rooting process some files got deleted i suppose.

Try factory reset but uncheck the internal storage(keeping all you apps and setting) and try again.

If cannot, backup everything then full reset check internal storage and try again.

If still cannot just wait for the latest FW from Asus and reflash.

i didn't know its li-po battery. hmmm does it really make a difference? shouldn't the phone have built in circuits to control the flow of current into the phone? regardless of the battery type? if the phone cannot stay plugged in overnight, its bad... i do that all the time... lol
