i didn't know its li-po battery. hmmm does it really make a difference? shouldn't the phone have built in circuits to control the flow of current into the phone? regardless of the battery type? if the phone cannot stay plugged in overnight, its bad... i do that all the time... lol

Most likely I got a lemon set. My phone is not rooted and I have not fully switch over yet. Only whatsapp, stock quote and a lock app.

For charging, I believe the battery charging circuit is on the phone main board. We just supply 5v in for the juice.

If you read on battery saving tips, regardless of any phones one should not leave it plugged in after it is fully charged, Because it will still trickle charge, maintaining 100%. Some can get away doing that with li-ion batteries but lipo is just different, you cannot do that.

Got warranty then no worries lah.

If can still switch on, try factory reset. If still same then off you go to the warranty counter.

so its just the extended charging is not good right? what about 2A vs 1A charger?

cos I'll probably be using that Xiaomi 10k power bank to charge it a lot. any idea will cause any problem?

Charge and discharge characteristics of Li-polymer are identical to other Li-ion systems and do not require a special charger. Safety issues are also similar in that protection circuits are needed. Gas buildup during charge can cause some Li-polymer in a foil package to swell, and equipment manufacturers must make allowances for expansion. Li-polymer in a foil package may be less durable than Li-ion in the cylindrical package. Li-polymer is not limited to a foil package and can also be made into a cylindrical design.

Li-polymer Battery: Substance or Hype?

nice information. basically I should just treat it like a normal phone battery.
and the usual TLC for batteries should apply too.

reading the part about the battery swelling makes me worry a bit though... haha i remember the older phone batteries will swell up such as the old nokia 8250 battery.

somemore zenfone 5 has its battery sealed up inside. replacing is not easy too

how to get additional $10 off from line?
I got $10 from sosoon liao
you add Sosoon on your Line Messager. Then there's some lucky draw for $100 voucher. if you don't get the $100, you still can possibly get $10...

Yeah happen to me but manage in the end. I guess during rooting process some files got deleted i suppose.

Try factory reset but uncheck the internal storage(keeping all you apps and setting) and try again.

If cannot, backup everything then full reset check internal storage and try again.

If still cannot just wait for the latest FW from Asus and reflash.

Thanks Bro!

I did the factory reset with check internal storage but still cannot. so now i try to download the FW from ASUS Singapore and try to flash first. And after that will update to latest via OTA.

Btw, after you update, your root access is still available?

First i did was unrooting but ota still doesnt work so I reflash then update but then I cannot root back again. I regret not rooting back in the first place.

Then I reflash again and somehow the update stayed and I was able to root.

i was rooted on previous rom and received the ota update. Did the update and the phone went bonkers and kept booting into retail mode.

had to do a data wipe followed by by root to remove the retail mode before it went back to normal.

wifi kept turning on for no apparent reason as well, did multiple data wipes before my phone decided to perform normally!

hey zenfone 5 owners, is the speaker volume of the zenfone 5 loud?
especially those who owned redmi note too, how does the volume compare?

its important to me cos my phone is my one and only alarm clock. LOL~

My vol sucks big time. Wechat sometimes wont auto switch to speaker/earpiece and my car audio wont detect audio output as smoothly as my note 3. And when i place my phone at my ear, vol is minimal.

Last time when i use bluetooth, wechat audio will play frm my bluetooth headset (note 3), but zf5 wont. So its quite irritating, not that its a major issue, but it causes unneccessary trouble.

Hmm. So should I unroot first before applying the ota updates? I'm kinda confused here.

For me, I cannot ota with or without root. End up after multiple wipes and reflash, I think just download latest full FW from Asus will be much cleaner and stable option for rooted phones. I also disable the ota service, I forgot which one is the ota system app so dont ask.

Ota will just cause conflicts and errors with rooted phones.

I think the best way for rooted units is flash the ROM with current FW from Asus Singapore website first. After that do the OTA update to latest version. Only after that root again.

That simplified things. Thanks.
