It is very difficult to react last min unless they are breaking down every day.
It will take time to recall and plan all the resources according to the affected stations.
That is the reality and limitation of the situation that we have to faced.

It is a blessing that they can recover and repair the situation and not close shop for the night.
Or having the system handicapped for one week.
We have been ready since SARS.

Was reading 154 and he represented ntuc to argue against min wage. Dafug as ntuc leader he shld be fighting for workers and not employers. If he disagrees the least he should do is to keep quiet. How can ntuc as a union argue against pay incrememt.

This sounds very logical but at the same time very evil.

Office workers lives and comfort are so important that essential workers have to risk their lives to do non essential maintenance?

I do think preventive maintenance done correctly is important. If during ** they can buy themselves more time wouldn't it be better?

The news that I find more mind boggling is that their maintenance the day before caused the disruption in three lines. Tight for time, but should have done some checks before calling it a day?

This argument I always wonder the validity.
Minimum wage is not increase in salary..
In fact, it is worrying, because many companies will peg the salary to minimum wage when they could offer higher.. We might have minimum wage for some workers who are getting paid lower now, but the money got to come from somewhere and the companies will cut salary elsewhere.

End of the day it might be counter productive..
So OYK did not argue against higher salary for the ppl, but he argued against the minimum wage model..

simple argument for this:

for the 13 workers who are earning $1,000 (total $13,000 in salary), 3 of them will lose their jobs if the minimum wage is $1,300, assuming nothing changes in terms of how much the business can afford to pay in wages.

as a union leader, would you rather have 10 people employed, paying you $9 in union dues monthly, or 13 people employed? ;)
