seems like opennet need to speed up tp installation after all the telcos are firing their salvos, blaming opennet for their business losses/
The opco is another issue. If OpenNet has installed the termination point but the opco is slow to activate, its no use.

Have read on OpenNet's Facebook page and also on this forum of some cases whereby the TP is installed but the RSP is unable to provide the service and the person must wait months.

I am quite fortunate. OpenNet came in mid Jan to install my TP. Shortly after I signed up with ViewQwest. Surprisingly they confirmed installation of ONT and commencement of service on 10 Feb.

I guess it helps when your RSP is also an opco. One less middleman means less delay.

Can u pls PM me ur contractor's name & contact?

$400 for 2 points like quite ex leh. Wonder if this is considered market rate or not. My TV & pc table r at opposite corner of the room so i was hoping to have 2 points near TV & 2 near pc. If so ex i guess have to be one point each liao.

Come to think of it, is it cos conceal in false celing dats y so ex? I wonder if ask him to set up a conduit for the cat 6 cables & my existing starhub cables & phone wire will b cheaper or not.

My contractor quoted $385 for 15 metres of Cat6 cabling. Is that the normal rate?

He is suggesting I ask opennet to terminate fibre just near the door way and I run Cat6 from there to the console area. Is that how its done?

any comments on the quality and workmanship of the casing done by the opennet contractor? Are they doing a neat job?

OpenNet installs the TP near your Starhub cable TV point which is presumably where your TV console is. So why do you need a contractor to run cat 6 to the console area when the TP is already there? If your PC is in the living room you just need to connect a cat 6 cable from your PC direct to the TP much like how you would connect your TV to the Starhub cable TV point.

Unless like me, you intend to have data point in the bedroom then you need contractor to run cat 6 from the console area to bedroom terminating in an ethernet patch panel where your PC connects directly to.

Depends on your existing layout. I already have trunking when Starhub installed the cable TV point last time so OpenNet used the existing trunking wherever they could. Only areas where there's no trunking then they installed new ones.

If the $385 is for one point then its friggin ex lor. Also, 15 metres where got enough? The OpenNet fibre from my main door to the living room TV console already is 13 metres for my flat and that just covers about 2 and half walls.

If I round that distance up to 15m, I estimate the distance from my TV console (where the ONT will be kept) to my PC table in my bedroom is 45 to 65 metres. At $385 for 15metres, that would cost me about $1,500!!! And contractors usually charge per data point as each point needs one cat 6 cable. Imagine if I was looking at 2 points. That would be $3,000 based on your quote!

So assuming you got your quotation correct, yes I think its bloody ex. Suggest you ask other contractors for quotes. My contractor is coming first week Feb. He will need to do site visit before can give me exact price but he has estimated $400-500 for 2 points. I also understand from the IT guy at my office that each point is usually $200 to $250 but of course depends on how much cable is required too i.e. the further the data point is from the ONT the more ex.

My house all wiring is concealed? Is it possible to do concealed for ethernet?

Read from HDB website that concealed cabling not allowed, but dunno that refers to power lines only or includes data cabling

Any comments on their installation quality? Do the Opennet contractors lay the casing neatly?

I engaged a guy to do my lan cabling from Living to Study, and he effed the whole thing. Took out chunks of plaster while drilling and now I have to redo the whole thing :s27:

Dont want to go through the same experience with Opennet.

Why need to drill? Surface trunking is using nails what.

For that extra 1 or 2 meter more and free, do a '**** In Boot face' or 'Jedi Mind Trick' style to the foreign worker contractors. :D

no need. I have seen many flats which stretches along the corridor to have the ingress as one of the windows far away from the main door.

Going to take over a flat soon but realised the previous owner didn't take up the free opennet installation last time....sigh.. looks like have to pay for it liao

On a side note, 'Cos I'm only doing very slight renovations, still considering if it's worth to have trunking to put lan points in other rooms (which can look unsightly) or just rely on homeplug or wireless..headache

Go for lan lah. Better speed & more stable.

LAN still the best. HDB too dense liao. easily can find 10+ wifi access points around your house.

since u doing reno, see can get ur contractor to hide the wiring behind the furniture or not.

e.g, can pull the cat6 cable behind wardrobe, and a RJ-45 point can installed on the side wardrobe
