So ur picture is showing 2 ports open?if one port, we can only see either blue or orange? Techinically why if change isp, must change to different port?

Typically, Singtel, M1, VQ have their own Modem while starhub and MR uses the same type of Modem by NC. When you are switching to other ISPs, yes if they are using different modem from your current one.

Anyway, I was a little worried at the way they handle the cables. They twist and turn it, and sometimes the cable get caught between the cover of the trunking as they are hammering on it to close it. :s22:

high chances your fibre cables inside are damaged and you will have poor signal

hey guys,

have been following this thread and this is wat i have gathered to keep in mind for the OpenNet installation:
(1) Punctuality
If the installers don't come on time, or even after u have given them a half hour's grace, it will be best to call ur ISP that u signed up with or OpenNet to confirm that the installers r indeed coming
(2) Tamper Seal
Make sure the installers stick a "Voided if Tampered" sticker on the TP box after installation has been completed
(3) Positioning
Positioning of ur TP box can be anywhere, only 15m from the corridor is provided free though
Also, try as much as possible to insist that they activate both Ports 1 and 2
(4) Measurement Test
Acceptable range is between 19-20dB, the nearer the reading is to 0, the better it is

I m having my installation tml (20/9) so will greatly appreciate it if bros here have any more points that i should look out for during installation?

Thanks!

You are totally wrong on point 3. One port = 1 fiber contract. You only sign up for 1 service and only one port is required. No way they will activate both ports.

I just referred back to some of M1's thread and saw that for those with white ONTs who recontracted 100Mbps to upgrade to 200Mbps (M1 black ONT support 200Mbps), they will need to have 2 appointment dates. First one is to collect back the white ONT which belongs to OpenNet and the 2nd app is for M1 side. Since now there is a delay on OpenNet side, it became the bottleneck so the 1st app is affected.

Correct me if I am wrong, this is what I have gathered after spending the past 2 hours reading.

So my advise for those who are stucked, if calling M1 CSO doesn't help... try their M1 website contact page, usually someone senior will call and attend to you personally. Since you have already signed the recontract, there no reason for you to pay the normal price since this is not your fault so you need to know how to talk to the M1 person.

Not M1's fault either. It is OpenNet's fault.

M1 was previously not a Qualifying Person (QP) of OpenNet and thus they go through NC. After IDA opened up the markets, M1 applied to become a QP and therefor there is these "upgrades", which is essentially M1 dropping all their contracts with NC and they take over everything themselves.

To do so M1 has to apply for their own fiber which is usually the 2nd port of your TP. A lot of 2nd fiber activation face delay because OpenNet never foresee the spike in increase in demand of fiber broadband so the infrastructure and capacity wasn't planned and installed ahead so there is a lot of delays.

But things should get smoother now since OpenNet implemented fiber takeover process where M1 can directly inherit the fiber from NC.

So if i change from Singtel to VQ after contract, there will be no 'swiching/opening of port' charges?

Does it work if the ONT is connected to the homeplug using ethernet cable and the other pair of the homeplug connects to modem?

Wah really ah? If like that, dnt really need to do conceal trunking and stretch the optic fibre to all the way to living room rite? Because my store room( with electrical and phone socket) is right behind my electrical riser along the corridor.so i believe, there is already data point around the sockets. So thinking of putting the TP and ONT in store room(easiest fastest way for the installer)then modem in living room. ONT in store and modem in living room conmected by a homeplug pairing. My question then is,will there be a risk in getting poor internet speed as compared to getting ont tp and modem all located at living room?

The powerline homeplug connection between ONT in store room and router in living room will be the severe bottleneck of your entire fibre broadband experience. Powerline 200 Mbps real world speed is about 40-50 Mbps. Powerline 500 Mbps real world speed can be about 80 Mbps to 120 Mbps but some reported lower speed.

Furthermore, this intended way of using powerline connecting ONT -> Router WAN is as good as extending the LAN cable and will not create a home LAN unless it is from Router LAN out to PCs, etc.

I got u.so u r sayin its best to stretch the optic cable all the way to living room(where my tv and desktop cpu now connected to tv) and have the TP, ONT and modem all in living room beside pc and tv rite?

I don't recommend putting the TP and modem in the storeroom to be honest. Best to have it somewhere where you will be using your com, i.e. room or study room. Home plugs are nowhere near the advertised speed from what I observed. It is good if you need a stable connection when WIFI signal is weak in your home. I have a couple used for my MIO TV in the past, and keeping them as standby. ;)

i put mine at storeroom/bombshelter which is the center of my 4 room flat. i stick my router at the ventilation hole on top. wifi is full bar at all areas except MBR toilet. perhaps need to increase power to get full strength.

Haha, the vent hole is quite a good idea but that is if you only planning to use WIFI only. For some like me, I prefer to connect my main rig to the net via LAN cable. =:p

My home(new BTO) is preinstalled with the opennet TP, and during the "opennet activation" no one from opennet came down for signal check etc.

Viewqwest coming down to my place this evening for ONT installation, wish me luck.

All the best. Pre-installed one probably checked before they hand the key to owners so this part is skipped.
