I booked the installation date for April. Just one question. So they will be doing the point in the living room but now my computer is in my room and I am not using wireless, so I need another point in my room right?

dont be carrot! u can choose anywhere u like no requirement.

exceed 15m = pay $ thats all. nowadays most HDB likely wont exceed unless L-shaped flat and the room is far end.

i print screenshot from opennet FAQ to keep myself safe. because i must have it in my room. my living room already got SCV TV and i got no TV rights there. *angry*

And there is no 2nd Termination Point available at the moment. not until they finish with this first phase of laying the network.

but u can shift the TP at >$200.

Mine this sat. Yours leh? Not going install in my room, at the price of extension, it is a stupid idea to do so compared with 30+cents for utp network cable. And when they rush, you know what that means for the workmanship.

one day before u :s34:

living room no space... :s34:

i will stare at them while they work... :s34: and maybe pics or videos taken...

going to take up fibre plan... that mean got one more free cable point thus no need to complete with others when they want to watch local channels =:p

if they rush and did poorly... i wont sign it =:p

hopefully this time can shorten the cable necessary to connect to my pc... current one is lying on the ground and kept on stepping them or sometimes trip on it lol :s34:

Need your help. I'm still very blur as to how to place the Opennet TP.

It seems most people place it near the TV? Why? Is it because in future it can connect direct to your TV just like starhub cable tv point?

Or will it not be like MioTV, ie, the TP connects to ONT and then from ONT to router and from router, it can connect to Miotv settop and also other PCs/notebooks? If so then it doesn't have to be near tv right?

The reason I am asking is this. If possible, I prefer not to place it near the tv because it entails running the ugly trunking from my main door along most part of the living room before reaching tv area. still within 15m though.

On the other hand, if I can place the TP near the front door there is an exiting network that can connect to all other parts of the house including the rooms and living room (near tv). I can then also place the ONT and router together here. My worry is whether in future will I be able to watch tv if tv programs are streamed from the tp direct to the tv. Btw, my current singnet router is placed here and it connects via network cables to the miotv setop at the tv there.

Another important question is my existing network which has served starhub cable broadband and singnet broadband in the past, will it become outdated and limit the speed of NGBN?

I gather that the TP connects to the ONT using fibre cable, and then from ONT to router, it is still using RJ45 connector and therefore my existing network can still be used(not sure mine are cat 5 or 5e, because all concealed already?. But I am reading that the router is a wireless one? It does not have ports to connect to a wired network?

if possible, can someone post pictures of the ONT and routers so I can see what are the connectors and ports on them? Or are there online pics of these I can see?

Sorry for the long post, really confused. Hope someone can help clear my doubts.

IMHO, i dont think future TV will incorporate a fibre port and the ability to decode fibre packets on it.. :D

Can, no need place at tv, as long as where your central place is, if you have one. Its a 4port wireless n 2TxR router

oh, so it still has the usual ethernet ports but what is 2TxR?

and what about my existing laid cat 5 (or 5e) cables? won't hamper the speed?

Category 5e-1 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)
Category 6- 3 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)
Category 6A- 10 Gigabit/sec-100 meters (328 feet)

wait, do you mean the connection to the miotv settop is via fiber from the ont not ethernet cable? then this is bad for me if i place tp away from tv because it means i have a run a long fiber from tp and ont to the set top which is near tv. am i understanding correctly?

the diff between cat 5 and 5e seems significant right? like that my existing network (if they are only cat 5) may be limiting the capability of NGBN.

sigh, very problematic.

ont to set-top box is through ethernet.

oh, if this is confirm then I am ok because my tp and ont i will place near the main door and from there i already have an existing network cable that runs all the way to the tv there where i will place miotv set top.

but what if i change to starhub cable next time? will i be affected with this present arrangement?

yes cat 5e can support up to 1Gbps whereas cat 5 only support up to 10mbps.
Your existing network is conceal inside the wall?

yes, and i'm not sure if they are 5 or 5e. anyway to check?

I dunno is there other ways to check without physically inspecting the cable.

But in my theory, if let's say u have a gigabit router and u connect ur computer (of course with a gigabit interface) to it and it shows 1Gbps, then this should prove that ur cable is at least cat 5e? :s11:

Yea, theoretically is correct.

Thanks again guys for your patience.

With regards to the pictures above, the 1st & 2nd pics refer show the ONT? Or is that the router? Or ONT=router? It has 4 lan ports so it looks like a router to me but only 1 port is used? I am confused.

In the 2nd pic, i see 3 cables - 1 skinny yellow i presume is the fibre wire to TP, then there is a black power cable and a yellow ethernet cable which goes to MioBox in 3rd pic? So what is the MioBox? Is this the miotv settop? Or does it include voice ip and also internet and router will then connect to this miobox?
