Thanks again guys for your patience.

With regards to the pictures above, the 1st & 2nd pics refer show the ONT? Or is that the router? Or ONT=router? It has 4 lan ports so it looks like a router to me but only 1 port is used? I am confused.

In the 2nd pic, i see 3 cables - 1 skinny yellow i presume is the fibre wire to TP, then there is a black power cable and a yellow ethernet cable which goes to MioBox in 3rd pic? So what is the MioBox? Is this the miotv settop? Or does it include voice ip and also internet and router will then connect to this miobox?

The 1st 2 pic is the ONT and only Port 1 can be use.

Cant help u on the miobox as i'm using M1..

is it strictly only 1 port can be used on the ONT? Because that means this one port connects to router and from router there are connections to other PCs/notebooks and also to the mio tv set top?

Or from the ONT, one port connects to router and another port connects to miotv set top or any future tv set top?

This is really confusing but I must get it absolutely right as it has implications on where i site my TP.

ok, thanks. then I only have one option, ie, to site my tp, ont, router everything near my main door because I have all my network points there. The router will connect to all these network points, and from there they connect to every part of my house.

Now still need to determine if my network cables are cat 5 or 5e. sigh.

miobox is a wireless router.
it got 1 WAN port and 4 LAN port

from the ONT port 1 it will have a LAN cable to miobox WAN port.

miotv setup box is not shown here. a LAN cable from miobox port 2 or 3 or 4 will be connected to the miotv setup box LAN port.

ic, miobox is already the router.

then how come in shafie's diagram above there is still a netgear router in the set up?

ah, thks. much clearer now.

Essentially, this is no difference from my existing set up which is using miotv and singnet bb. At my front door, a telephone line connects to my aztech router which in turn connects via my concealed network to the miotv set top at the living room and the computers in the other rooms.

With NGBN, it will be the TP to ONT to Miobox and then to TV/PCs. But I am just curious, why the ONT can't be built into the Miobox or something? After all it seems the ONT only serves to bridge the TP and Miobox (router). It would have been different if the other ports can for eg be connected to tv set top directly but as it is, only 1 port is to be used.

mayb in future the miobox will accept a directly fiber input from TP ? not sure..

the ONT is suppose to allow someone to subscribe to diff ISP. like port 1 on ISP1, port 2 on ISP2.. etc..

it is less likely, as the TP is suppose to act as an entry point to your house.
ONT is supposed to be a common platform for all service providers so as to avoid any use of proprietary device by anyone ISP which will disadvantaged any new ISPs entering the market....this is the case now where Singtel and Starhub dorminate their respective infrastructure.

but now singtel already got their own ONT ..

So does that mean if I subscribed to say Starhub, they will issue one unit of the ONT for me and from there I connect via network cable to my PC?
ya
not really sure for SH. mayb they will force user to use their RG(router)

TP -- ONT -- RG

TP -- ONT = fiber

ONT -- RG = CAT5e cable.

just install mine today...

workers on time... saw 4 people lol... extra one people suddenly...

one stay outside... one stay inside do... and another one should be the higher position personnel...(this one much friendly... write down the details and take pics)

then suddenly another one help outside...

took slightly more than 1hr...

wondering why they calculated at 9m... while i calculated and measure at almost 6.50m... where the rest of 2.5m go to?

decided to install one in the another room with scv cable point (at most get a longer lan cable connect)... wanted to install in my room but then worried as have to drill two holes into the old wood that support the aircons... unsure how they respond to the vibration...decided less risky route lol...

not bad service... got clean up the mess and some holes i got to use blue tack to cover lol...

use old trunking mixed with new trunking...

scv connection still working and thus no dmg to it neither to the other wires or floor got dmg =:p

got certain ranges but unsure if it good or not lol

check with you guys who have installed. the workers used nails to fix the trunkings? my neighbour told me so and some nails cause the wall to chip a hole and very ugly.

i would have thought they use sticker type trunking. when i installed miotv, the worker use trunkings that stick to the wall and so far so good.
