PC New Build Questions!

Hi Senpai, 前辈, all buddies and fellow enthusiasts,

My 3770k DIY PC is 8 - 9 years old now and mobo is dying, so I've been reading various threads in HW clinic to pick up the latest knowledge as I plan to start a new build.

I need your guidance and help with the below questions, I'm really a newbie, this is going to my 2nd DIY PC and the 1st was assembled by Nigel from PC Care. So here goes...

1. Already preordered 12700k + Aorus Pro Z690 bundle. Do I need a separate soundcard? Currently using a ROG Formula mobo, quite happy with the sound quality.

2. DDR5 Ram... aiming for 2 x 16.. out of stock everywhere.. what to do ah?

3. GPU - reusing 980TI as I am seldom gaming nowadays. Would this be a problem?

4. Case - Should I get factual design meshify or define?

5. SDD - what's the better brand/deal to get now? Looking to get 2 x 1TB and reuse all my old 2.5 SSDs

6. Cables - what doesn't come with above and I need to get separately?

7. AIO or Cooler? What to buy?

For Air: Noctua D15, NH-U12A, FUMA 2
For AIO: Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360

I have no idea if local manufacturers brought in the bracket yet, I doubt the coolers listed on our local market come with the LGA 1700 Bracket.

There will be some hassle, no doubt.

Contact and ask from the manufacturer or distributor, if have the respective bracket first then purchase accordingly.

Worse come to worse, flip the CPU on carousell.

I read somewhere that ddr4 3000+mhz will be good enough since new gen ddr5 is usually not good on launch... is that true? I am aiming for sth like TS's build and was aiming for ddr5

1) No need for soundcard, down the road you can consider DAC or sound interface depending on what speaker you are using.
2) Wait few more days for review, if you can't wait than get Intel 11th gen.
3) Not sure about 980 Ti compatibility with newer board, if you want to reuse best
let the shop test for you.
4) Case is up to you.
5) Seagate hard disk are OK, SSD wise depends but recommend consolidate into a NVME SSD.
Take note for new motherboard best to reinstall OS as even though you can plug in and use.
However it is not for best stability or performance down the road.
6) Cables?
7) Depends on your budget, most concurrently CPU cooler that is sold in the market will definitely need a new bracket for 12th gen.

So in short if you can wait than 12th gen, if cannot wait than 11th gen.
Cuz a lot info about 12th gen we don't know yet so only few more days than we will know.

For cooling you can just go down to sim lim and have a look. See which you prefer, air or water cooling. For Noctua, you can buy them off Amazon, cheaper a bit, esp if you got prime. I never bother with water cooling so i got my Noctua air cooling HS from amazon.

What is your take on liquid Vs air cooling for CPU? I've read mixed reviews and am still confused if liquid is a necessity. I've used a cosair aio for my current pc but I never knew if it was necessary.

- Liquid vs air cooling, liquid will have better temp than air-cooler.
- Liquid cooling have lifespan for the pump so after few years have to watch for
high temp or noisy.

So these are the factors you can decide, I will recommend air cooling.
If down the road any issue just change the fan.
Liquid cooling wise if it wear out have to change the entire unit.

Just reuse back your current AIO. Check with the manufacturer if they sell mounting brackets and if your AIO is compatible with 1700 socket mount or not.

Can but like others mention check if there is support for the new socket.
As well as check if the temp are OK as well as any noise.
If you have done any cleaning to the old AIO opt to do maintenance for it.

Get air duster from Challenger and brush away all the dust on the unit.
