Hi fellow engineers,

Does anyone mind sharing with me their report for the professional interview for reference? I just need to know how to write it the correct way, I am the only one taking the professional interview in my company, don't have anyone to take reference from.

Or don't mind sharing with me tips on how to write the report for those taken the interview before.

I am probably taking my electrical interview next year.

Thank you

For report, besides telling what how you should be qualified as a PE (basic boring stuffs), we are more interested in your problem solving skill. Illustrate some of the problems you come across in you course of work, like contractor not following your design or drawings, what is your solution, draw your constraint on site and how to work around it. Your solution should take into account of safety not compromised, design intend still meet codes requirements, meet client requirements and with minimum cost and time implication to the contract. This is just one of the things you can included in your report. I always encourage my engineers to write weekly or monthly journal in their course of work so that they can remember what happened along the way and not wait for 3 years later and start to write the report. You may forget what you have done after so much. In fact IET has good journal format, you can download as reference.

As for interview. Half the time we will be testing you on your problem solving skill based on your specialize knowledge. How you react to changes? What kind of solution you propose? What is your consideration? Basically vast importance shall be based on safety first then compliance to authorities and codes. My fav is on the PTW, why you need it and how you go about doing it. What happen if someone is not using it? Do you accept a SMS as PTW?

Also, be frank honest in your reply or answer, if you are not sure, just declare that you are not familiar, but you know where to get the answer and guidance from. We are not looking for Super Engineer but engineer that are resourceful, able to seek and provide sound solutions.

Hopes that’s help.

Thank you for the tips.

I have shortlisted a few problems that I would like to put in the report but how do I know what I put is not too simple or complex? I heard that it the problem is too complex the interviewer might not get it or it it is too simple, they might deem you not suitable.

Can I check what is PTW and SMS, I can't find it under the competence element/performance indicators?

Once again, thank you for the help.

What I am referring is Engineer's personal journal. IET or rather previous IEE used to publish a good template on that, Regret that I could not find the copy online anymore. But nevertheless PEB template is quite good however you need not follow it strictly. You may take some reference on the guide from EC submission and IES' CEng submission as well. Will be useful in your later career upon after getting your PEng and move on to be Chartered. I got my Chartered immediately after PEng using the same report's content. Then ACPEng as well.

Hi, may I know how is the final PE interview like? What is the format like, do they ask questions related to the PE report submitted? What kind of questions do they ask, and how would you recommend us to prepare for the interview?

Thanks in advance! :)

How long does FEE results get released? Don't think I saw any estimate in this thread for any of the disciplines.

Do advise seniors/老大s! Thanks in advance.

I think better switch to Mech consulting firm if you aim to get registered as PE. you are required to have design experience to sit for PPE and under supervision of a PE. Besides that, you are required to prepare PE report with project experience under PE supervision.
