I used to stay on the top floor too, 17th, pool facing. I can hear the splashing of the arms from the person who is swimming freestyle in the pool from my balcony when it's quiet at night. It is that loud.

Was that person swimming a competitive swimmer Michael Phelps meh? I am surprised level 17 can hear, it is only a 1.2m pool depth, unless he really swims very well I can’t imagine Level 17 can hear

I thought If above 20 floor u cannot hear anything from road noise, speaking from experience. Didn’t know that it can still be heard at 15 floor high..

could hear road (CTE) noise from the 25th floor of a condo I viewed at Balestier.

sad to say high floor without anything in front to block the noise is even louder

Our ears are very sensitive to changes in relative noise. For example, if you try to talk in a noisy coffee shop, its very difficult to hear the other party even when you are shouting. While if you talk in a library, everyone will ask you to shutup even though your voice is very soft.

Therefore at higher floors, transient noises (eg. glass breaking, swimming, horning) are very obvious because your ambient noise is very low. While on the ground floor, transient noises are very hard to hear as your ambient noise level is already very high.

If you are asking which (assuming no noise control is done in the first place): a 5th floor unit or a 15th floor unit at penrose on the PIE will lose their hearing first given both stand at balcony for an extremely long period of time, definitely the 5th floor unit.

😮 then maybe low floor would be better given that I think the carpark acts as a buffer again the road noise at Penrose.

All I can say is that NEA dictates clearly that all new Residential Development must undergo Noise Impact Assessment. All facades of the residential building must comply with ensuring no exceeding of 67dB while all unit indoor noise level must not exceed 57dB with all doors and windows fully open. Penrose is definitely subjected to it.

Sorry, I don’t agree with this part, shouldn’t the 5th floor one be less noisy compared to the 15th floor, given that there is the MSCP in front of the building to negate the noise volume.

Got money buy higher floor. No money buy low floor.
Very simple and straight forward.
Why every floor rise 10-20k got reason one.
Hdb bto also same. Private also same.
If money is no longer an issue, sure get penthouse ma.

Yes, my apologies I did not phrase myself properly, I agree with you, what I meant was if there was no MSCP to mitigate the noise impact, then 5th floor would suffer much worse than 15th floor.

To get a good gauge of noise intensity for Penrose, I took a google maps image of PIE leftmost lane facing SUO.

The noise intensity is determined by the number of noise sources with line of sight to the recipient, as well as their direct distances.

In the case of the lowest floor (A), we can see that there is limited line of sight from most noise sources as its shielded by the MSCP while (B) has direct line of sight. However (B) has a slightly longer direct distance than (A).

Does this mean that (B) is noisier than (A)? Highly Possible, but it wouldnt be so easy to make a conclusion as we need to see the other lanes as well

However if we take findings from studies, they find that noise magnitude declines exponentially with distance, tapering off at around 15 stories in height. Hence its highly possible that 15th floor is far less noisy compared to (A).

I did a test along corridor near my block facing a traffic junction of a busy main road with no object deflecting the noise.

Out of curiosity, I conducted a test lol.. I jus took level 5, 10, level 15, level 25for comparison, the noise is relatively more audible at level 10 than 5 but less so at level 15 but at level 25 u literally don’t hear anything. So I would agree that it could be noise decrease exponentially.

i wonder what the virtual showflat tour will be like, being hosted by the agencies.

we already formed out comments and opinions, quite instantly, when we saw the model via the URL given.

:s13::s13:

anyway, i think these are propnex revised estimates. some numbers are official, some are further estimates. posted just for discussion. dont flame me

whats interesting is they speculate(?) that the lowest psf stacks are actually NOT the PIE ones, but those facing the car ingress/egress ... if that's true, then ... well, so much for the PIE shaming haha
