Please recommend notebook/ultrabook for home usage

Windows XP is much faster than Windows Vista.

Yes because something went wrong for vista so I delay getting it. I use vista 1 year then windows 7 out so i quickly get Windows 7. New OS do play a part in your speed and so do hardware or the specs of the notebook. My friend tried using same specs using different os and there is different in speed and that is why we keep upgrading our specs and os. I guess my friend is right as my company also change com at least every 3 yrs.

try loading Windows Vista vs Windows 7/8 on a same spec machine

you will see the problem lies with the OS.

More often, the specs will boost it but if a crappy OS is being loaded in... we all know what will happen.

True, it takes 2 hands to clap. Both OS and specs. That is why I discourage people to buy notebook with old OS. New OS provide new features and security.

No K55 there and price of ASUS K45 is higher than PC Show 2013. $799 without RAM upgrade. Waste time going down.

alot of the OS updates are "security" updates to cover up potential loopholes which are vulnerable to viruses and hackers...

hardware specs will,keep improving with technology... in fact OS alway find it difficult to keep up with hardware improvements...

your good specs might differ from others.

to me a good specs does not require a GPU for my preference.
to others a class 1 GPU is necessary to be considered good specs

I think specs of ASUS A55 consider quite good specs. I went gain city expo sales and surprisingly no A55 and even K45 selling at higher price than PC show 2013 so I am getting ASUS A55VJ at Comex Show.

I went to the gain city sales. Didn't buy anything in the end. Felt that the price and free gifts not as attractive as those offered in quarterly pc shows. Gonna wait a month or two for the big sale then buy.

Strongly agreed. Not many people buying too. Only a few not so familiar with the prices get it. 5-8 Sept so a bit less than 2 months to wait. Lucky I still have a netbook which is for on the go usage. Temporarily use netbook while waiting. Ahh ahh.. . . .

Honestly during big fair like Comex the price will be a bit cheaper for middle range notebook and low end notebook or ultrabook. Usually got free ROM upgrade. For high end notebook or ultrabook price usually same same as normal day except sometime got a bit more free gift or free upgrade of RAM.
