What the Cybermind receipt indicate on warranty?
Nothing was mentioned about the warranty on the receipt itself.

bcos all the few ppl that recommend hardware build in hw clinic all prefer intel / crucial

True this..bcos all the few ppl that recommend hardware build in hw clinic all prefer intel / crucial

I bought a plextor m5 from fuwell and it keep crashing and crashing with windows 8. Tried on 3 different systems all same problem. 100% confirm is hard drive problem. Dont know if i got lemon set or its just not as reliable as i thought.
Are you using it in a laptop?

Has anyone used this on their laptop before?
I ran AS SSD benchmarks and my score was 556 (around half of other scores posted online) and transfer speeds ~250mbs (half of plextor's advertised top speeds). Intel Rapid Storage Technology says my SATA transfer rate is only 3 Gb/s.
My laptop is a fairly recent model (Apr 2011, Sony VPC SB18GG), so I assume it should be capable of 6Gb/s transfer speed.
Crucial's website also states my laptop supports SATA 3-6 Gb/s speed.
I tried calling Sony Support to verify but their "technician" doesn't even know what I'm talking about.
Anyone installed on laptop before and can advise?
Thanks!![]()
Run cpuz to check the mobo chipset, then google for the chipset spec.
This model should be running Intel Sandy Bridge processor with HM65 Express chipset. I believe it should be capable of SATA3 speed, unless Sony did not implement it. Not sure if this is a driver issue.

You purchase your laptop immediately after Sandy Bridge processor was released?
This SATA3 bug only happened to the first batch and Intel did issue a massive recall for that. Therefore, I believe all manufacturers would have recalled the affected batches as well.
A hardware problem, in which the chipset's SATA-II ports may fail over time, cause failure of connection to SATA-II devices, though data is not at risk. Intel claims that this problem will affect only 5% of users over 3 years, however, heavier I/O workloads can exacerbate the problem.
Intel stopped production of flawed B2 stepping chipsets and began producing B3 stepping chipsets with the silicon fix. Shipping of these new chipsets started on 14 February 2011 and Intel estimated full recovery volume in April 2011.
Options ranged from swapping for B3 motherboards to product refunds.
Sandy Bridge processor sales were temporarily on hold, as one cannot use the CPU without a motherboard. However, processor release dates were not affected. After two weeks, Intel continued shipping some chipsets, but manufacturers had to agree to a set of terms that will prevent customers from encountering the bug.
Yes I believe so, almost immediately.
I'm most probably the first batch then, but didn't know of Intel's recall. Sony also did not contact me for any recalls. Would you happen to know where to find Intel's press release for the recall so I can read for more information?
From what I understand from overseas threads on this issue, people were blasting Sony for removing Sata 3 support after the Bios update. So I'm presuming Sata 3 did in fact work before the update.
I'm not sure about other laptop manufacturers; not all models back then (Sony included) supported Sata 3 so it's a non-issue for some. The contentious issue here is Sata 3 was initially enabled on this particular model, but became disabled after Sony's Bios update. Hence many users were upset.
If the reason to disable Sata 3 was really related to Intel's recall, and Sony chose to limit I/O loads instead of replacing the affected motherboard, then I am even more disappointed with Sony's aftersales support now.
Btw, I have a USB 3.0 port. It should be working cos transfer speeds are much faster than the other 2 USB 2.0 ports. Haha
