What the Cybermind receipt indicate on warranty?

Nothing was mentioned about the warranty on the receipt itself.

Most of the hw recommendations are based on flavor-of-the-month parts.

I was one of those who were sucked into the Memoright FTM plus SSD hype last year.
That SSD was crap! (and even mis-leading product line).
Was all too happy to get rid of it.

I have an existing hard drive with windows 7 installed. I am thinking of reformatting the drive and changing the OS to be installed in plextor Pro SSD and the old hard drive as a storage drive. How should I do that? I am a noob in these. Do i need to change any bios setting?

I bought a plextor m5 from fuwell and it keep crashing and crashing with windows 8. Tried on 3 different systems all same problem. 100% confirm is hard drive problem. Dont know if i got lemon set or its just not as reliable as i thought.

Has anyone used this on their laptop before?

I ran AS SSD benchmarks and my score was 556 (around half of other scores posted online) and transfer speeds ~250mbs (half of plextor's advertised top speeds). Intel Rapid Storage Technology says my SATA transfer rate is only 3 Gb/s.

My laptop is a fairly recent model (Apr 2011, Sony VPC SB18GG), so I assume it should be capable of 6Gb/s transfer speed.

Crucial's website also states my laptop supports SATA 3-6 Gb/s speed.

I tried calling Sony Support to verify but their "technician" doesn't even know what I'm talking about.

Anyone installed on laptop before and can advise?

This model should be running Intel Sandy Bridge processor with HM65 Express chipset. I believe it should be capable of SATA3 speed, unless Sony did not implement it. Not sure if this is a driver issue.

I have verified and it is HM65. No issues with the physical hardware. Problem lies with Sony - they removed Sata 3 support after their new BIOS update, because it makes no difference in speeds for regular hard disks. However, in this age of ssd popularity this presents a real problem for upgraders. This affects (at least) all SA, SB and SC models, worldwide. Unless you flash and revert to the earlier bios version nothing can be done at this point. People have contacted Sony regarding this matter but it has fallen on deaf ears.

Moral of story: Do not buy Sony Vaio if you want to run ssd on Sata 3 at 6Gb/s speeds. It's simply not possible, unless you flash your bios (at the very real risk of bricking the laptop completely). I'm just helping to spread the word; hopefully Sony will respond when enough people stop buying their laptops.

That is poor support from Sony. I believe they messed up the BIOS update therefore, causing this issue. But to be honest, the best part of an SSD is the response time, so you can still enjoy the fast response even with a limited transfer speed. Just enjoy it man.

By right, suppose to support up to 2ports of Sata3 6Gb/s.
?? Does it supports USB3.0 and How many? {Intel chipsets does NOT integrated with USB 3.0}
Usually, it comes with:
- 1 Sata2/3 port for CD/DVD reader/writer
- 1 Sats2/3 port for 2.5" HDD 5400rpm {You replace to SSD}
-?? USB3.0 ports support {for connect ext. HDD, etc with super high speed}
-?? Media Card Reader support {USB 3.0 speed if you use a 95MB/s card}
No issues with the physical hardware.
But Problem lies with most Brand's maker (NOT only SONY, others also) does NOT enable the Sata3 6Gb/s on the maker's BIOS for Intel 2nd generation mobile CPU + chipset.
{So Sata2 speed for your replace to SSD from 2.5" HDD}
-??Hours on Battery, CPU speed(low on battery, high on AC supply), temperature/heat/Fan, etc.

I'm most probably the first batch then, but didn't know of Intel's recall. Sony also did not contact me for any recalls. Would you happen to know where to find Intel's press release for the recall so I can read for more information?

Glad to know that you're still enjoying your Plextor instead haha, I actually think the difference of running it on sata 2 and sata3 is very minimal as it is like what others have mentioned, we are more towards the responsive time than the transfer speed itself.
