if he was already shortlisted all these while that means the basic requirements have already been met. Do note that this is a role that favours the young/fresh graduates, unlike some jobs that prefer years of experience and hard skills under your belt. So it actually comes down to how you convince the interviewers you have the traits they want, as well as some luck.

Well, what I am trying to say is hard skills are not as favoured as soft skills (it is open to fresh grads after all). So even if you are many years at your current workplace and gaining experience in say, programming or accounting skills and knowledge, you might just lose out to a candidate just out from school who used to be an officer in the army and the captain of his CCA club.

To put it simply, they have a hard on for "leadership" qualities. The kind where you lead a platoon like in NS. So suppose you were a sgt or worse, a man during NS and now you are a manager at your workplace with 5-10 employees under you, you will still be at a disadvantage as you have not had an entire platoon under you before.

I think whether you lead a small group or a whole platoon, it does not matter that much. To me, what matters more is your character and how you would lead if given a leadership role. Furthermore, any organisation needs a good balance of leaders and workers, so not everyone has to be a leader.

But this is just my 2 cents worth, Im not a recruitment / manpower officer so I may be wrong
