guys ..noted on the poly fair ... they are selling 15.6 inch lappy ... is it really a need to buy a 15.6 inch ? Will 14" lappy suffice ?
No, it is not required to get 15.6 inch. In fact, most students carry 13-14 inch laptops.

Has anyone considered Acer? Just ordered an Upgraded Acer VX15 at SP today. Add $200 and u get 16gb ram, 1tb hdd and upgrade to GTX 1050 ti. Price after upgrade is $1569. Isn't this more worth it than the Asus GL553? I get a 256gb SSD instead of 128 and also get 1050ti. Saw so many people purchasing the gl553 today and quite few from Acer. Is Acer a bad laptop brand or something?
thanks guys .. anyone bought online from Hp singapore before ? saw a couple models that are affordable

I guess Acer is just not as popular so not many people buy from there.
Hp is very established in the midrange computers which most people own so many have heard of the name before.
Asus has made their name by pushing computer tech further with their high end stuff.
But Acer? People rarely hear that name.
But are Acer laptops actually okay?

Since you have gotten it, I would suggest forming your own opinions on it and gradually learn to trust your polytechnic side kick rather than start this journey second guessing it.
They are a major pc manfacturer with over 20 years on the market. Rest assured that there is undoubtedly a certain level of quality control. Sure, there is a delta x of quality standards between brands - but you have to take note that baseline reliability standards are already quite high to begin with.

Well said!
Sorry if I caused anyone to doubt their laptop purchase![]()

Actually that is a really value purchase.
I got myself the HP Pavilion 15 though. The lower weight and still reasonable price is of great value to me![]()
which pavilion 15? i intend to get my uncle that cheapest pavilion 15 for my uncle. but over his budget and his requirement for a backup laptop...
No you did not, dont apologise for that. You voiced your opinion and there is nothing wrong for doing so.
Here is my take on brands in general.
No one brand on the market has line ups which are way better than other offerings. Even within a particular line up, there are bound to be some flaws and issues - such as a bad batch of batteries, or design flaws leading to dislodged hinges. In the manfacturing industry revisions to the model are often done to rectify such flaws.

Even among users, there are bound to be different opinions and user experiences. A particular user A, might get a lemon unit on a highly reccommended make and supposed "highly reliable brand" - due to drawing a bad silicon lottery and as a result has issues.
So in general while certain makes are perceived to be the jack of all brands and second to none - they might be - but not all the time. A company which had issues in the past may have improved its processes tremendously and deserves to be given a chance to prove themselves.
Therefore, what I advice all (students) to do is to get one within your course requirements and within what you can afford. The most expensive offering does not mean that it is the best and most reliable. Laptops sold through the institutions are priced based on catagory and based on specification requirements.
They are most probably also screened through by the school based on check lists when tenders are called* (*made an assmption based on experience)
Should you encounter technical issues, the 3 years of on-site warranty and the school's technical IT help desk will cover the rest.
