Actually I share your views on this as well, not only for laptop, but also for smartphones.

These Fast Moving Consumer Electronics Goods are often pushing engineering limits, and also have to take design considerations, components specifications etc to rush out a product that would (marginally) pass authorities checks so they can push out the product quickly to one-up their competitors.

Can we be sure that for the same brand, will a new model have the same reliability and sturdiness of the older model? I have my reservations.

I personally prefer to buy more "standard" weight/size/thickness laptops as manufacturers are less inclined to push physical constrains at the expense of durability and reliability. I think that is a better indication of quality than brands.

Very true. Anyone remember the note 7? :s16:

Got that for myself, thought I could slot in another WD HDD inside, but it did not come with the required connector and will need to get from HP, which cost around $60

On a side note, it was a pain in the ass to open the back cover :vijayadmin:

Hoho...this is something new to me. Cos i though that their new pavilion 14/15 already comes with the hardware. To fit that extra hdd. That's why i wanna get such model for mu uncle. At least next time i can just help him upgrade the ram, ssd and hdd. Btw is their SSD a sata mode or pcie or nvme? (Badically what im asking the m.2 interface it can fit.)

That is how the industry is in general.
New product comes out, new product gets reviewed, new product gets sold. Many a times it is hard to have a true gauge of reliability and usefulness of features over a period of time.

Laptops used in academia is a useful benchmark of reliability cause of sheer numbers purchased as well as the conditions which these laptops are subjected to - being dropped accidentally, bumps of travel, strain on components etc.

That is if you get it from poly roadshow. If its from HN, GC etc, I believe the connector will be there, esp if you get the ssd+hdd model.

PCIe Nvme - Samsung MZ-VLW2560 model

If you wish to add the 2nd hdd, if I am not wrong, bottom left should be for the sata hdd connector.

i'm currently having a dilemma between asus fx553 and hp pav 15?
anyone can give suggestions on which one to get?

I have gotten the HP Pav15 while my cousin have gotten the fx553.

Good thing about the HP is that it is lighter by 300g, has a faster RAM, and is a PCI SSD.

For the Asus, you get a better value because of price, and the merchant actually allows you to pay by credit card (which may even further reduce the price). You also get a USB C port, which the HP doesnt have.

Really up to the individual :)

Oh yes, I find that the 2.5kg of the Asus is fairly bulky. Also the charger of the Asus is also fairly more bulky compared to the HP.

Suggest you decide on site which laptop to purchase :)

Hows the pavillion 15 when it comes to light gaming like csgo? Heard people say that HP suffers from overheating and stability issues. Is this true for this laptop?

I played DotA a maxed settings, fps can still hit 100-120. Csgo should be no problem.

About heating and stability, currently no problem.

My choice would be fx553... reason is simple, HP is renowned more for its printers & desktops while asus is more well known in the labtop world(i guess)
Well, i feel if u're using your lappy more for work/projects,doing research & watching streams online getting hp pav15 would suffice. It can still do a bit of gaming like dota 2 & League of legends but i feel that it tends to overheat easily as compared to fx553.
On the contrary, if u're using more for gaming & heavy multitasking then go for asus. It's as w1rbelw1nd said more value for money as you're also killing 2 birds with 1 stone; u can game & also work with your asus labtop at the same time as compared to pav15.

Not sure how you get this idea. But HP has always been a big laptop brand. They are consisntently the top, if not the top 3, laptop brands in terms of sales volume.

I strongly agree with you that it is a big laptop brand. It has onsite support. I am also using a HP 15-bc010Tx laptop now. For ASUS you have to bring it to the service centre and collect it back after it has been repaired.
