Feels like it. When i chat with the Lenovo live chat, they were rather unresponsive and not so sure about their product. As compared to using the chat system at Dell which was rather helpful

That is the distribution flow; agents promotes their products for manufacturers. What the agents offer on top of what the manufacturer’s promotion is at their own discretion.

Most agent sales persons are incentive driven, those who are professional and solution driven with a heart will not survive in this particular line in the organisation. All are generally told to meet the targets only. Comparatively, SLS is still consider mild to its counterpart in Hong Kong where the competition is much tougher.

$1500 for laptop can get a fairly decent model, provided not insisting on light weight

Looking for laptop for my son as he going poly this year. Recommended laptops for Poly 2020? Should get from the Poly vendor or buy outside myself? Anyone buy Asus from poly before? Is the warranty ok?
Currently they selling the Asus S412 with i7. Processor and 12gb RAM, 256gb ssd + 1Tb HDD. Price is $1500. WOndering is it a good deal? But seems to be old model, cant find it on Asus website?

I Guess buying from the school has more subsidy/discount compared to buying from outside. Asus is a good brand, warranty wise is best if have extended warranty(like 2+1 or best is 2+3).

But then i suspect this S412, the motherboard inside doesn't look like S412 as S412 max ram is only 8 GB and processor is only up to i5 based on the model S412.

Its pretty decent price but could be lower.

Maybe i could be wrong if based on the search. ASUS S14 S412.

If have a picture or brouche, maybe we can know more

Side note: Laptop for poly also depends on which course he is going to be studying. If IT or infocomm, he will need more than this as there are programming codes that needs processing. Like last time, when i bring home to do the programming and website design, 4GB takes about 5 - 10 mins to compile based on my computer specs more than a decade ago. Nowadays, its pretty fast.

If anything, then a base laptop costing around $500 or so, would be more than enough. Laptop with the OS (Win 10).

Anyone had a child in Ngee Ann recently whom required Win base laptops. I am not sure what programs they run but currently have a Macbook and not sure if Parallel is sufficent rather than buying a new system just for the course.

Base on Ngee Ann website too general for Intel based systems for Biz Accountancy. If for Engineering the requirement would be way higher.

With the great feedback from the bros over here. Ended getting an Ideapad S145 frm Challenger and zhng memory to 20 gb. Pretty much decent I guess for that course that would not need much specs even for presentation and the weight just nice for everyday carry for females.

The best laptop for a student is one that has zero capability to play games, period.

I gave a relative an imported ARM-powered Chromebook so that he had no way to wipe out Chome OS and install Windows. Which also means he has no choice but to use it only for work and studies.

Schools are not game centres.

I am for Asus too. I got an Asus Vivobook not too long ago (last month?) on Shopee, got some Million Dollar Discount thing ongoing. So got it at about almost $200 off, the discount is still on btw. And I really am liking my notebook so far. It's small so easy to carry around, and also the specs are all pretty good, defo worth the price paid la. Besides it has everything you need, like all the basic specs you need for a school/work laptop.

Tbh, 8th gen and 10th gen not so much diff. Anyways both i7. The difference in ram and having an iOS screen would be a difference. It might be more useful to have IPS display during group work.

This approach is just an exhibition of control and giving you a false sense that you know best.

If they are school going age then they should learn to make decision. Who are we to say that gaming in school is a bad thing.

In our days we play basketball or soccer in school to past time. Now they game. No difference. It is okay as long as it is not excessive. Last time students are also not in proper attire when they play. I am implying that they dun need a full gaming laptop. A relative lightweight laptop with light gaming. I find it acceptable. In the end it is they who are using it not us. We should set the budget on what we can afford. They should learn to make their own purchase decision. If they can go Poly they are at a age that they can protect our country. Give them more due credit.

I learnt sine, cosine and tangent from games.
The best laptop would be the one similar to what the School recommend.
I have quite a few colleagues but so far, I have not seen any using Chrome OS. Maybe because my work place use Windows.

So glad that I got the opportunity to learn Windows and Microsoft Office. I don't have a lot of skills in this area but compared with my similar age peers, I am well ahead.
