does it have tp-link tx401 issue where if you restart your PC, your network card will not be detected? only a shutdown and start your pc again to fix the issue

No idea.

For my Ryzen 5 5600G desktop, I am using a cheap second hand Intel X520-DA2 based dual SFP+ 10G NIC (Huawei brand with dual Huawei SFP+ optic modules, total <S$30 from Taobao).

They are the readily available ones.

My two USB4 to 10G NICs also use AQC113 or AQC107 chipset. Basically you do not really have choices for Mac and Laptops (I have two Windows laptop and one Mac Mini M1), unless you use an external dock. Same for mini PCs (with exceptions).

Out of my three Intel N100 mini PCs, only one has dual SFP+ 10G NIC based on Intel 82599ES chipset (going to EOL soon but I am running Ubuntu 24.04 so no issue). The other two only have built-in 2.5G ports.

For my Ryzen 5600G desktop (the only regular size PC I have), I am using second hand Intel X520-DA2 chipset based cheap 10G NIC (no official driver from Intel for Windows 11, has to use older version driver; no issue under Ubuntu 24.04). I have also bought another Intel X540-T2 chipset based cheap NIC (not in use now).
was talking about those PCIE realtek, marvell cards. For laptops , yea I agree there are limited choice.

When it comes to server stuff, I often get from this guy. His pricing is good and items are practically new. I bought some Mellanox 3 cards , and HBA cards from him before.

never know so cheap can get.

There are many Taobao shops selling cheap second-hand server grade stuffs, including 10G NICs (usually Intel X520 or X540 chipset based, or Nvidia/Mellanox ConnectX 3/4 based). Newer ones like Intel X550 and Intel X710 based ones will be a bit more expensive (same Nvidia/Mellanox ConnectX 5/6 based).

Even the X550 and X710 based dual 10G NICs are not that expensive at around S$100 to S$150. Dual 25G NICs based on X710/X810 are at about S$100 to S$200. Cheaper than your TB3 to 10G NIC.

Nvidia ConnectX: 10/25/40/50/100/200 and 400G Ethernet Network Adapters
https://www.nvidia.com/en-sg/networking/ethernet-adapters/

Intel: 500(10GbE); 700 (10/25/40GbE); 800 (25/100GbE) series
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/ethernet.html

My Taobao purchase for example (not an expert so no idea of how good this shop is, first time purchase from this shop so I can not recommend). The shop has many other server related stuff.

Even TB3/TB4 to 25G NIC is not that expensive from Taobao.

1) Single SFP+ Port --> RMB 680

Usually the main stream Fibre internet plan will be around S$30 to S$50 range. In 2028, I think majority of the 10Gbps plan will be around this range (of course higher price plans with better router may exist).

After that the ISPs will need to think to offer niche plans like dual 10Gbps, 25Gbps or even 50Gbps plans, at higher price.

All in all, I am not saying 25Gbps internet plans will come cheap very soon. Initial deployment may be towards 2028/2029/2030 and the initial price may be at around S$150 to S$200 per month range (similar to the price when 10G was launched in 2016). But it may become much cheaper in 2034.

It is too early to say the price now. Now already in this range of $59 if use ONR and even $30 (Simba). But no one can be sure of the price in future. May be $49/mth.

If you have spare PCI-E x4 port then should be easy.
One popular choice here: Asus XG-C100C (Marvell AQC113 chipset)
https://www.asus.com/sg/networking-iot-servers/wired-networking/all-series/xg-c100c/techspec/

Then there are many cheaper choices as well.
Example: cheaper one from IOcrest: IO-PCE113-GLAN (Marvell AQC113 chipset)
http://www.iocrest.com/index.php?id=2415

Tbh, no point get those mediocre marvell.
Most companies went for cloud, Data center dispose their 10G gears, its like the best time to shop for enterprise 10G gears.
Thank you. I will start searching and look into upgrading my PC to support 10G. My contract ends Nov and still can decide if i want to go for 10Gbps plan from simba or continue with M1 but upgrade to 2.5gbps.

Mine is also Ryzen 5600G desktop with 2.5G port. I bought this customised PC via a carousell seller. I hope to be able to upgrade to support it. Yours is on windows 11? I am currently still on Windows 10, are there drivers to support 10G for Win 10?

Windows 10 should still be well supported by the network card vendors. However, you may want to upgrade to Windows 11 since Microsoft may stop the support of Windows 10 next year (14 Oct 2025).

I am using Windows 11 and Ubuntu 24.04 (dual boot). I bought the desktop from Dynacore (Invader PC).

I tried upgrading my pc to windows 11 during the time when there is free upgrade, but the windows update says it's "not supported". Probably will need a clean install than an upgrade right?

Looks like i need to take out my pc to see if there is a spare port for 10g port. But i can remove that 2.5g port and slot in 10g port right?

Probably not. 2.5G Ethernet adapter or even 5G Ethernet adapter may only need PCI-E x1 slot. 10G NIC will usually need PCI-E x4 slot.

As for Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade, not so sure why yours can not.

PCI-E gen 4 x1 can support more than 10 gbps but havnt seen any 1x cards. Fastest 1x card I’ve seen is gen 3 1x for 5gbps.

I have one IOcrest 5Gbps NIC card using PCE-E x 1 slot (Gen 3 for the Ryzen 5600G). Realtek RTL8126 chipset. It works well under Windows 11 but not that good under Ubuntu 24.04 Linux due to the kernel version used.

They have M2 version as well.

Just go straight to 10G, the fee is not that much difference. 2.5gbps is just slightly faster than 1G, trust me , once you download something at 500-600MB/s , its hard to go back.

Understand that Simba 10G service is having lots of issue with users getting very low speed test of 1G+ (based on report here) so better to go for MR $59 with Wifi 7 router or SH.

In Hong Kong, the price for 50 Gbps internet is HKD3800+ which is very expensive.

Not so sure where you get the pricing info. I tend to think this is for business. In that case, the price is not really expensive.

For home users, then it is really a niche plan, only for those who really want to try new things.

At least HKT Netvigator the guts to announce such Fibre internet plan to both business and home.

HKT Netvigator 50Gbps plan, using Huawei 50G PON technology.
https://en.ocworkbench.com/hong-kon...bps-fibre-broadband-to-homes-and-enterprises/

50Gbps router is equipped with two 25GE (25Gbps Ethernet), two 10GE (10Gbps), and two GE (1000Mbps) interfaces, so the maximum upload/download speed for each device is 25/25Gbps. Currently available 25Gbps connectivity solutions on the market require PCs and commercial servers to be fitted with 25Gbps PCI-E network cards, while devices such as Macs with Thunderbolt 4 interfaces can utilize Thunderbolt 4 external network devices, providing the same speed of 25Gbps.

Personally I feel it is good that HK ISPs are willing to try out new things and offer niche plans like 25Gbps and dual 25Gbps plans.

On the other hand, Singapore probably leads the adoption of 10Gbps service compared to HK ISPs. HK ISPs are still mainly offering 1Gbps and 2Gbps/2.5Gbps services now.

HK 1Gbps service pricing is competitive. I guess they do not have the base cost from NLT. However, 36 month contract period is long.
HKD 78 = S$12.93
HKD 118 = S$19.55
