Project: PrometheusCU

Since I'm new here I figure I should take a moment to tell a little about myself.
Me name is Jesse Lang, I'm a 20-year old Film School Grad, and a graphic designer/motionographer by trade.

I saved my pennies for over a year in anticipation of this project. So-far I've put well over 500hours into it's design and construction. With those hours comes the HEFTY price tag of about $9849.63USD so-far...well above my initial budget. Because of this I'm pretty much teetering on the brink of poverty - but with a smile on my face over what it'll become in the end.

In the end the case will sport many custom CNC machined solid copper components.

A custom watercooling system provided in part by AquaComputer.

3 Computers in 1 case:
1- The watercooled main system running Windows Server 2008
2- The watercooled Pico-ITX system running Windows Home Server with a custom built front end GUI. This will control the watercooling of the main system and also function as a media jukebox.
3- The embedded Alix 2c1 Linux firewall/router running pfSense. This will act as a wifi card/router/firewall.

And an elaborate lighting system featuring about 100 White LED's and a custom built lighting controller.


I'm putting every ounce of my skillets and cash into this project so I hope you all enjoy!

Sorry for the lack of updates as promised but I broke my scroll saw and I can't find any metal blades for the replacement saw I purchased.
Also I'm bloody fed up with my machinist and his constant excuses so I'm hunting for another free tooling source. I know quite a few people with the equipment... I just have to get them excited enough over PrometheusCU to lend a proper hand.

Things are coming along, albeit slowly.

MIPS has re-engineered their RAM Freezer 4 for me to fit my Dominator RAM.

Corsair is tracking me down some naked Dominator sticks.

My machinist is MIA, so I"m going to step up and do all the cutting myself now... and I'm starting this Sunday working through to Tuesday.

I've got Watercool Germany on-board now. They've generously offered to provide some waterblocks from their new 'Heatkiller' V3.0 lineup coming at the end of October. With this addition I'll be removing the D-Tek Fuzion and perhaps cooling the motherboard as well.... which calls for another Aquastream XT pump IMO.

I'm very very excited about this - I have to give some credit to ModSquad as I've never heard of the Watercool Heatkiller before he posted the image of one of their blocks in his CopperHead mod. Suffice to say I fell in love and had to have them.

I HAVE UPDATES.

I spent two days learning Rhino/Visual Mill/ToolPath then I spent the last day cutting (actually I'd call it 'watching the machine cut').

I admittedly went though a couple of 1/8 bits but I expected to break a few. The machine took just over 10hrs to cut the parts out (damn grills!). I've not yet started cleaning the edges of these prototypes but I'm doing that soon.

I'll let these teaser pics speak for themselves.

HERE are the aluminum prototypes that once filed/bent/installed will be replaced with finely machined copper.

I started with some 1/2ply wood and a scrap 40"x40"x1/8" hunk of aluminum.

I then booted up rhino and prepared the parts for cutting.

Holes were drilled for screws to hold the aluminum down.

10 long boring hours later:

Some of the cuts look a little wonky in the pics but all the cuts are straight and clean - they just have quite a bit of burrs that need filing down - which I should be done by this weekend.

I've still got lots of deburring to do but I did a couple pieces quickly.

A quick and dirty test fit, everything looks to be really well measured. They fit perfectly.
