I would say that if you are intending to get one online, there are better retailers out there than Blue nile. I think is the worst amongst those that I have contacted when I made my purchase. But I learnt something good about them today. The $50 dollar credit back for resizing! Haha

By the way, there was a typo is my previous post about them.
"the b&w images does not showcase the diamond clearly."

There are mix reviews of Bluenile.

Blue Nile Reviews @ Truth About Diamonds

The reason why Bluenile don't give photos is because they don't inspect the diamonds that they sell. In a way, they blindly sell whatever stocks that comes to them, without analyzing the diamond at all as their focus is mass selling. Because of this, they have zero quality control over their stuff, cos it never physically passes through their hands.

There have been reports of bluenile diamonds being hazy, milky or brown. Some diamonds can have these attribution due to their properties. Unfortunately, these attributions will not be shown on the certificate.
Usually jewelry shops won't carry these kinda diamonds cos the customer is there to see the diamond. So where these diamond goods ends up is usually places like Bluenile, where people can't see the diamond before buying. It can be a hit or miss kinda thing.

Bluenile Signature is not the same as Super Ideal!! Their Signature range is only based on the proportions... it's the same as just using the HCA calculator only. The GCAL report is actually BY Bluenile. It's just like an extra piece of paper that Bluenile make themselves.. There has been questions raised over the report and gemelogists in the US described the report as useless cos it doesn't show more info or say anything more about the cut.

As everyone agreed. Specs look good. Have you seen the diamond in person? Any scope images to share. Sometimes, specs on the cert alone may be misleading, but specs + scope + seeing the diamond means that you will most likely get a good stone!

Hi all,

New to all these. Good read here.

Got a quote for a round diamond hearts and arrows ideal cut with the following specs. Can anyone advise?

Depth % 61.5
Table % 55.2
Crown Angle 34.6
Star 54.0
Pavilion Angle 40.7
Crown % 15.5
Lower Girdle % 77.0

Culet Pointed
Fluorescence Negligible
Girdle Thin to Medium Faceted

Thanks in advance!

They say they have certificates. Not sure in-house or 3rd party though. Its from the "Solitare" collection. Not sure about other details though, quite new to this so didnt ask them much.

It really depends on what you are looking for. At this price, I would that it is comparable to private jewellers (assuming that this diamond is at least a GIA triple ex). So if you are comfortable with the Lee Hwa Brand and trusts them, go ahead and make the purchase. otherwise, if you are looking for better specs and not branding with the same budget, you will have to look around. I suggest that you at least visit a few more shops and observe their diamonds to make comparisons. At least you have more examples to reference your diamond with.

from my own experience... the first time I went to look at diamonds after reading a lot of articles online. I have no clue at all how to differentiate a GIA good from GIA excellent in the same shop. I also seen a D diamond and a H diamond and I couldn't tell them apart unless I flip it over and compare them side by side. So even our eyes need training to identify a good diamond. Or perhaps, I was a bit of a slow learner and less perceptive.

If going for branded, I would rather go for Tiffany, Cartier, etc.. I wouldn't consider Lee Hwa as "branded".. Tiffany is just abit more expensive than Lee Hwa.. might as well pay abit more for a better brand.

If only better brand = better quality... but somehow this is not the case for diamonds.. to tell the quality, you still must use the diff scopes to see the diamond, no matter the brand.. though JP's super ideal cut quality seems to be the most consistent.

Maybe you can't see the difference because of the strong lights? These shops always use very strong lights to blind people.. I think if you show me a swarovski crystal and a diamond under strong lights, I also won't be able to tell a difference :s13:

had my appointment with JP.
Representative was Michelle , any comments with her?
she explain well enough for me but never really introduce me other cuts other than brelia and super ideal.

Any recommended guys other than michelle?
Any other things i should be observing?

i am choosing between 0.3-0.5 carat, D or E, VVS1 or VS1
Although not significant difference in D or E.

Appreciate comments, hehe

Yo Bro, after the 2hrs crash course wif JP, u r now more knowledgeable than those SA at LH or SK or GH n even the big T le... :p

Not familiar wif Michelle so no comments abt her sorry... Maybe for the size u r looking at, they only hve the brelia n RBs? Try asking her to show u the other cuts at yr next appt :). Also curious why VVS1 or VS1 not a VVS2 or VS2?

Talking about Scopes, does anyone bros here knows where to get a ideal scope or ASET scope locally? I do not want to get from idealscope.com, now usd exchange rate quite high.

yea i would say its VVS1-VS1 then haha.
actually initially looking at 0.4-0.6 but my gf was saying bigger size 1 doesn't really look sleak and elegant on her small hand.

looking at similar design as Agete jewellery in japan.
Any comments between the consultants in terms of services and expertise?

Bro, don't think besides idealscope.com there is any other local shop that is selling the scopes. Dunno if JP or some bro here who has bought before can t-loan or not :s13:

actually initially looking at 0.4-0.6 but my gf was saying bigger size 1 doesn't really look sleak and elegant on her small hand.

My first appointment was with Michelle last week & she had a bit of an attitude. Couldn't be bothered to explain anything about diamonds & was very unwilling to pull out the different shapes I requested to look at. She didn't really pay any attention to us & kept playing with her phone. Perhaps I look too young to be serious about getting a diamond + bf gave a very low budget of around 2k to see what we could get at that price. LOL

We just went for another appointment on Friday with Casey with no idea what shape I wanted, & he was super patient with me, going in & out of storage to bring out the different shapes & different sizes. I think he made at least six trips! Also, he was nice enough to pull out their latest stock to find a diamond with my ideal specs. IMO bring your gf to pick the diamond at least. I originally wanted only a .35 but it turned out that a .4-.6 gives me the finger coverage that looks good to me. Modest enough to wear proudly on a daily basis. For reference, my finger size is 14(asian sizing). Go asap if you are getting a Brellia cos their stock just came in & I already got mine. =D So happy with what I got~

If you are planning to buy without your gf, I would suggest erring on the side of larger. Not that bigger is truly better, but because girls can be brutal bitches. One of my friends got a .23 & her friends keep commenting that it's too small & cheap. It really bothered her because they think badly of her fiance. No matter what, they are still her friends. And even though you can always upgrade later on, there will only be one proposal ring.

IMO brellia is very elegant & royal. JP also has princess cut & angel cut. My white balance is also quite developed from all the photography I do so I start spotting yellow from F onwards (I know, my poor bf right? Hahaha!) Just enough to register as "not quite white".
