 are you implying that preppygirl is stirring things up? since you brought this up, the same can be said of some posters in this thread who keep mentioning jp. after this preppygirl saga and if it turns out to be true. probably a couple of those posters might be ppl frm jp thmslves. :D

it makes me wonder how many people had walked away with less than ideal diamonds when so many people here keep mentioning getting "ideal diamonds" or how they qc diamonds

Actually those who keep mentioning jp are old members in this forum. People like you always are new posters with 1-2 posts :s12:

been following this thread for a while and decided to post.

really? wow? looks more like damage control here. i saw preppygirl asking for pictures of the diamond and seeking opinion for the diamond that she bought.

i could have imagined her posting her pictures here only for the rest of the forum members to scrutinize the diamond only to find out that the diamond isn't as ideal as it was claimed to be. the damage in reputation would be bigger. the "raving" reviews seem to say that jp carry ideal diamonds blah blah. really? how did this less than ideal diamond got sold to preppygirl.

PreppyGirl, could you describe the day and experience when you first went down jp? it sounds like you were misled by their staff.

"The lady who served me isn't very good with engagement rings, only wedding bands thus the situation". sounds like a lame excuse to me. it sounds weird that a staff is only specialized in selling wedding bands in a jewelry shop. if i want to buy a matching band to the diamond ring then must look for who.

i would have imagined that if Preppygirl didn't bring this up in the forum, she will probably be walking away with the 0.48 diamond.

i am looking for a diamond ring myself and is considering going to jp for a look but better go prepared. who should i look for who when make appointment

Well it was last saturday that I went to the shop, we had made a appointment beforehand at 2pm that day. Our plan that day was to just buy our wedding bands, the engagement ring can come later or so we thought. The lady Amy, she recommended us a few wedding bands, I thought her service was quite good because she was very patient and we got a good deal afterall for the wedding bands.

Than while my fiance went to pay for our wedding bands, I thought I can ask about the engagement ring at the same time. Ok I have to say that at this point I had no intention of purchasing an engagement ring, just want to know more only. She recommended me initially a 0.42 F VS 2 diamond with setting about $3k+. I know nuts about diamonds at during that time so when she told me to look at the scopes, I have no idea what to look for seriously and just assummed it was good because its colourless and sparkly.

After that I remembered my friend telling me that when buying diamond, buy in the range of 0.41-0.49, the difference won't be as high unless you go above 0.5 so I asked is there any diamond like 0.47 or 0.48 as these are almost as close to 0.5C. She said she has and went to get this E colour VS1 diamond 0.48 and told me with the setting it will be $4.1k~ She told me to go for it because its a better colour and clarity and the difference is only $900.

Again, I have no idea what to look out for under the scopes and when I saw the GIA cert, the Clarity characteristic listed feather as the only inclusion. I asked what that is and she told me, feather is an inclusion I shouldn't worry about as its one of the better inclusions to have as we can't see it in VS1 and shouldn't pose any problem.

Only my fiance had the problem with the yellow tinge of the diamond but after she showed us what it looked like in the sun, it appeared colourless and he was also fine with it.

After that I was led to the machine to check the diamond's number and anothe girl told me that the price I was quoted by Amy was a really good deal. Amy herself also said its because we are buying wedding rings at the same time thus she can offer us this price, otherwise the ring will be above $4.5k.

That was what happened that day. I tried to be as descriptive as I could. Just got my scope pics from Jann for the new diamond, will upload it later.

Hhmmm.. Hard to say. Their explanation seems valid to me.. But maybe preppy can tell us the whole story. But one thing for sure is that they seem to be the most honest ones out there by their willingness to share. This has won them many supporters who recommend their services to others.

Naturally, other competitors try to ride on them and take opportunities. When I was looking out for a diamond in this thread, I was pmed to buy diamonds at xxx places. So I wouldn't be surprised at constant new accounts to stir things up here.

Anyway, I've never heard of Amy before... Only Jann, Paul, David and Casey.

I'm not stirring things up, I have the invoice to show. However I did find it strange that I was served by her after coming to this forum because most here are served by Jann, Paul, David or Casey, that's why I asked was anyone served by her before.

However her name card show's the logo "House of Hung" instead of JannPaul. But when we went there, she told us we were her 2pm appointment under JannPaul.

Please add in the "http" if you wanna see because my post count does not allow me to upload links :(

These are the scope pics that Jann sent to my fiance today. The diamond looks a bit yellowish though in the first pic if its suppose to be an E colour.

Yup, since if u have the pics, no one will pay $500 deposit just to stir things yup. Unless JP is really viewed as such a threat.

In reply to ryanlpc - I wouldn't really be surprised if there're some accounts employed by JP here...but if we're viewing forums with mistrust, then maybe we should not even come to forums. End of the day, it's up to how u choose to interpret what's being said...same goes to choosing a diamond.

That is surely JP's super ideal.
All the scope images look fine and the Hca score is within JP's Super Ideal range.
Not to worry on the first picture Actual051EVS1GIA7112863706.jpg, E color diamond should not exhibit a tinge of yellow as they are the 2nd highest color grading, plus it is a GIA certificate. If the color bothers you, why not get a D?

I think I know your situation =)
You made an appointment for wedding band. You need to look for the boys Casey, Jann, Paul or David for diamonds, that is why people strictly have to make an appointment for diamonds.

For my session, they went through with me all the details and how to assess the scopes.
Update us again tomorrow after your session =)

Hwz has one of most tech savvy and smartest forummers in Singapore, we
can filter out crap and discern sense from nonsense.
It is easy to filter out fakes from real posters.

For example, PreppyGirl is here with legitimate questions and neutral vibe, ryanlpc is here with 1 post creating an uproar with so much negativity. Numerous times this has happened and they have been exposed. If you can't filter who to believe and who not to, look to old members with high post counts.

Wasn't referring to you dear :) It's easy to tell the real and the fake ones who come in here with an agenda. They used to create new accounts to directly promote and review themselves. They still do it but in a more subtle and indirect way now. But you still can sniff those out.

My advice is like what Dawnmin said.. Look out for the new and old posters and those that has been active.

Diamond 1: 0.61 F VS2
HCA Score - 1.9
Fire and Scintillation - Very Good.
It's most likely to have light leakages cos of the high HCA score. But you should check it with the Ideal and ASET Scope to confirm. Also use the Hearts and Arrows scope to confirm if it's a true hearts and arrows diamond.
Depth is 62.5%, which is too long... which further suggests of likely light leakages.

Diamond 2: 0.70 G VS1
HCA Score - 1.4
Scintillation - Very Good.
The table is 59% which is wayy to much... I would say it even exceeds most Ideal range.. Very wide table causes light leakages too..
I would avoid flat carat sizes like 0.70 carat... At least get a 0.7ct++ or 0.6ct+ . Not a 0.70.
I would also stay away from Fluorescence... it makes the diamond sparkle less and in a different color when your outside under the sun.
One more thing is to note is the feather inclusion. Make sure it is not on the girdle!!

It's always best to look at the diamond under the Ideal/Aset/Hearts and arrows scope. The HCA score is good to use, but it's still not very accurate because it leaves out a number of facets.

Guys, let me know if I left anything out :)

My experience today:

Was given an intense tutorial on diamonds. I think we sat there until 7.30pm even though the shop closes at 6.30. I think I zoned out after like 2/3 of the tutorial but my fiance enjoyed it. We were the last to leave lol.

Turns misunderstanding was because my appointment initially was for wedding bands and Jann told us for wedding bands, they don't draw the line between House of Hung and JannPaul, that's why Amy was the one who served us. Wedding bands the diamonds are too small for any certification thus there's no need to differentiate between HOH and JP.

And it really turns out the diamond offered to me last Saturday was from House of Hung, not JannPaul. I guess he realized the fault because I emailed Amy also whether my diamond is the common ideal or super ideal. He said he didn't want his customers to go off without knowing about the super ideal especially when diamonds are expensive and we did specifically ask for him. Plus he said locals normally will want the tutorial.

After that he asked whether I still want the diamond Amy offered me or his with no extra charge. Of course I said his lol. However I was still bugged by the colour of the diamond. He brought out other diamonds with colour D,E,F,H and told me to compare. Actually I can't tell the difference between the 4, even the D looks yellow to me :s In the end he laughed and said there's no colour better than D only man-made diamond can be white but can tell its fake. Seriously he told me no need to upgrade to D because it's 15% price increase.

I think I must be one of his most difficult customer because after that I complain I don't like my setting anymore. He say he can change it for me if I want. Than I told him I like square designs actually and than he said ok show me the cushion brellia. He showed me and I liked it straight away because I don't see the yellow tinge there and its more sparkly plusit's square which I like. So he said ok give me the cushion brellia instead of the previous super ideal if I want it. The cushion brellia is 0.532C with the same specs! I asked him its more expensive right and we are willing to pay more for it. He said ya about $300-$500 more than super ideal but never mind he will absorb and give me the upgrade FOC! So I actually went from a 0.48 non-super ideal diamond to a 0.532C cushion brellia with no extra charge.

And he is going to design my ring also because I said my previous design a bit too complicated. However after a while I got used to it but still he said its ok he will still design the ring for me which I described earlier( wanted a halo around the main diamond with side diamonds surrounded by the metal rim of the band) and if I still want the previous design than just let them know, no problem at all.

I rate their service 5 stars!!!! Will post the cert of my brellia when I reach home.

superb

went by Jann Paul with my wife-to-be today and was attended by Casey. very nice and patient person who willingly imparts all his knowledge to us. He was very friendly and we felt really comfortable unlike stepping into those branded shops.

although we had no knowledge on diamonds, he explained everything clearly and emphasizes the importance of what to look for in a diamond. He showed us diamonds in different scopes, compared with other diamonds, even under different lighting! It felt assuring knowing what you are paying for. the session took almost 2.5 hrs! i hope we didn't eat into his next appointment timing :s13:

the diamond my missus chose.

Cushion Brellia
Color E
Clarity VS1
Carat 0.562
Price (might be too sensitive to post here)

when i reached home, i realized what he initally showed us through the scope was the round diamonds. When we decided to get the cushion brellia, i totally forgot to see the diamond we chose through the scope! i felt quite uneasy not able to see it personally through the scope but he will send the pics via email soon.

do you think its weird to go back just to see the diamond in the scope? i mean once its set i cant see the hearts and arrows anymore

highly recommend them! 5/5 !

No I don't think so, its a customer's right to be sure they are getting what they pay for. I believe they will be very willing to oblige. Otherwise I wouldn't be getting what I have now from them. Besides, I'm going down next saturday again to confirm my design and it will be my 3rd time.
