Mine was 11150 with setting. There was 0.83 VVS1 E selling at 11k plus without setting. Being a typical consumer, i chose the larger carat as i cant really tell the diff between slightly lower clarity and color from naked eye. Moreover it was cheaper.
Hee, so i was lucky that my appt was earlier than yours if not you might have taken the 0.9.

I wasn't introduced the 0.83 ): maybe it got sold again before my appt again lol. yea, my so and i wanted carat over colour and clarity since they are not visible with our naked eyes too. yea youre lucky cause i think if my appt was earlier, i might have gotten yours as prior to my appt i already had in mind that i could go as low as G and VS2 in exchange for a larger carat size but sadly, E was the lowest i was showed that day. but im still loving it anyhow :)

anw, you gotten your scope images already ? sam's pretty quick though.

No leh, my guy told me the scope images will be ready probably in a month's time. I am ok with it la. Not in a hurry. But still feel sad that i could not get a 1 carat diamond within my budget cos it seems like above 1 carat is the norm nowadays.

Saw 1 carat at Lee Hwa briefly but forgotten the specs. Did not look impressive to me. Probably their lower range. Going for 13k plus which is within my budget but the diamond just does not glow. Poh Heng's 1 carat plus got 1 selling for 27k. Specs impressive but price much more impressive.

The lee hwa one u saw, probably wasnt super ideal cut. I saw tian po 0.7++ ct super ideal is already >16k..

So that 27k for 1ct plus quoted by poh heng, is probably market rate for these retailers

Then JP's 1.1 carat at 17k+ is a steal.

I see a lot of you guys bought your diamonds from JannPaul. Enquired about some diamonds and found the prices rather steep compared to Canary.

0.686 G VS1 - price: $5,500, cushion cut brellia (price without setting)

0.637 F VS1 - price: $5,600, cushion cut brellia (price without setting)

How about Canary? Anyone with any experience with the canary diamond co? Prices are more competitive and service is awesome too!

0.64 F VS1 - price: $5000, brilliant round triple ex including setting

0.73 F VS1 - price: $6200, brilliant round triple ex including setting

0.7 E VVS2 - price: $5100, asscher cut include setting

does Canary educate u on diamonds?

Are the last 3 prices quoted by Canary? They are very similiar to JP's prices...
I think most of us here buy from JP because of the service provided n not simply because of pricing

Have you seen the diamonds personally? Checking it personally would be the best, be it with other shops and etc.

BTW you are comparing 2 different diamonds ;-)

You're comparing different types of diamond.
Either way, Canary doesn't carry Super Ideal Cut diamonds either.. the cut quality is not the same as Jannpaul.

The most important in my opinion is CUT and ofcourse proportion, symmetry polish and blah blah goes along since we are going for diamond because of its brilliancy given the fact that it's the hardest stone.

Color, Clarity and Carat will go beyond and depends on your preference. As I have learned, comparing a .46ct ( exaggerated ;-) ) to .50ct in terms of the size and by merely looking at it, a good cut diamond will make the .45ct looks bigger and comparable to .50ct. Why I say color and clarity will be a persons preference? because as the color and clarity gets better the price also is going better ;-)

An excellent cut diamond plus a very good color (D-G) and clarity (IF-VS2) is the most sought after.

But dont be deceived by 3EX diamond, I learned a lot from this forum about proportion and everything. Having an excellent cut is never enough ;-)

Tx.. I read like 50 pages liao... and have a better idea.. slowly reading the older posts... reading too many at one go just gives me a headache :s22:

What's the average size that people get? Or is it a budget and preference thing?

Yup, as Hollander said, Cut is the the biggest factor.. IMO, you can sacrifice abit on everything but the Cut.

This illustrates Hollander's point about Cut making the diamond look bigger :)

Now I see why people rather get a better cut diamond that a bigger carat..
When compared, it looks like the same size and the better cut one is even more shiny :s13:

I actually did have a mate that bought a 0.97 D VS2 from Canary at $9700 last year. Their normal setting is only $200. Not super ideal though.

i guess its more like see what ya budget allows den work backwards in terms of cut and carat size, give and take etc. i believe majority of folks make their purchase decision this way or maybe thats just me?

Now I see why people rather get a better cut diamond that a bigger carat..

actually this is quite true, you walk into any chain retailer shops, be it sookee, leehwa, pohheng etc etc. they usually will push you to their signature diamond collections like brilliant rose, destinee or hearts on fire which has better cuts, more facets to better reflect the blinkyness versus their normal collection of diamonds.

for example, comparing a 0.4 diamond from brilliant rose will look almost the same size as a 0.5 from their staria collection. but then again the BR rock also cost much more than the 0.5. JP or other independent jewelers is prolly offering you the best bang for buck without the need to spend alot of market branding dollars and translate the cost savings to you.

just my 2cents. FYI i bought from sookee previously my engagement ring, now abit regret. :(

iyo dont be sad bah. im sure your .9 would look nicer and probably bigger than most 1.0 out there. can always upgrade after a few years :)
