Hi guys, I've visited JP twice and was so far quite pleased with their service and expertise. However, like smellytoi, I'm a bit skeptical after reading all the praises on this forum. Sometimes, too much of a good thing can result in an opposite effect :s22:

Before I finally give in to the $500 deposit, would like to ask if you guys can recommend another jeweller that can be comparable to JP ? Just thought that it would be best that I do a little more homework first. I won't consider online websites cos I need to see the physical thing before committing to a 4 figure sum.

Actually smellytoi has already given some review on his visits to Lovis and Whitedwarf a couple of pages ago... so you can compare his review to your own experience with JP or you can also visit them to compare for yourself. Just my 2cents :D

Thanks a lot for your help. Pmed you.

Just hope to ask 2 questions (did not want to ask in pm as hope to add knowledge to this forum)

1) saw that jp is the super hot shop in hwz. Was thinking aloud that I should not buy from them with a 2k budget because what I will get is a 0.2carat as I find their stone very very nice but steep for its price
2) went through many pages and no one talked about bluenile. Are they not recommended? Any reason for that?

1) 2k is really a Good budget, you may want to inquire to them to give you the best advise ;-) mind you, I guess it would not be .2carat ;-)

2) we got few from this thread who bought from BlueNile, im not sure about the delivery charges, plus you can only see the diamond images no opportunity to see it in person, but BlueNile itself have their own reputable name in online diamond community.

3) .70 and .40 is really far... size wise...im not sure how thick the prongs are of .40 that makes it really bigger than .70...or .70 is really steep and shallow that it only look like .50ct.

for the prongs, some prefers the classic 4 prongs to make the diamond float, some choose 6 prongs to make it bigger (by the diameter including the prong??) and secure.

Thanks bro. U googled hca and realised they suggest a diamond of hca below 2. Just raising a concern whether the diamond you recommended is too high? Of course I understand with my budget it hard to get one that is big and have low hca. Thanks

I suggest two more, HCA is only a guide, the best is the scope images which I think Blue Nile is limited, White Flash have the scope images of their signature diamond.

If you have chosen a diamond, post here the proportions or the gia grading report, our bro''s here can help you.

Stock Number: LD02031330
.40ct F VS2 3EX GIA Blue Nile Signature Ideal 1,529SGD
HCA of 1.1

or

Stock Number: LD02031331
.42ct F VS2 3EX GIA Blue Nile Signature Ideal 1,560SGD
HCA of 1.3

Thanks bro. Must likely will get the 0.42 one as I remember you said that do not get numbers like .4,.5, etc. Anyway just curious about one question, why is the ring setting so expensive compared to singapore retailer? I always thought that 400buck can get a diamond and setting in local retail. At least for taka(which I know is bad

Hahahahaha

Yes specially when its 18K above, usual in the US is 14K. Actually when you purchase your diamond in a shop they will give you discount on the settings, other Bro's here says a shop is giving the setting for 200 only, other is 500. it will even be expensive if it does have a side diamonds.

But if you walk in to shops and ask them for the settings alone it will be 600 and above, im not sure about the labor charge of mounting your diamond.

sorry one more question as I am now adding the diamond to cart.

wouldn't a classic 6 claw be better than a classic 4 claw? Unbelievable 6 claw is even cheaper.

And also in Singapore, people will usually buy 14k white gold or 18k white gold? Which is better?

it depends on your preference Bro, for me 4 prong looks nice ;-)

about the gold, here what Is common is 18 WG.

Think thrice before committing to buy ;-), involve your miss so that later both of you are happy.

Hi Guys

Just spent the last 3 weeks hunting for a diamond ring. While I must say, knowledge wise, I'm still far from many experts here, I'd just like to share my personal experience on some of the places I've been to:

1) Tiffany & Co
I was initially drawn to the brand. But as I started reading a little more about diamonds I realised their prices are overly priced and horrified to hear that they'r diamonds are not even certified by a 3rd party appraiser. If your spouse insist on the brand, do get them at the airport so you wont have to pay GST

2) LH and GH
Nothing much to say about them except their prices are more reasonable than Tiffany but the staff is generally novice. Very limited choices cos their diamonds are mostly mounted on the setting.

3) Canary and Larry
Staff is more professional and more choices of loose diamond. However they seem to have limited knowledge on the Cut and seem to emphasize that Triple Ex is good enough. Both have a tendency to recommend something slightly above your budget though.

4) E-Clarity
Amanda has a unique method of presenting you with 6 choices based around the spec of diamond I requested. By doing so, she has proven that (read: to the human eye) the most obvious is the carat, followed by the color , cut and clarity. She was however, quick to diss some other retailer's "gimmicks" on symmetry and light leakages citing that it is not obvious to the human eye. The best form of ensuring the good scintillation is to maintain the diamond. In a way, I do agree with her opinion - they are practical. Best of all the price she quoted are the lowest amongst the retailers I've surveyed.

5) Jann Paul
I think enough praises have been said here about their service and professionalism so I'll skip that. If one simply cares about the 4Cs and 3X, their prices are not the cheapest (more ex than eclarity and Canary). But if you are someone who is particular about HCA, light leakages, symmetry, fire scintillation, or like myself, buy into these fanciful "gimmicks" that JP has presented to you during introduction and youtube videos, then you will know that the premium for the eventual product is well justified.

After 3 meetings with Aaron and several back and forth emails, I eventually took the plunge on a 0.75 F VVS2. Kudos to his patience and service :D
