Hi guys! I've been lurking around this thread for sometime and is looking for a diamond proposal ring. Have been to JP for some viewings too... but the specs I'm looking for and the price does not match up. (I'm abit of a max value for the money paid person)

These are my ideal wants:
Carat: 0.65-0.79
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Cut, Symmetry, Polish: Triple ex..
Budget: 4-4.5k max for the diamond...

The price goes up to about 7k++, I understand that JP diamonds are ideal cuts but given my carat needs can I request for them to source for something with less than ideal cut? Due to this, actually I have been looking at diamonds online. Anyone else brought in from online stores before?

Also, apart from JP, where else do you guys think I should go shop locally for my diamond with the current specs?

About 2 weeks ago i was quoted 4.8k for super ideal cut 0.61ct G VS2 by JP.. it's slightly above ur budget, but for diamonds up to 0.69ct i dont think it will go up to 7k..

U can also check with vivo diamonds.. from my experience, their prices are slightly lower than JP..

I'm keen in this diamond from bluenile. I like blue fluorescence diamonds. I'm thinking if I compare 2 diamonds side by side, I may be able to tell the difference between a super ideal and an ideal 3ex GIA diamond. But if I have only 1 diamond, then a grade lower than super ideal is ok for me I guess.

I can't post links so here are the specs

Carat weight: 0.86
Color grade: G
Clarity grade: VVS2 - pinpoint
Cut grade: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Strong Blue
Depth: 61.8
Table: 57
Crown Angle: 34.5
Pavilion Angle: 40.8
Star Facets: 50
Lower Girdle Facet: 80
HCA: 1.4

Bluenile is unable to provide scope pictures :(

If this diamond is brilliant on it's own, I will be quite happy with it as it's 5.7k for a 0.86 whereas a 0.72 F color VS2 diamond will cost 7.2k from JP, that is a savings of 1.5k

JP brought in this diamond for me to view yesterday and it's so pretty. The diamond is super ideal cut but they are unable to classify it as super ideal due to the blue flor. He brought the diamond outside and it glows blue immediately with only sunlight reflected from Liat Towers. Beautiful!! Sam said he put the diamond under 1pm direct sun and it became VERY blue :s13:

I am very impressed with JP's service and Sam is excellent. I am considering having side diamonds on the ring but he suggests that I don't put side diamonds as they won't be blue flor and the whole ring won't be pretty. If I just want the diamond to stand out, it should be on its own on a simple setting.

If anybody is considering buying a engagement diamond ring, I will strongly recommend them. They are not sincere and pushy, they are knowledgeable and their prices are reasonable. Buying from online bluenile or jamesallen websites doesn't mean you'll save more. The same diamond was also found on bluenile and if I bought this diamond from bluenile, I would have saved only $150 compare to buying from JP and JP throw in freebies eg 4x replating, 4x resizing, lifetime cleaning and polishing etc.

Thumbs up for JP and Sam.

Hello!

Congratulations on getting a wonderful diamond!

Could you share how much JP charge you on the ring, compared to bluenile.sg price? While I am aware that JP can import diamonds from overseas, I am not sure about the price difference we have to pay. Of course, we must bear in mind that for most online retailers like bluenile and JA, we must pay GST + a token sum(admin fee) to Fedex.

If the $150 is a small amount compared to the price of the diamond, then it is very worth it to get from JP. Resizing and replating cost about $30 each time I think.

I know diamond price jumps when the carat hits 0.70... You can try getting a 0.65-0.69 one to save money.. 0.70 will be boh hua unless you for got the 0.7x+ range.

Some bros here have asked JP to source for diamonds less than ideal cuts before. Apart from JP, I think the next best alternative is online shops if budget is a constrain.

There are other shops other than JP who sells diamond at less expensive price... Vivo diamond and eclarity are some examples. They are not overly expensive, just that most of us prefer JP for their service.
