More facets can be more shiny cos got more surfaces.
But less facets can be more shiny in a way cos it will have larger surfaces.
So it is see which type of shine you want.

To determine better cut is to see the light performance of the diamond.
Example: check for light leakages, symmetrical, etc..

To check for the light performance, you use the ASET scope, hearts/arrows scope, etc..

I have seen 0.3cts in AGS before. Maybe yours was a different cut like a higher facet diamond? That's why the price is high. 4k can get a 0.4cts Solasfera which is something like the destinee royale but with higher facets

My one actually has less facets compared with standard round brilliant cut, cause there is no bottom facet. Rather it is a sharp tip. So it is the craftsmanship? I have no idea.

Hi all pro...

I'm planning to buy a diamond ring for proposal. Reading many good review about jp here. But my budget only around $1500.

Did JP sold good diamond ring with this price range? Any suggestion? Should I go mart jewelry outlet to buy or go JP?

Any suggestion?

IMO, mesmerizing sparkles -> solasfera
big bold sparkles -> super ideal

They will have the actual diamonds for you to compare.

The cut patterning plays a part too. The arrows makes the contrast in the diamond for the bling effect. If a diamond is a full complete red (light return), that's also not good because it will look bright but boring.
That's why at some parts you see the arrows lighting up too to have that black/white/black/white effect.

Why not you just ask them and compare. I think $1,500 should still be able to get you a decent diamond ring from them.

Price seems to be about there.. 0.5ct is usually about 3-4k.. but of course varies with the color and clarity combo.

Oh... JP also sold low budget diamond ring like $1500. I thought JP only sold diamond ring like $3000 or above

Guide for fellow guys

guys, I have been reading up and going to shops for viewing, so I hope the following guide would be helpful for your decision..and fast track some knowledge..

I think the most important thing is budget. Think of a figure and stick to it. For example, 3.5K

First consideration - cut.

Cut is most important factor because a diamond is called a diamond because it sparkles, right? So yes, choose the one that has the best sparkles. Ideally, it should be triple excellent. Because any less, light will not be reflected back to your eyes and technically less sparkles.

With that in mind, retailers exploit (my opinion) the term, cut. They come out with fancy names called ideal cut, branding their diamonds as celestial, brilliant rose, etc etc. Then price these much higher. For the trained eye, yes, perhaps you can see the diff. Heck, if you concentrate as a amateur, you might probably also see the diff. Under the scope, you sure see the diff. But do you normally have intense stare at a diamond or bring a scope around seeing diamonds on other people hands?

What i suggest is you go down, and see personally with your naked eye, which you personally prefer, and decide. I think they are just about as shiny, I am amatuer, so is my gf..

size and colour

Size is important because thats what the bitchhes bittch about. It also makes you feel good, and really 0.3 0.5 0.7 is one level by its own. For 3.5K, i can get 0.5, which is "half carat". feels gd, looks good. Color has a difference, so I would stay at colourless range (D, E, F) Like i say, look with your own eyes, for some people, G colour is okay, but just not me. Personal pref.

Clarity

You can see no shiiat, with normal eyes. So to get the best value, I will look at VS range. SI is just psychological to me as it sounds pretty shiity, so I would take VS, but wont go up to VVS.

Most important

THe eyes is more important, then the scope to confirm you are technically right in case your eyes can see no shiit. Choose a rock within your budget, and look good so that you buy happy. End of the day, your gal wont be using a damn scope to look at what you offer...she will probably bittch about the size, and if she is the real bittch, she will bittch about names like brilliant rose, celestial, or even tiffany..

I have chosen mine, gd luck to you!

Guys, care to shed some light.
Am I able to get a 0.5ct, colorless, VS range at JP with 2.5~2.7k?

it's quite unlikely? i bought a 0.53 G VS2 from JP at $3.5k+... perhaps you can try asking for their ideal cuts instead of super ideal.

Hi all, just a quick one regarding the settings - I opted for a classic setting but without the tray because it was really nice. Will this affect the diamond safety in any way? JP assured me and said that with or without the tray it's not much of a difference.. :s11:

Thanks! Anyway what would be the best credit card to be used for payment for the ring?

Any insights?

anyone can share their opinions on the scope images?
the forth image, the center of the diamond appears greenish. is it suppose to be full red (no light leakage)?
