Proposal Ring - Part 2

Hi guys, new here. I'm looking to buy a proposal ring and saw you guys posting alot of pictures of your diamonds, those colorful ones. How do I get them?

Any advice on what I need to check when deciding? Is it just make sure gt certificate? My budget is quite humble arnd $2-3k. Saving up for BTO

You mean the scope images? Those are to check the performance (brilliance) of the diamond.

For certificate, stick to GIA or AGS. They are the better ones. Personally, I prefer AGS over GIA, but that's just my preference.

Most people will recommend you to go for a minimum 3 EXC (GIA) diamond.

Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Excellent

It's a good start.. but there is still much more to it. There are many 3 EXC out there that are still badly cut even though it shows "Excellent" on the cert. Don't just follow the 3 EXC blindly. To make sure you're getting a good 3 EXC, you can follow these steps.

1. Make sure the proportions are good.
How - Use the HCA tool
Holloway Cut Advisor | HCA Tool | PriceScope
Aim for a score between 0.4 - 1.5

2. Make sure it has good light performance
How - Use the Ideal and Aset scope to check. This is the colorful scope images you saw.

3. Make sure it has nice hearts and arrows
How - Use the hearts and arrows scope.

Anw, couple of qns which I hope you guys could share with me:
1. Understand that there are some brands which aint probably worth the effort to take a look, which are the jewellery shops that you guys typical visit then?
2. I know what diamond I intend to get, but the ring setting is giving me a headache? Any designs that you guys have in mind when I want to go for a simple, elegant look?

Here you go! Nice design. Rose gold seems to be getting quite popular now.
Your diamond specs are fine.. it's your personal preference. Personally, I think VS2 is good enough but for color, I prefer an F. I can see a slight difference between G and F. But I know some people cannot see the difference and this is just my own view.
An advantage of getting a lower color is you have extra money to increase the size.

anyone can help me with this - I think my gf will love something like this.. How much does this cost?

Just collected my ring from JP few hours ago. Geezz... Caught in a bad jam on PIE and took almost 2hr to reach. But at least they were willing to wait for me even thou I reached 10min before store closing time. Thanks to the folks at JP.

Unfortunately for me my ring was delayed, went down to choose diamond on the June 28 and finalized the setting the next day. Only got the actual ring on Aug 24.

Delay was also due to prong-ring off in alignment, hence requiring further adjustment but wasn't rly impressed when the person who attended to me totally forgot the delivery date he promised which further added another week onto the already delayed ring.

1. There isn't a "shop" that is not worth your visit. You never know what you can find out there. Best is to walk in any stores and look see everything you can. From there do your research online.

2. Google classic solitaire diamond ring. Take note of the ones without multiple diamonds on the band.
Cartier & Tiffany's design by far is the simplest and most classy in my opinion. Those designs are widely available in most stores since they are the classic ones.
Any potential retailor that you visit, show them the design and work from there.

If I'm not wrong, JP's Super Ideal cut HCA must be below 1.4. 0.1 stricter. Lol

But the HCA is only applicable to the 57 facets round. Other types of shapes won't apply. Safest is still to use the scopes.

Yup. Got check in from time to time.

I was told the ring is ready for collection. Made the trip down and realized the misalignment myself (odd they did not spot it when QA is part their motto). Told them I need it by end of the week latest which is coming Sunday, 7-8 days later. They confirmed with me ring will be rdy by then. But called on Sunday and the salesperson totally forgot abt the deadline. So another week was added. Total time took to correct misalignment became 2 weeks.

How high you want the colour and clarity? I'd be more particular about the cut. It can make the diamond look bigger and "whiter". To me, clarity is the least important. I think 8k shld be able to get .8ct around there..
