I went to a few shops and tried.. the hca score was around 3 on average.. some even 4+.. Hardly any even below 2... The lowest I saw was 1.7.. but the clarity out of range...

Some "branded" shops don't even let me see the cert. They say buy already then give me the cert.

I can't get pass the first step of low HCA score.. can skip this step?

No, don't. Its the basic tool to choose a nicely cut diamond, too many not so great diamonds are being sold in "branded" shops. Most of the shops out there just carry whatever they can find to sell you. You can really tell the difference between a good cut and a lousy cut diamond with naked eyes especially with indoor lighting.

If you want to have a peaceful life then you should spend a bit more to make sure you are getting a good diamond and get it over and be done with. My SO is very happy with hers and getting compliments all over so i have a happy life. Women are very shallow creatures.

Strongly agree. HCA tool is not something to sacrifice on. You can sacrifice on the carat, colour or clarity, but not the HCA. It's one of the many basic tools that you need to use in your selection process.

And like hwmook said, the peace of mind is priceless :)

why you say 10k??

His a troller

Hey,
total dmg: $3600 include setting

Not sure is it a good price tho:s13::s13:

I think it is a good price :)
Mine is just slight 0.06carat bigger and it is $4500 include setting. But well, they say the prices jump when you hit the next carat number(.4 .5 .6 ...)

1. There isn't a "shop" that is not worth your visit. You never know what you can find out there. Best is to walk in any stores and look see everything you can. From there do your research online.

2. Google classic solitaire diamond ring. Take note of the ones without multiple diamonds on the band.
Cartier & Tiffany's design by far is the simplest and most classy in my opinion. Those designs are widely available in most stores since they are the classic ones.
Any potential retailor that you visit, show them the design and work from there.

Yea, thks for the advice.. Been visiting various brands for the past few days, and also got an appt with JannPaul today. Real impressed with the service and diamonds, different from what I saw in other shops.
In the end, got a Solasfera and was told it's the last piece in the 0.4 range, XD

hi, damage close to 8.

it is a very nice crystal ring box. the mini figurines are not part of the box.

They are part of the custom-made figurines based on "how i plan to spend my life with you"

How high you want the colour and clarity? I'd be more particular about the cut. It can make the diamond look bigger and "whiter". To me, clarity is the least important. I think 8k shld be able to get .8ct around there..

Not very sure about all these..

Maybe colour will be at least "E" and clarity VVS1/2? I don't know about "cut" for diamonds.

I can increase my budget a lil if there's a good reason to do so.. Otherwise, I'll work with 8k, inclusive of ring setting.

I agree wif Grizz, CUT should be your priority... A VS1 or 2 stone will be good enuff IMO... You can up your carat size if you lower the clarity and/or colour. My 2cents.

To give you a feel, I got a 0.721ct E VVS1 Cushion Brellia from JannPaul for $8.5k w/o setting..

If clarity isn't of top priority, would suggest dropping to VS1 to up the carat size...

Good luck!

JP stock is so limited... :(

0.7xct is over my bf's budget... Wanted to go for higher 0.6x but no more... End up reserved a lower 0.6xct super ideal... Solasfera only left with 0.9xct...

actually, most larger carat sizes actually come more frequently in only lower clarity.

Hey guys, popped by JP to get an idea of their pricing and range. So i gave them a random budget of $4000 for a Brelia and the best specs I was offered is 0.546 carat, Super Ideal, F colour, VS1 for $3950.

I was told by my friend to check out Bluenile and i searched using the same budget and this is the best specs for $4000 on Bluenile - 0.72carat, Signature Ideal, G colour, VVS1 for $3925..

For comparison:
JP - 0.546 carat, Super Ideal, F colour, VS1 for $3950
Bluenile - 0.72carat, Signature Ideal, G colour, VVS1 for $3925 (Link - Diamond Details | Blue Nile)

So for the same price, I can get a much bigger diamond (0.17carat more) with better clarity. I know i can't see the diamond for myself if I buy from Bluenile but the difference is really too big. What do you guys think?

They are different diamonds though.. The Brellia was the original cushion hearts and arrows diamond with superior light performance. The Bluenile one is like a copy of the Brellia but still cut differently.

Bluenile's signature cushion is actually more rounded than square. You can see the outline of the shape which is more curved, making it look more towards a round.

The next most obvious difference is the hearts. The arrow tips are all broken. For the rounds and brellia, they're all pointed. The hearts does not seem too appetitizing in my opinion, kind of lop sided here and there.

Oh ya, btw, the diamond is not a triple excellent or Ideal cut.. the Symmetry is very good.
Weirdly, the GCAL states the hearts and arrows as excellent given symmetry is very good only.

For light performance, cannot tell much about it since Bluenile don't provide the ideal or aset scope.. it'll be so much more useful than their sample pics.

Also, you forgot the add the 7% tax :)

I just re-read your post.. Are you talking about the Super Ideal round or Brellia? The one from bluenile is their cushion.
