Hi all, I got a newbie qn.. is the Brellia a cut brand or a special cushion type of diamond? Is the Brellia or Octagon better?

also, how do you get your gf's ring size?

The Brellia is a type of cut. It's different from the usual cushion diamonds in the market. You can refer to my old post about it.

JP has got their own youtube videos to compare them too.

You can try this for ring size - http://www.wikihow.com/Find-Your-Ring-Size
Worse come to worse, you can still resize it later

This is an overdue review for JannPaul. I give them 2 big thumbs up for their service and education. I went to JP last year to recce and was served by Lionel. Before I went for the appointment, I told them beforehand that I’m there just to see and won’t be buying. Even after this, Lionel was still very friendly and gave me fantastic service. Being in the service line myself, I was surprised as most sales people will give half-hearted effort after knowing that the customer won’t buy. He was very patient with me and is quite a funny guy. It took me some time to digest his teachings but it was easy to understand compared to reading alone.

After 1 year I scheduled an appointment with JP again and they actually remembered me and still had my records! Although all the diamonds I viewed was sold already.. haha. Lionel helped me again. After 1 year, I forgotten most of the things I learnt and he gave me a refresher. So he gave me the education.. again.. haha.

It's not easy to digest all of it in one sitting, but you get a much better perspective on diamonds.

They have an equipment to let you compare the diamond in different lights called the “Diamond Dock”. You can see how the diamond perform with 2 types of light effects. If you can, visit their shop in the afternoon. You can ask them to show you the diamonds outside the shop too.

They were showing me the traditional cushion diamond with the cushion brellia.
This is when its under Led lights which is those usual display lights.

and fluorescent lights. Traditional cushion looks disorganized in a sense. It like made up of many small random shards.

This is the Aset scope of both diamonds. Big big difference...
The traditional cushion is cut completely different and with major light leakages too.

The traditional cushion diamond is on the right side. Because of the light leakages, you can see like a window effect on the diamond. At that part, you are literally seeing through the diamond.

Lionel placed both the diamonds on his drawings and showed me the light leakage effect. In the light leakage cushion, you can see his blue ink handwriting through the diamond. Whereas you can't see it through the Brellia at all. Which is good because a diamond is supposed to reflect light!

Will update with more pics when I have the time.

i think most places can use card? retailers confirm can. hardly got ppl will want to go withdraw so much cash to go pay one la. unless got no cc.

I have cc but my husband paid all cash for my e-ring & wedding band. I think because JP offer 5% off for cash payments. :s13:

Can orro GIA certify their diamonds ? That will be great because GIA don't trace diamond origin

Ah, are synthetic diamonds different from diamond stimulant? What i understand is that one has the same material composition as real diamond.

check out this site http://www.goodmansjewelers.com/simulated-diamonds-vs-synthetic-diamonds/

both type of "diamonds" should be way cheaper compared to the normal diamond they are talking about here. Synthetic diamonds will be the one that have all the properties same as the earth diamond just that is lab made. I suppose your drill etc uses this diamond.

lol. Sorry dreaming away. Can pay by installment.

the retailers i went to check with mostly take installments from most credit cards. Smaller private jewellers take installment for more specific cards like UOB and maybe a few more.

Brellia is a brand name for cushion cut diamond with 8 hearts n arrows. Neither one is better than the other. Its just which cut you prefer. Octagon has 8 sides, 8 hearts and arrows and 88 facets. While brellia has don't know 57 or 58 facets with 8 hearts and arrows.

Thanks for the info! I'll go read them up and the older posts... the thread is very long with lots of info :s22:

If have more facets, should be better right?

Solasfera diamond has the most facets at 91. It depends on whether you prefer small quick flashes or broad flashes. You can look at JP's videos which they do a comparison of the diamonds. Some people find that small flashes (more facets) catches more attention while some people find it messy. Do note that the diamonds featured in JP's videos tend to be > 1ct so they look super nice. It's better you go to the shop to do a comparison and see it in real life.

To be honest when one of the sales person put both solasfera and super ideal diamonds side by side, i couldn't tell the difference from about ~1.5m away. Up close, i actually preferred super ideal's light reflection.

Requoting for info
best u compare the diamonds side by side to see your preference.

if you prefer bling bling flashes = 0.35 solasfera
if you prefer less bling/broader flashes = 0.35 super ideal (can upsize to get a bigger carat bcos the solasfera will cost more)

just imagine a small mirror, broken into 91 pieces vs 57 pieces, the reflectivity will be different.

both are supposed to be stunning in either ways.

Base on HCA score, looks good on paper, but still have to see the scope images to have a more accurate verdict.

Uploaded! There are some light leakages on the table and the sides though.. It might be because the hearts and arrows are not very symmetrical (7 o'clock hearts is smaller, the V shape at 10 o'clock is smaller)
