Personally, I feel DEF are very similar. No point paying for a D if a F is available. But once you go down to G, you can see a slight yellow tint, which is not obvious when viewed from the top, but becomes obvious when you look from the bottom of the diamond. However, once you set a G diamond, most people will only look at the diamond from the top.

At the end of the day, it depends on your comfort level and budget... Some people need their diamond to be a clean crisp white (DEF), and some are okay with a slight tint that's not obvious when viewed from the top (G).

The way angle you see and under what kind of lighting it affect your color perception too.

Considering this diamond. GF fingers are very small so decided to go for better quality diamonds at .40 size.

Below is one of my choices 0.43 D VS1 3EX from JP.
$3.1k for this super ideal round cut..
Additional 500-600$ for setting..

Any advise please?
(She likes it to be very very shiny ** at least thats what I know)

Their Super Ideals are very very shiny. If she likes super super shiny, can consider their solasfera or octagon cuts too.

hi guys, just a question, does your diamond look 'mess up' when u take a close look from different angle? doesn't really know how to describe, just feel that inside of the diamond look rather complicated after embedded onto a setting..

If she like very shiny, I'm sure she will love it if it's bigger than 0.4 (even if her fingers are tiny).

I'll say go for Super ideal 0.5-0.6, F Color VS2 (I assume you would want clear icy colours was regardless of angle or psychological 😂, else u can consider G.)

If your budget is tight, cut down on your fancy meals for a month or 2, bump the size up, It'll be worth it ;)

For those that have proposed or are proposing, how do you guys choose which your ring design without getting her involved?

if you lady is ok with your choices great, just don't tell her.
if you lady hinted she only want the box box and no other hmm.. that can be tricky

no one will dislike big diamond. So choose something like 0.5 and above. the price jump from D to E is rather huge iirc, so try to choose E (placebo effect) or minimum F. clarity as long as vs2 and above will be alright. Few mths ago I saw a 0.5+ct E super ideal cut from JP for around 3.9k exclude setting iirc. u can try asking them for something similar.

my think is most women only care about the ct size and color.. but thats my view la..

try asking how much additional will it cost to re-set the diamond? if u gonna choose a fancy ring setting, u may hv to get her involve. For me, I keep it simple, a 6prongs ring setting for a classic look. If she dun like the design, we can jus go back to change the setting

If I do that design, I'll change the owls to bunnies. Its has a special meaning for us :o

Well, I know she likes bling bling stuff. Haven't thought into much about all the small details but even if I try to think about it myself, I don't think I can give a definite answer.. haha. My appt with JP is next week. I'll see what they'll advise me.

Another option is for me to propose with just the diamond first without the setting. Then after, I'll let her choose the design. Has anyone done this? But I feel it kinda takes the wow factor away..

you can try proposing with a wedding band instead? if not i think JP has some ring clip that perhaps you can borrow for your proposal after you paid for the diamond (its like a simple ring but instead of prongs it has some clip mechanism to clip on to the diamond

Maybe I should consider the 0.5.

Her ring size is 3.5. The person at jp advised to take a size 0.3 - 0.4 diamond to match her ring size.. They advised against 0.5 carats as the setting would look too high and out of place... Otherwise I would be very willing to take 0.53 E VS1 for $4k.

She also mention before she don't like the diamond setting to be very high and protruding. Hence the strong advise from JP to take the 0.4..

Should I consider the 0.5c?

A reference for you, this is a size 3.5 - 3.75 with a 0.6ct (grabbed this photo online) It definitely doesn't look 'too big', it look just nice

Ultimately up to your decision and budget!

Even if the diamond is bigger, it can be set lower so that it does not sit very high off the finger. Just avoid a cathedral setting or the more fancy settings because they tend to lift the diamond upward to showcase it more.

previously I did a size comparison where you key in all the angle between 0.5 and 0.6ct via online website(forgot the link), and the size difference is around 20%.

you can ask JP to show u a 0.4 and 0.5 to compare.

Is that yellow gold? If it's me, I will ask for white gold, to maximise the diamond's reflections.
