1. Is there an ideal size for an engagement ring? Maybe a mathematical formula comparing the ring size to the ideal size of the diamond?

2. What would be the price for a 1 - 1.25 carat diamond ring with VVS1 and better, F or E colour, and an Ideal cut?

Can you share its scope images? It will be easier for the pros here to evaluate your diamond based on the images.

Or if you don't wanna share the images then GIA number also can. We can see its proportions and advise you accordingly. But at the end of the day, it is the scopes that will tell if this stone is worth it.

Ideal size ah. The bigger the better lor

There is no perfect ratio of ring size to carat weight. Just get whatever is within your budget and which you think your intended fiancee deserves.

Based on your specs, and based off the quotes I got locally for diamonds in that carat range but with lower clarity/colour specs, I think a 1 carat diamond with near super-ideal cut quality should be around 13.5-14k. A JP super-ideal should be somewhere in the range of 15k-16k for a 1 carat with those specs. Again, these are estimates with rough % uplifts for colour/clarity upgrades, you can get a concrete answer by visiting the local shops.

If you/your GF is not picky, suggest you go down to a VS2 on clarity and an F on colour. Prices should be around 10-15% lower.

If you are not looking for a diamond with super-ideal or near super-ideal quality, just have a look on whiteflash/good old gold/james allen/bluenile and take your price references from there. Prices for standard range round brilliant cut diamonds are generally quite standard, it's when you start looking at super-ideal quality round brilliants and fancy cuts that prices become more varied.

Based on HCA score, believe this is the ideal (and not super-ideal) that JP showed you. Depending on the scopes, it may still be a reasonable purchase. Based on the proportions shown on the GIA cert, it looks like a case of the crown angle and pavilion angle being slightly uncomplementary, which affects the optical symmetry slightly enough to put it outside of JP's super-ideal requirements. I might be wrong, but that's my uneducated guess

Based on the GIA cert, all I can do is run the proportions through the Holloway Cut Advisor, which just tells me that it is not a terrible diamond, but is not enough to say whether it is a good diamond. That requires scopes, as already mentioned several times.

Since you are buying from JP, you should examine these diamonds through the scopes and check the cut quality for yourself. As always, examination through the scopes is the true litmus test of cut quality.

But IMO, since you are looking at a small carat weight, I would suggest forgoing the super-ideal range and look for a decent ideal quality diamond, which although does not have perfect optical symmetry, would cost less and allow you to maximise the carat weight with your budget you have available. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say the visible difference between a ideal and super-ideal quality diamond in small carat weights will not be readily apparent to the naked eye.

I'll suggest you drop the color to G and clarity to VS2 (if there's stock) and bump up the carat size to 0.45-0.49 if 3k is around your budget.

My advice is,
go down to the JP.

It does sounds like you request everything through email.
From many post from people going down to JP, they are hardly stingy on the scope images. Many have taken using their own phone cameras.

I would suggest going down, have a look. See which one you fancy within your budget. I believe they will ask you put a deposit, mainly to secure the diamond. If you are very confirm you are getting from them, then I suggest just put a deposit. Since you still can change diamonds anytime you think it is not a good diamond. However, if you think you might want to explore other local stores or online stores. Then, do not put anything deposit.

I saw that your proposal ring is not the conventional 3-prong setting for a heart shaped diamond. Why eh? You don't like 3-prong?

Thanks! I think personally.. I had this phobia that the 3 prongs would not be sufficient 'hold' for the diamond. 5 prongs seemed a lot more secure haha. But on hindsight.. probably something that depends very much on personal preference.

IMO, not much difference between the two. 0.03 carat difference won't really be a noticeable difference, naked eye cannot tell any difference between VS1 and VS2, BUT if your eyes are sharp you will be able to see a slight tinge of yellow in a G colour diamond. I'd stick with the 0.41 F VS1.

Are the two diamonds in the video the ones you're referring to? Let your own eyes be the judge, if you can't tell much difference when they're side by side and in a magnified video, then there's not much point going for a miniscule size upgrade.

TLDR version: If it were me, between those two, I'll either (1) stick with the 0.41 F VS1 for the reasons I've explained already; or (2) forgo the super-ideal and just get the largest ideal diamond I can find within my budget with decent optical symmetry. Honestly, I would go with option (2) given budget constraints.

Option 2 for me too!

I personally feel that their Super Ideal cuts are overpriced. They are nothing but tip top 3 Ex stones with a fancy name. If you are tight on budget, get an ideal cut and max out on carat with F VS2 lowest.
