Does all shops locally can provide ASET, hearts/arrows scope images, ? What about online?
Soo Kee , Gold heart , Tiffany's , Love & Co etc ?

Is it ok to buy loose diamond and set locally or do everything online and ship? Assuming I know her ring size la

Not all shop provide you with the scopes.
Even online as well.
So far the only place providing you all this scopes would be JannPaul.

You can try asking the other shops, but I doubt they have them for you.

It is okay to buy loose diamond and set locally. There are few jewellers that could do the ring setting for you. Doing it online and shipping it over is also another option. It all tones down to what do you prefer.
Doing it online or bring the diamond to a local shop and get it fixed.
Online then it will be a little troublesome with the shipment and etc if there is any problem with the ring.

As for the local shop, you can always bring it back to the shop for checks, cleaning, polishing and etc.

Typical jewellery stores like the ones you mentioned only have the H&A viewer. As for ASET, not many, only two local jewellers have it - JannPaul and White Dwarf.

Online, yes but only for their signature cuts. Whiteflash A Cut Above, yes. James Allen True Hearts, yes. The rest of the diamonds you need to inquire. As far as I know, James Allen can provide ASET image if the diamond is located in their New York warehouse.

Buy loose diamond and set locally is the best way to go. But it would be even more ideal if you can inspect the diamonds first before buying. That's why JannPaul is so damn popular here haha. This thread can more or less be renamed to JannPaul Proposal Ring really haha.

Since you do not know your girlfie's ring size, it is not recommended to get it done online cuz resizing will be troublesome. You need to ship the ring to the online store, wait for a few weeks for the resizing and another week for it to be shipped back to you.

I wonder if got ppl like us buy those 3 scopes and walk into the branded store to buy diamond a not.

I came very close to doing that :s13:

But in the end I didn't cos (1) lazy, and (2) scared later kenna whack by the private jewellers.

Branded store got no loose diamond for you to choose from, meaning you have you buy whatever they have that's already set into an existing ring. They don't have that many diamonds rings to choose from either. You'll have to go and find either a shop that sells loose diamonds, or find a diamond wholesaler who's willing to sell to individual buyers and sift through their stock.

How come JP so popular? Cannot be others that are equally as good?

I did some reading : for online there is
whiteflash, bluenile, jamesallen. yeah some of their better cuts they do have more scope pics. Seems like this diamondpro recommend jamesallen ( vs bluenile ) not sure about whiteflash. Local there is bluenile right? Maybe can try ? Online vs Jannpaul , what is the expected price % difference.

Tiffany and Cartier those don't have loose diamond hor? all those pre-set already...

So far I'm still reading and trying to put some specs that I'm going for and also reading through this thread from part 3.. too many to read la...

Basically for online, if you get their best cut vs JP's Super ideal, the pricing is actually about the same or just few hundreds cheaper (but the cut quality of the best cut online is slightly lousier than JP's Super Ideal). However, by saving the couple of hundreds dollars, you'll be getting a slightly lousier cut PLUS you won't be able to enjoy the benefit of free resizing, repolishing etc as compared if you get from JP and also the fact that u could get 100% trade in value for upgrade in JP and not incurring shipping cost + insurance cost back to merchant as compared to online.

Getting from JP is your best bet TBH, unless you're looking out for SI1 / SI2 diamonds online (JP only provides minimum VS2 for their top quality cut), online might then be significantly cheaper if you're willing to take a risk and go for the very Low end on the clarity. (SI1 / SI2), if not, I will not be bothered with online. Just 2 cents from someone who had scouted almost all online stores looking for a good deal :)

Just proposed to my fiancee a couple of days back. She is super happy and delighted with the ring i bought from JP.

I chose JP after reading this thread, and watching countless youtube videos stating how important it is to check out the scopes of a diamond to verify its quality.

I must give a big shout out to Joey who was super friendly and professional, and made this whole stressful ring choosing experience an easy going and joyous occasion. I went down a few times to confirm the diamond and design, and each time Joey was very conscientious and patient. She always made sure that I was comfortable before committing to anything.

Here is a pic of my ring.

Since i've got proposal ring from JP, now thinking of getting wedding bad from a brand name.

Anybody knows the rough estimate for plain wedding bands (no diamonds , or just a small diamond for the girl's ring) for each shop?

Tiffany and co
Love and co
Feel free to add on from shops you've visited.

Material (whitegold/rose gold)

gf is leaning towards T&C but there is chop carrot head right?

Aside from online vs brick and mortar...

Sorry newbie here.. just saying my thoughts after reading this https://www.diamonds.pro/loose-diamonds-certified-diamond-prices/

. I'm actually looking at 0.7x ct

I mean it's good to see scope etc that's the most ideal case la but what if one dumb down to able to see with the visual eye as most ppl won't bring a lope around . Also the 2nd thing I want to mention is if one doesn't put another side by side I feel it's difficult to see the difference. Probably it could boil down to buy something that you feel it's good enough . Of course I still prefer to go down to a brick and mortar location la so that one can see. Comments pls?

Cheers

0.7 carat. Well, let's take a look at your options here.
You have singled out the size of it which is around 0.7c. Very good.
Next, what is the color preference? D, E, F or willing to go lower?
Clarity, what is your lowest range you are willing to go to? Reckon no lower than VS2. But if you die die want lower, then by all means. :)

Most importantly, like everyone mention and know, it is the cut.
Yes, nobody is going to bring the scope around, nobody is even going to bring the diamond and compare side by side to see which has the best bling... but, at the end of the day, it all boils down to "paying for what it is worth".

If you want a good diamond with good cut, then be prepared to pay more.
If you just want to look at the carat, then your options are plentiful.
Just go and look for any 0.7carat in your budget range.
My friend bought a 1carat diamond with EGL certificate last year in the Gems fair for just $4k plus!

But, i am not so sure about the cut, clarity and color as i didnt want to ask so much afraid he may have bought something "less favourable" and just the size is big.

There are many things to consider when you scout for your diamond.
It is always good to get a free education (you can go to Jannpaul and have 1.5-2hr session without getting any diamond).
After that when you have a clearer view, go and shop everywhere you want.
Good luck with your search.

P/S: it took me 2 months of reading online, blogs, youtube and etc. before I went to Jannpaul for the "diamond introduction" which last me 15 mins because I read everything written and video on their blog and fb.

I also went to Lee hwa, soo kee, citigem, meyson, love & co, lovis, and others just to have a look and etc after that.
Went online to look for it as well.

I ended up placing my order at JP. Lol :s13:

Carat : 0.7x
Cut : Excellent and above
Color : G or F
Clarity : VS1-VS2-SI1 ( min VS2? )
Setting : 4 prong, would go for 6 prong if still looks ok because it's safer?

I read also about a lot of micro sparkles vs bigger bling with regards to JP. I think I prefer the bigger one.

More or less my spec ( of course to be confirmed after visual inspection by naked eye and scope to support it ).

Another guide that I'm reading now

If you're not so anal on getting 'best of the best' cut, go have a look at JP's ideal series (not super ideal), their quality is comparable with those signature cuts the online stores are selling but JP's ideal are probably cheaper comparing the same specs. I think you can try go for F/G color, VS2.

Your friend probably gotten a really bad cut with horrible color & clarity lol. A friend of mine gotten a diamond from a gem fair last year too, about 10k for 1 CT, but it wasn't a good piece, the HCA was almost 3. Most of the dealer will not educate you on the diamond, they will just sell to you anything and earn their commission.
