Gold comes in many colours nowadays. What you were seeing at SK is probably white gold, not silver. Rose gold is also pretty popular. Yellow gold is not so popular with youngsters nowadays. These are all gold.
Typically (but not always) in SG, guys will propose with a proposal/engagement ring first to give to the girl. Usually it will have a central diamond, with or without side diamonds.
After that, the couple will go together to buy wedding bands. Sometimes very simple ones, sometimes a lot of pattern, it's up to the couple. This one is for when they do solemnization, they will put on each other's fingers.
Both wedding bands and proposal rings you will be able to find at the usual Gold Heart/Poh Heng/SK/Lee Hwa etc. If just pure yellow gold can shop around the goldsmiths at Little India too to hunt for good price.
This forum loves Jann Paul for proposal rings because they sell really well cut, value for money diamonds.
So depends what you getting the ring for? If it's for someone, maybe a good idea to find out his/her tastes. If buying for yourself then the sky's the limit, there are lots of mixed colour designs and there are jewelers here who can do custom design.
