Bro, not trying to argue u.. but I saw 4 - 5 HOH ideal aset scopes vs WF ACA aset scopes.. similar GIA specifications.. HOH ideals don't come close to WF ACA..

I personally think that WF ACA is 3 - 5% inferior to JP SIC.. both are in the same top tier.. as for HOH IDEAL.. Can get if budget constraint.. better than u go to other shops that tell u **** like "aset scope is not as important as hearts n arrows"or "we dont show aset scope here, it is not accurate"

Yea, I go agree with you. Some of the WF ACA are better than the HOH Ideal. But there are also some HOH Ideal better than WF ACA.
I feel that WF ACA can vary, like some ACA are better than other ACA. It's like a range. Just like HOH Ideal which varies too. Some are better than others.

JP SIC are all the same. No variation in the quality. This is why I feel that WF ACA and HOH Ideal are comparable. But yeah, either way its better than those shops that try to dismiss the aset scope. lol

IMO HOH ideal cut also varies a lot, got some is like 5% inferior to SIC, got some is 20% inferior to SIC.

Here is an example of a 0.47 ideal cut from HOH that I got the scope images for sometime last month which in my opinion could pass off as a SIC.

This is definitely one of the better HOH ideal.. though I can see that some of the arrows are not in a straight line with the arrow head. Some of the WF ACA has this too.

I agree..

What's the price range of a 0.8 F VS1/2 at HOH? if the scope is like that, worth buying actually

hooted myself a super ideal cut 0.61 E VS2 diamond last weekend!! we went there with no appointment at 2pm but they were full. was lucky one of their 6pm appointment last min cancelled and we quickly took that slot.

this is the diamond we got. very very sparkly!! i took so many photos and videos of it. on table, under table, on hand, on ring, on scopes.. hehe. this is once in a lifetime moment and cost so much.. need to take more memories right?

i see the diamond by itself is so so pretty. in the later half of the video, i try to block out the lights to see the diamond in the dark. it was still bright and sparkling! its so so shiny! i couldnt stop staring at the sparkles! i move the diamond abitt or move my head abit, the sparkles will move and change colors like rainbow :s22:

i was holding the diamond on my bf's lap when he took this video. don't mind my nails (time for manicure :o:o:o)

the rest of these is under the scopes. i didnt understand fully all of this part. i left it to my boy to listen. all i know is this is to check and test the diamond to make sure it will be shiny. hahaha. i left this up to him to handle. they'll be sending me the scope pictures of it too.. think its the same ones that you guys been posting.

we chose the E VS2 combination. dont see the need to go for a higher clarity when i cant see the difference. i was actually fine with the G color. G to F like got no difference. G to E very small difference. they did a blind test on me and i got it right twice! but it was really hard lor. the reason why we got an E was because my name started with a E. hahaha. My bf name starts with G. But since this will be my ring, we follow my name. hehe

by the time we chose our diamond, the shop closing already. so in the end, we still need to book another appointment to choose the design and see what to customize.. can't concentrate at work at all today :s13:

Very nice diamond! Is it from JP? Got see their other cuts like the solasfera and octagon?

Another thing to watch out when buying from indie retailers in SG..

Some of them got their own "Signature/special/spooky Ideal" which is suppose to be equivalent of a JP SIC or Whiteflash ACA, but the cut is not even close in comparison.
Have to understand that GIA certification may rate the cut of a diamond as excellent, but there are other considerations like ratio, HCA score and all that u might wanna read on.. Because a lower tier "GIA Excellent" is not going to perform half as well as a "higher tier "GIA Excellent"

Another thing, must take note of florescence.. I tried to go budget since a 0.8 (which is my tolerance for size, gf just wanted a small diamond) is very costly.. so I went to look at a few boutique shops/ indie retailers.. basically they tell u the shiat that because they are direct dealers etc hence their diamonds cost cheaper.. Then they show u a GIA cert with excellent and everything else.. These diaomnds usually have medium to strong florescence and florescence actually cause milkiness in diamonds.. under UV light, the diamond is blue as well..

Just sharing what I learned over past 2 months.. Now just waiting for Dec to bend a knee and pop the qns..

dun want to spend 4k then go see solasfera, greedy no use pocket need heavy la :s13:

Oh... you don't have money for solasfera? I don't have money for Mercs, so I don't go and see them, but can still afford a ring. I thought since I (might) buy a white diamond, might as well buy one that's better than the rest since I love diamonds.

And also because JP has the best diamonds + trade in. I still gian the trade-in, haha... Bc I very poor

May I know non-diamond is due to cost or other reasons so just strictly non-diamond?

I heard Les Precioux is good for stones like sapphires, ruby, padparadschahs but IMO I asked their quotes before and quite expensive (0.5ct for 3k). I think if you are in this market, you will get better picks if you go to Myanmar or Thailand. But must do good research.

Anyway if non-diamond due to cost, you can still consider lab diamonds.

Google Choo Yilin.. look at their engagement rings.. I'm not sure of the spec, but they looked really pretty to me.. 7.8k upwards.. Sapphires and emeralds..

I'd have gone for it but my better half is kinda conventional regarding proposal ring,,

Hahaha, I went through something similar like you but not that bad.
Re-quoting an old post by one of the bros that basically summarized what you said.

On a separate topic, how are you proposing??

There’s some confusion about diamond quality, certificate and price comparisons that’s creating a lot of misunderstanding amongst the bros. To make it easier for everyone, let me try to summarise it as best I can to clear the air.

First off, there is different diamond quality. You can categorise them into,
Tier 1 - aka Super Ideal Cuts
Tier 2 - aka Ideal Cuts
Tier 3 - aka Excellent Cuts

Is there a visual difference? Yes, especially when you compare them (or at least to me). I won’t go into details about this as its better that you discover it yourselves.
On paper (certificate), these 3 different Tiers can have the same details on paper, as the certificate gives only basic information. Choosing a diamond solely on the certificate info is plain buying blindly. It’s like asking a Doctor to diagnose a patient with a stethoscope. Is it useful? Yes. Can it diagnose a patient fully? No. The Doctor would need a MRI scan, blood test, etc. to get the full information of a patient to give an accurate diagnosis. Same thing as diamonds, where the ASET, Hearts and arrows scope, etc. is needed for a fuller analysis.

These different Tiers can affect the diamond’s price too. We use a 0.5ct D VVS1 for example.
Tier 1 (Super Ideal Cut) 0.5ct D VVS1 - $5,000
Tier 2 (Ideal Cut) 0.5ct D VVS1 - $4,000
Tier 3 (Excellent Cut) 0.5ct D VVS1 - $3,000

These 3 diamonds have same certificate but the cost is different. In essence, quality can affect price.
But the crux of the matter is that there is no universal law or rule of what is a Ideal Cut, which makes things very complicated.

For example, Shop A uses a Tier 3 (Excellent Cut) 0.5ct D VVS1 diamond, calls it a ‘Super Ideal Cut’ and sells it for $4,000.
If you compare it with another Shop B selling a Tier 1 (Super Ideal Cut) for $5,000, you would think Shop A is a good deal, where in fact, the true price is only worth $3,000.
*This is purely an example, and I’m not labelling any shops.

Basically, don’t blindly trust all these labels and what the any shops calls them, and do your own research on whether your diamond truly belongs to which Tier.
Even if you don’t care about the quality, by knowing which Tier your diamond belongs to, you can use it to gauge what’s a good price you should be paying for it.

The next point is finding the same diamond being offered at different shops. Why are different shops able to sell the same diamond?
Shops can sell diamonds in 2 different ways.
1. Own inventory
2. Floating goods

Own inventory is basically owning the diamonds that they sell. Usually, these are the better quality ones as which shop would want to use their own money to invest in lousy diamonds?
Floating goods is when the shop doesn’t own the diamonds, but borrows it from the suppliers to sell. Usually, these are the more problematic ones because these are the diamonds that shops don’t want to buy for their own inventory.
So where do all these diamonds go to that shops don’t want to invest in? The floating goods. There can be many many reasons to this like the diamond being milky, off color tinges, durability issues, light leakages, etc (which is all not on the certificate).
I’m not saying that all of these diamonds are bad, but you have to be very careful about them and they are floating goods for a reason.

Majority of websites do the floating goods method, or some can use both methods. Most people avoid the floating goods as there are many risks involved, but I feel that there is no right or wrong in this.
Its just what is your level of tolerance that is acceptable to you.
The problem only comes in when websites just calls anything Super Ideal Cut just to fool people into competing with JP standards.

So it really depends on what you want. At the end of the day, everyone just wants to get the best bang for the buck. Some go for quality value, some go for paper value.
But whether you want a Tier 1 or Tier 3 diamond, I believe that everyone wants the best price you can get for it.
Its just that some might confuse the labels and compare a Tier 1 and Tier 3 diamond which is not correct.

Basically, you don’t want to buy a Tier 3 diamond and pay a Tier 2 price for it, thinking its a Tier 1 quality.

definitely not because of the cost. I would like to go for more non conventional or unique. cost for now should not be a problem. but must still sound out my gf first if she want a traditional diamond ring or not.

choo yilin has some pretty interesting rings. let me know if there are other other recommendations too.

This forum is meant for u to ask as many questions as u like and hope people reply so u get some clarity :)

Generally for the other brands, they do not provide aset scope for viewing, which determines the light return of the diamond. They feel having the "perfect cut" hearts and arrows are good enough. Then when I view through the H&A scope, the arrows aren't that defined or straight. Rarely can u view the hearts from the bottom because the diamonds are already set. Love & Co assured me that they'll use a new diamond to set on my ring but she didn't take it out from the case to let me view through the scope? Isn't that just fishy? But maybe it's just my experience.

My sis bought her diamond ring from soo kee as it was on sale. Simple settings. The diamond didn't sparkle under our house natural lighting though so I didn't even step into soo kee before. But it made me search through sk jewelery and I liked their "Our Love Ignites" wedding band. The service was terrible that I wondered if it was worth dragging my time longer in the store just for that band.

Sis bought wedding band from meyson so I checked it out. The SAs were friendly but when they heard we were considering diamond from another store, they kept saying other stores hide things from you, the diamond not as perfect as theirs. But they didn't bring out any scopes for me to see. And I just felt I didn't like this putting down of other companies, though they had some nice designs.

I think gold heart, just consider if you're looking for gold, not diamond. SAs are nice. Taka.. Just skip it lol

You can always view all these b&m stores and share your experience with all of us ;)

My 0.72 E VS1 was $6200. I think they had a 0.77 F VS1 $6700.

I think someone mentioned before, the difference in HOH ideal is quite wide. There are some really good ones (like mine lol xD) and some not that great so u really gotta see the scopes before deciding :)
