ah thanks for the reply. any other places to go look around too?

for my budget, what is the estimated ring that i should be looking out for, cut, carot etc? my gf finger looks pretty slim to me. still got to find a way to measure it without her knowing

You can try whiteflash (online).
For physical store, you can try those jewellery stores that are commonly seen in shopping malls.
However, those store do not have any scopes to show you.
They will most likely show you the GIA certificate and view the diamond with your naked eyes.

Based on what I know, JP will show you all the scopes (ASET, Ideal, Hearts and Arrows, Actual) before you buy.

Based on your budget, from previous post, JP will be around 0.6x carat, E-F, VS1-VS2.

You can book an appointment with them to understand more about diamonds and what's so special about their SIC.
Then visit other stores, with that knowledge, to compare.

My 2 cents.

Where to shop depends what’s important to you. Brand or value for money? Size or quality? Only looking at diamonds or other gems as well?

there seems to be a few acronym being bantered around. just curious where can i go to have a view so that i can decide on which proposal ring to get. where is JP? i dun think it mean jurong point right?

let me know the other highly recommended places that you guys talking about. Budget around 5 to 6k

Can consider going JP for the non-obligatory diamond education session first, followed by checking out their various signature diamonds - Super Ideal Cut, Solasfera, Octagon and Cushion Brellia.

After being introduced a fair bit on what to look out for diamonds, can visit a couple jewellery shops to compare the quality and prices of the diamonds.

For me, I'd still stick to JP for their great service and transparency in showing the actual quality and cut of their diamonds. And I'm sure many others here will agree with that. Nonetheless, it is still down to one's personal preference, so just follow your ultimate choice diamond in the end.

For your budget, you might be able to get a mid/high 0.5x to low 0.6x carat Super Ideal Cut diamond with plain settings (With/Without customisation). Got my 0.63 carat F VVS2 diamond at $5,500 excluding setting cost. I had customised my ring setting such that it requires more raw material, which results in additional $700. Total cost for the proposal ring is at $6,200.

more value for money and of good quality. not limited to just diamonds

Value for money avoid chain stores at malls. You’re paying a lot for advertising and rent. Chain stores try to sell you based on diamond certification, but certificates today don’t grade enough aspects of a diamond.

Jann Paul are the go to people for quality at value for money prices here in SG. Highly recommend make appointment with them for free 1-2 hour education on how to judge diamonds past certificates, with no hard selling tactics. They don’t mind after that you go around the rest of SG with your new eyes and new knowledge and try to find something that can beat what they have to offer.

As for other gems, they haven’t really taken off in SG, but you can get like 10x the size of a rock for the same budget as a diamond. For moissionite, C&C were the biggest players for many years. Some say Amora Gem which is a newer player is making higher quality pieces but they don’t have a physical store in SG. Seems like a new store Noderite is bringing C&C in so you can go take a physical look at least. Cubic Zirconia at places like Orro and Gordon Max typically not very recommended as they are rather soft and will turn cloudy over time. White sapphire not so common in SG. You’ll see stuff like blue sapphire, emerald and ruby occasionally in jewellery stores.

Another option to physical stores is to buy a rock online then get a jeweler here to set into a ring. The problem is you don’t get to see the rock in person before buying.

Is it true Noderite is selling C&C? They are selling for quite expensive for moissanite 14k rings, I saw their price list online:

5mm mossianite ring: SGD$1800
6mm mossianite ring: SGD$2000
7mm mossianite ring: SGD$2200
8mm mossianite ring: SGD$2600

:s11: I thought maybe they were selling a really good moissanite to be charging multiple thousands for them..

Moiss Jewelry quoted me $450 for 5.5mm C&C Forever One. For Forever Brilliant, they are selling 0.8ct for $190.

Their settings are not the cheapest but you can buy the loose stone and bring to Efficient Jewellery to set it. I enquired in Carousell and they quoted me $300+ for a plain 18k ring, if there's pave diamonds, it's $700, and their pave diamonds are quite good, G colour VS clarity one. The cut I don't know as I haven't visited them yet.

Noderite seems to be marking up quite a bit...

That’s what an earlier poster mentioned. I guess local distribution always tends to be ex.

I see, thank you. The 2 vendors I found, Moiss Jewelry and Efficient Jewellery, are both local vendors and their prices are much cheaper and they provide better gold. I suggest consumers to find the best price for what they are getting as there's no reason to spend additional 1k for no value-add, might as well use it to get a pave setting or something....

Hi there,

Can I get your opinion ? So the .79 F was sold. Hence when I went down I was shown a .74 D VS1. it was great but when I saw clarity chart it said needle pinpoint and feather. Is feather a NONO ? How about crystal ?

Also what is your take on GIA or AGS ?

Grateful is for all the guidance and advice given so far. Been really helpful.

Can I get your advice ?

GIA 2185115495 D VS1 Feather Needle Pinpoint, Fluorescence None
GIA 1278198702 D VS1 Crystal Needle Pinpoint, Fluorescence None
AGS 104089609028 D VS1 Needle Pinpoint Fluorescence Negligible

Thanks in advance.

Possible to negotiate?

Is it possible to negotiate the price at stores like Canary? Feel a bit paiseh, but when I look around, the individual price of the stones I am looking at don't seem to be that high and the sapphire that I am looking at got no cert some more, not sure if its a normal thing

Feather and crystal is ok as long as its not on the surface or edge. It's hard to decide just based on those info. You got the scopes of them?

I prefer the AGS cert. It has the light performance grade and is bigger than the GIA cert. haha

Can you share price?

I think D is overkill but can understand we all want the best for our other halves

First was $7900
the other 2 I did not manage to ask due to rushing for the next meeting.

Looking for E actually but hoping to bump up to .78/79 for that price range.

Frankly, I feel that diamonds from Jp should be fine. Most importantly is that it fits your budget la

Can you tell the diff btw E and F? Most important is the visual aspects of it, not the certificate. Try to max the carat weight as much as you can as that’s most worth it imho.

Oh and just get their VS2 clarity grade as clarity really cannot see. If they don’t have the diamond you want on hand, you can custom order. Just need to wait around 3 months.
