Hi all,

I am drowned in the amount of information regarding all the diamonds.

I am currently looking for a ring that is around 0.3-0.4 crt with a budget of 3k. May I know where is a good place to start.

In addition, there's a sale on-going for Valentine's period. May I know if the sales is worth chasing?

Thanks.

Trust the thread here and check out House of Hung at Orchard. I too was lost earlier last month but have no regrets choosing House of Hung. Even with a tight budget they'll do their best to get the best value diamond for you. If you want can try out the other spots like Venus Tears or Poh Kim first (personally liked the service at both shops as well) but I feel after seeing HoH diamonds that's probably your best bet.

back from JP, 0.77 F VS2 Solasfera (8.9k) with a Halo ring setting (1.1k for the ring). $10k in total.

is this reasonable?

I believe they are the only one authorised to sell solasfera in SG, hence there’s no comparison of pricing if you want a solasfera.

0.41 F VVS2 super idea cut is 3200 including setting... Is it ok?

GIA report 6311163763

Price wise is definitely ok if include settings. However, the diamond depth is a little deep at 61.8

If u can find a more shallow diamond with say 61.2/61.3 and same angle, would be good

I wouldn’t call it deep. JP would have SIC’s with 61.8 depth.
The specs looks fine just that vvs clarity is abit of an overkill for 0.4c

@funkdevil were u able to see it with an ASET scope?

well. it really depends on urself.

but i can share my experience. i designed a customised tiara ring for my wife's proposal ring.

comparing the ring to a default made wedding band at love and co. i can say i deeply regret not making everything at JP. cuz even the small diamond bits u can see a major difference in clarity and shine.

i am glad at least the proposal ring was well recived by both me and my wife.

of cuz there are always other options and if u have direct sources it would be cheaper. but i would say JP is the closest best u can go if you have limited options. but dun wanna lose out to big brand names.

i mean ultimately as much as brand strikes a nice impression. what matters most is ur partner loving it right? :)

Why do pple buy Rolex? Because it’s associated with a quality that comes with the brand and JP provides great customer service.
But is a $6000 watch better than $500 one? When you choose to get JP sic, it looks good on paper and there’s where you start to get diminishing returns over value. Yes, some people might be able to pick out a SIC vs an ideal cut but the differences are ever so minute..

The problem of course is that many of the chain stores sell lower quality or rather not as well cut diamonds but if you are willing to look for it and know what to look for, there may be value outside of JP

Thanks! Yup I was able to see it from an ASET scope. I bought it from JP so am hoping the end product is a good one. They have 0.41 with a VS1 however the price is $100 different between a VVS2 and VS1 so decide to top up $100. I would want to have a bigger carat e.g 0. 51 but it is not within my budget. They didn't have 0.45 though

For $100, I would take the jump in clarity as well.
0.5c is a tough one as there’s also a price jump above that mark. That is unless you were willing to look at ideal cuts from HOH.
Nevertheless both are great buys

Service at JP is really good. I went to love&co, yuen tung, poh kim and JP before finally deciding on JP.

Love&co sales person didn't seem interested in my business (mayb cos I'm not big fish buying <10k). For my budget of abt 6.5k, love & Co offered me a 0.5c. I find love and Co ring setting rather nice but overpriced

Next, Made an impromptu trip to yuen tung. they showed me a few different diamonds without much explanation, ownself choose from their wide variety. Nth caught my eye and the shop did not have any customers.

After that I headed next door to poh kim. It gave me a homely feel since its family runned business. They do calculate HCA score for each of their loose diamonds. Diamond proportion wise, most are within ideal range, rarely can find smth within super ideal proportions. Their boss Mr tay is a really busy man... Always on the phone. When I arrived, I waited at one corner of the office and his staff (an aunty) served us tea. Mr tay then came over and showed us 2 diamonds. He left us there with the diamonds while he attended to other customer. I found it amusing that he left us alone with such expensive stuff. After 30mins, he called us over to his work area and showed us more diamonds. Whilst showing us the diamonds, he himself got mixed up and he ended up guessing which diamond belonged to which cert (not very reassuring lei). Price wise, its really reasonable (yuen tung also abt same price) ... Settings he quoted $250 for simple setting design.

Finally went to JP, was amazed by the good service and explanation by the staff. Eventually decided to pay premium and go for JP. While I was rather interested in poh kim range, I was afraid that there may be a mix up or error as the boss seemed too overwhelmed

On side note:
I realised that JP super ideal tend to have larger sparkles than diamonds from other places. Other places diamond has small sparkles similar to solesfera. Not sure if anyone noticed

If Im not wrong, the small diamond bits that JP uses are their signature melees. They say they cant call them Super Ideal cuts because its not certified, but they do handpick the better ones.

My ROM is going to be end of this year. Need to start searching for my wedding bands soon!

This is exactly where u will get value outside of JP

???

I meant the small tiny diamonds that JP uses on their setting or bands are Signature melees and not super ideal cuts. Cos by those small tiny diamonds are not certified. so by right, cannot be called Super ideal cuts. Thats why I think even the small diamonds that JP uses are better quality and value.
