Sharing scope images of 2 identical size stones.

One is a AGS Triple Ideal, G-SI1. The other is a GIA Triple Excellent, E-VS2.

Hi all,

I'm personally looking to propose to my girlf. Are there any recommended jewelers you experts would recommend? I've read the thread briefly and see JP being mentioned a lot, are they still the go-to jeweler?

Also, I have a budget of about 4-5k and am looking to get an emerald cut as that's what my girlf adores. But she might be leaning towards the round cut with each passing day :s13:

What's the most value-for-money based on that budget based on the usual suspects - 4 Cs?

Do pardon my ignorance!

I’m not even sure if JP do emerald. As side stones yes but as a main stone? U gotta ask

Emerald cuts are cheaper but for the savings, u lose it back as u need to go higher color n clarity.
Color n clarity shows up more, as well as light leakage in that cut

I think u were initially after a JP SIC but in a very special caret weight.

Jp didn’t have any and time was running out so they offered u a HOH but u decided to call another stone in to compare ....

What I learned over the past month sourcing for a stone. Most value and safe ... G-VS2. Next check for ideal cut dimension, and finally verify with actual scope images. Then go for the biggest stone your budget allows.

One example of a stone that falls under the above:

Actually initially I was after a Destinee diamond (the only "Ideal Cut" I know :o), then subsequently found out JP SIC is an equivalent but at much better price . Unfortunately (or fortunately =:p) JP SIC does not have the exact caret I need, but only a HOH :(.

Then the search ... :s13:

Thanks for your advice! I'll schedule an appointment with JP just to have a look-see and to find out more. Are the appointments payable in any sense?

I hear you on emerald cut, I too am not a fan of emerald cuts for proposal rings as they seem unconventional but my girl has came out and said she loves those and wants something that is less 'mainstream'. So I'm sorta between a rock and a hard place

Hey guys my Boyfriend surprised me with a JannPaul appointment today! My wax model of the ring is ready and they let me bring it home hehe. It’s so fun haha. But sadly it’ll be the last time I see my diamond before it gets mounted.. so happy and excited for it!

Here are some pics and video :)

Is the bottom one the one you bought from HOH?

Top is the HOH GIA Triple Excellent, E-VS2.
Bottom is the AGS Triple Ideal, G-SI1 that I requested JP to bring in.

The bottom stone has better light performance but 20% cheaper ... :D

JP Proposal Ring

Hi all,

This thread is a great read thanks for all the contributions, just made me realize there's a lot more to take in consideration when looking for a proposal ring.

I've got a budget of 10-12k and would ideally try to find something around 1 carat on cushion emerald or princess cut. The ring itself I'd like to have my girlfriend customise herself after the proposal so it could be unique.

Do you reckon JP should be my first option to find something around those lines? Planning to pop by this week but would like to understand if there's any other things I should have in mind before going there.

Cheers!

Do u know what u want? Do u know what she wants?
Even if your gf can custom the ring, a cushion, emerald n princess are 3 totally different shapes.
Assuming u mean cushion, that’s still an oval vs a square.

Certainly going to a shop n seeing the stone will help u decide ...

Hi all, thanks for all the valuable inputs and have gained knowledge quickly with all the info here. Went to two jeweler and one being JP, eventually deciding to go with it like most here. They have send me the scope images, as with consencus here all JP diamonds are qc’d but would like to still ask for assistance to vet as I see some spots in the aset and ideal scope at 6 o clock area and to ask is that a issue and is there any other I missed.

Yes the girdle is uneven at 6.
Not an issue. Just not as perfect

Thanks Miltah. But do you think it can still be considered an SIC? It seems that 7 and 5 30 o clock seems uneven too or am I mistaken? And for uneven girdle, does it causes less bling.

There is no exact definition for SIC, any brand can consider their stones to be SIC.
But based on JPs past stones, then this is less than their usual standards.

It won’t be less bling. Chances are if u picked an Ideal HOH cut, u might not even see the difference compared to SIC

Thanks for your feedback, I've gone to JP and on the 9-10k range for their Cushion Brellia diamond the highest carat range I can get is 0.88 cts Ideal cut VVS2 G for 10.3k

Does that sound reasonable based on your experience?

The other options around 10k are at 0.83 cts with slighty better color or clarity grading (VVS 1 and E/F) however as I can't really notice any significant difference on those I'm more inclined for a slightly bigger stone.

Other than the uneven girdle, is there anything else that’s less than their usual standard for this stone. I’m biased at looking at more stones and I agree the ideal HOH cut is similar visually and very hard to tell the difference.
