read somewhere that you should try to avoid rounded carat numbers.. like for example a 0.79 would be much cheaper than a 0.80 while they most prob look the same.. i would think a 0.69 F VS1/2 would most probably cost the same as your initial selection?

They do not have anymore available 0.6+ diamonds haha. That's why I have quite a limited choice left. 0.80 should be fine I think because it's in the 0.7-0.89 category.

I'm intending to visit JP next week. My budget is $4000 and able to stretch another $200 if need be. Is it reasonable if these are my requirements?

its possible for a low 0.5x range, definitely not above a 0.6 though.. i once got quoted a 0.51 for 3900.. just let them know your budget you never know what might be available good luck!

Thanks man. For what you are quoted, does it include setting? I was quoted 4000 inclusive of seeing at another private jeweller with 0.62, vs2, f colour. But somehow the expected sparkle in the diamond wasn't there.

Thanks man. For what you are quoted, does it include setting? I was quoted 4000 inclusive of seeing at another private jeweller with 0.62, vs2, f colour. But somehow the expected sparkle in the diamond wasn't there.

nope that was before setting.. i think the sparkles depend alot on how the diamond is cut and all (the one i was quoted for was a super ideal), can go to JP for their education before you go around sourcing at other jewellers.. the price difference between a poorly cut diamond and one that is well-cut can be huge, and if you don't mind a not so ideal diamond i think JP has stocks for those as well!

imo i do not think the ideal cut is worth it.. if you down the color to F, you should most probably be able to get a close-to-0.65 super ideal for that price (or slightly more). it will shine alot better and the color difference wont be obvious anyway

My husband got a ring from SooKee previously and he bought me another ring from JP (after requesting for so long =P). I will say the one from JP is far better than my first one in terms of brightness.

Damn~ the difference is sooo... The contrasted arrows on the Octagon looks really define. Nice.

IMHO, there are still difference visually between a Super Ideal and Ideal Cut. So if I have to choose one between this 2 diamonds, I will still go for the 0.58 E VS2.

This is a once in a lifetime purchase might as well sweeswee get a good one.

Can totally tell which is the blingbling one luh.

If given this choice, I will go for the better cutting. or maybe bigger carat and Super Ideal Cut? since there is a $1,400 difference between the 2 so you may get a bigger diamond for super ideal cut at around that price.

From a girl point of view, I feel that the sparkle is as important as size. Whenever I have dinner with my friend, they will comment on the bling bling of my ring which makes me feel good.

You may get a diamond at a very low price but the quality is not there. And most of the jewellers do not use the most important scope -- aset scope to analyse the diamond.

For me personally, I would rather spend abit more and I feel assured of the quality and know what I am getting to be wore for a long time.

I know what you mean. I had zero knowledge when I met the private jeweller and he didn't even use any scopes to press his case, only showing us the gia certificate to show that it's a triple e diamond. But now i know with the various scopes, there's more than meets the eye..

Jamesallen have some of the scopes but not the most important one which is the ASET scope. The most is that those diamonds are Ideal and not Super Ideal. Jannpaul shows all of the scopes and terms of price are quite comparative. You're getting a better diamond from them after all.

After hearing opinions from some bros here and some friends outside, I probably could make do without a D VVS1 diamond but instead bump up the carat (SO would be happy to hear it). The only concern is that SO has a 7.5 ring size and I'm afraid the diamond may look too big on her.

Below are the other options provided by JP. Which one should be a better choice considering the factors i mentioned? (all are well within my budget)

1) 0.64 D VVS1 $6900 (initial choice)
2) 0.71 E VS1 $7400
3) 0.74 E VVS2 $8350
4) 0.8 F VS1 $9100

AGS has a light performance grading on top of the cut grade. It has more info that the GIA that only grades the cut. That's why the AGS top grade is Ideal and GIA is Excellent only. I prefer the AGS because of this and the certificate looks more impressive Though checking the scopes yourself is still the priority
