I think you are comparing an ideal cut and super ideal cut. So prices will be different. If the arrows are not symmetrical then I doubt it's a super ideal already.

nope, it's not as big a distinction as that. when I say tiny bit asymmetrical, I am casting a very critical eye over it. Most people may not be able to see the difference. I compared apples to apples, which are comparable diamonds from both shops.

Even if you were to classify the WD diamonds as ideal, for which they should be compared against House of Hung's ideal stocks, I saw two 1.02c G VS2 diamonds at House of Hung, which were priced at 11200 and 13200 respectively. 11200 because of slight fluorescence.

I've done my fair share of research and homework :s13:

Larry has the standard EXC x 3 diamonds and their ideal cuts called lazare. Their ideal cuts will be priced higher but they don't use those light scopes to QC. I found JP's super ideal cuts to be cheaper than their ideal cuts. Plus, the quality is assured with the scopes.

Just to add on, lazare diamonds can have a very wide range of quality as well. I recall reading in one of the past posts that someone posted a lazare diamond that got a very high HCA score.

anybody been to poh Kim before? it's a factory located some where near Queenstown??

My friend highly recommended it for the price. Never been there to see yet, but truth be told the prices are very very low. They do not provide scopes to examine the diamonds with, aside from maybe the usual hearts and arrows scope. Have heard that the boss is quite reasonable as well, and can do custom designs for settings because they craft the rings inhouse.

The place is an industrial estate along Lower Delta Road I think. If you are not looking for a perfect cut diamond, it may be one of the cheapest places around. If you have an ASET or Ideal scope and go there when they're less busy (not on weekends) to sift through their stock, who knows, might even be able to find a super good value for money well cut diamond!

I'm sure you've seen this blog review, but posting it anyway for awareness. Written by my JC friend. http://heartlandboy.com/poh-kim-jewellery-offers-the-best-value-for-engagement-ring/

FYI, I ran a HCA calculation for the GIA cert posted there, and the HCA score is 0.7. Well within super ideal range, but the real test is always the ASET scope though.

Hi,

Its a Super Ideal Cut 0.94 E VS2
Paid a total of $12300.
However my price is last year price as i made a deposit and book of this
last year.

Quite a good price for a E colour I must say. Good choice on the 4 prongs to show off more of the diamond!

The prongs are abit big though, not possible to reduce the size of the prongs? Otherwise it's a very classic design, won't go wrong

I'm choosing 6 prongs cos I'm looking at a G to maximise carat weight, then the slight yellow tint won't be as obvious even for colour sensitive people :s13:

Haha yeah! The price has really inflated since last year. I am really lucky that i made the deposit on the diamond last year! Whew!

I was actually leaning towards the 6 prongs design.. But when i was there, the 4 prongs just shows so much more of the diamond and it really looks good!

The prongs size have been reduced. The original ones were really fat and chunky. So i had some modification on the prongs, with more rounded feature and ending with sharp tips.

As usual, JP quality so nothing much to nitpick on. The usual advice applies - if not colour sensitive, can go down to F or G colour and a clean VS2 to maximise carat weight for the budget. If prefer the higher colour grade of E, it's a very nice JP super ideal.

The price is pretty good for the colour and clarity as well IMO (in terms of JP's standard pricing, not comparing to other shops).

6 prong? There is a sample setting that JP has - 4 prong cathedral setting with a tapered knife edge band. That one is very classy IMO. I chose that as the base for my render, with slight modifications to 6 prong and some detailing. Can consider that as an alternative to the tried and tested 6 prong tapered band. The knife edge kinda gives it a more 3D look from the top
